Term 2 - Week 6 (28th May, 2026)

Dear St Mary's School Community,

Pupil Free Day

Don’t forget, school is closed tomorrow (29th May) for a Staff Professional Development Day.

National Simultaneous Story Time & Digby Visit

Our Library Monitors led the school in our entertaining story telling activity yesterday under the guidance of Mrs Discenza and Mrs Kermode.

We extend our thanks to Mrs Le Moignan for bringing Digby the Therapy dog to visit us yesterday. Special mention to Bendigo Bank who sponsors Digby which allows such visits to occur.

Please read on to see some photos of the day.

WA Day

For those St Mary’s families travelling away for the long weekend, I wish you all safe travels and thank God for answering our prayers for the rain that is upon us.

But remember, feedback is not always necessarily correct: depends who’s giving it”

National Simultaneous Story Time

On Wednesday the 27th of May we were not only lucky enough to have our annual National Simultaneous Story Time Session led by our wonderful Year Six, but we also had a visit from Maree Le Moignan and Digby, her Story Dog. Maree and Digby visit schools to share stories with students and encourage students who are hesitant to read to find the love in sharing stories and reading. Digby was very popular and very obligingly received all the loved and attention that was thrown his way.

Class News

Year Two/Three

This term has already been jam packed for Year 2/3 so far. We have just had our Mary Help of Christians Mass and are now preparing for our end of Term 2 assembly item. It's going to be a good one!

We have been looking at different elements in action narratives and how to make them more engaging. We have learnt about using onomatopoeia, which we can't quite spell yet, to make some cool sound effects in our story. We have been focusing on chance and probability and have just started exploring how we can show this with both words and fractions.

We have been very lucky for the last couple of weeks with all the exciting things happening. Last week we had an incursion where they put on a great puppet show and then we got to learn how to create our very own! This week we were lucky enough to have National Simultaneous Story-time and a visit from Maree and Digby. They came into our class and read us a story. Now we know that dogs are such good listeners, we will be reading to our fur friends lots!

Win Big. Give Back. Help Build Westonia’s Playground.

Westonia is a small town based in the heart of the wheatbelt, built on mining, young and old farming families and people from all walks of life. This little country town is full of community spirit. In recent years, we have seen a big growth in young children and babies in our shire. Whether they've grown up here or are new to our town, we want to do our best to support them. One way we can do that is by providing a safe area for them to come together with friends and family to play, grow and learn.

We’re holding this fundraiser to help raise funds and support our vision of a brand-new playground that will help our children thrive. For just $100 you could be in the chance to win a brand new 2026 Hilux SR as first prize and a brand new 2026 Polaris Ranger 1000 Premium as second prize.
