Hello everyone,
I think I said this last week but I cannot believe we are already into week 7!
I’m going to start the Principal’s Report this week with some exciting news! Our grade 1/2 teacher Hayley Saunders has been offered and accepted a role as P.E. teacher at Willowbank PS starting next year. While we are enormously proud of Hayley getting this very sought-after position we recognise the loss we will feel as a staff and school community. Hayley has been such an important part of the MMPS world for a very long time it will take a fair bit to get used to not having her here onsite each day. A massive congrats to you Hayley on this exciting news!
Last Friday the grade 6s held a Car Wash to help raise funds for their grade 6 jackets. The weather was absolutely perfect and helped them all to dry off a little more quickly after some overly enthusiastic washing ‘techniques’!
Last night we held our Parent Information session for our Preparing for Puberty Sex Education program. The information session ran through support for parents in having these important conversations with their children and also covered what the in-class sessions involve. The in-class sessions for grades 3-6 begin next Thursday and run for three weeks.
Next Tuesday and Wednesday we are sending the grade 3s off to camp! All students in grade 3 will be participating in a range of outdoor activities at Boomerang Ranch including, horse riding, archery and hut building. If you have not yet returned your child’s medical form and permission could you please do that this week?
Tomorrow night sees our 2024 Foundation Parent Information Session being held. It is a great night that helps outline some of the important routines and structures that make MMPS a wonderful place to learn. We have a large number of siblings in our 2024 Foundation group but also a large number of new families to our school. This is such an exciting time looking ahead to 2024!
The grade 2/3 were lucky enough to have a special wellbeing session yesterday afternoon when Sarah, our morning yoga provider, came into their classroom to take them for an afternoon yoga session. Sarah was full of praise for the way that the students took on the session and it was great to see their appreciation for practices like yoga grow.
Yesterday was World Kindness Day and the grade 5/6 classroom spent the afternoon writing letters to people living in aged care. The letters will be delivered to recipients at Oaks Nursing Home in Gisborne. The students loved writing about their interests and hobbies and really enjoyed the process of letter writing.
A big thank you to Brad from the Trading Post who kindly donated buckets to be used in our school veggie gardens. The buckets will help each classroom collect brain food scraps that will then go to our new Worm Towers, provided by and maintain by the Quinn Family. Thank you to Flora and Eleanor for speaking to Brad and helping make this happen!
Just a little reminder to make sure everyone is applying sunscreen before school as the days are, thankfully, getting sunnier and warmer. We have sunscreen here at school that we apply at lunchtimes but any extra coverage is helpful!
Many thanks,
Joe.
