ZIG ZAG Public School

Term 1 Week 10 Newsletter

Principals report

It is the last day of a very busy Term One 2025.

This term seems to have been extra busy with lots of different activities completed throughout the term.

I would like to thank our Parents and Grandparents for your support in allowing your children to participate in the activities we have offered this term.

I am very proud of the systems we develop at Zig Zag Public School, which are always aimed at improving the learning and wellbeing for our students.

This term, I am especially proud of all students for their self-control and sportsmanship on the playground.

Our RED CARD system seems to have improved this aspect in our playground.Well Done Girls and Boys.

By the time we arrive back at school in Term 2, our playground will have a lovely new sunshade and the classrooms will have access to 10 new laptops to use.

This is all thanks to our hardworking P & C who work tirelessly to raise funds to provide additional items needed for our students.

Thank you to our P & C and thank you to everyone for supporting their fundraising efforts.

As a final note of thanks, Id like to thank Katrina Phillips and Anthony Curley for coming to our rescue with collecting and returning the portaloo’s on Monday, after a water pipe was damaged.

Thank you. I hope everyone enjoys the school holidays and has a safe and happy Easter long weekend.

Anzac Day is on Friday 25th April ( before school returns) and I would invite as many Zig Zag students to march with me in the 10.30 Lithgow March.

School returns for students on Wednesday 30th April. I look forward to seeing everyone back at school, ready for another term of learning at Zig Zag.

Kind regards

Vicki Gillmore

Health Care Update

A reminder to parents to notify the school about your child’s health.

We welcome information from parents about your child’s health, even if you are not requesting specific support from our school.  Our school asks for medical information when you enrol your child.  It is also important that you let us know if your child’s health care needs have changed or if a new health condition develops.  If you feel that there is a medical condition that we are unaware of at the moment, please contact the school immediately in order for us to update your child’s records accordingly.

This week, we will be sending out forms to those families who have identified that their child has a health condition or requires medication at school for us to update our health care plans and student records prior to migrating to a new computer system next term.  If you do not receive forms to update your child’s health care plan and feel you should have, please contact the school as soon as possible.

Information about allergies, medical conditions such as asthma and diabetes and other health care related issues (anything you think we should be aware of, including prior conditions such as medical procedures in the last 12 months) should be provided to the school by parents.  Please provide this information in writing to the principal.  This will greatly assist our school in planning your child’s health and wellbeing.

Please also remember to notify staff in the school office of any changes to your contact details or of other people nominated as emergency contacts.

We appreciate your assistance in this regard and assure you that any information you provide to the school will be stored securely and will only be used or disclosed in order to support your child’s health needs.

Around the School

P & C Disco

Thank you to our P & C for a fun "End of Term" disco, last night.

Thank you to our Parents for supporting this fundraising event.

Your children looked great in their "Fluoro disco outfits"

Cross Country

Our Cross Country Carnival was blessed with a stunning autumn backdrop—crisp air, golden leaves, and the kind of sunshine that makes you smile. Every student gave their absolute best, with outstanding effort and full-hearted participation from start to finish; full of Zig Zag spirit.

A huge thank you to our super parent helpers.

Congratulations to all the boys and girls who will be competing at the District Cross Country.

Harmony Day

Harmony Week is in full swing at Zig Zag, and we’ve already had some incredible moments of cultural sharing.

This week is all about celebrating inclusivity, respect, and belonging—recognising the rich diversity that makes our community stronger.

Mrs. Mahmoud introduced us to the traditions of Pakistan, giving us a glimpse into her rich cultural heritage.

Joanna and Joseph’s family brought the energy of Papua New Guinea to us with traditional dance, drums, and artefacts, including a shell used for communication.

Halogen Leaders Conference

Our leaders had a wonderful day at the Halogen Leaders conference.

The guest speakers were Emma McKeown,  Anthony "Harries" Carroll, Catherine Laga'aia, Thomas Duncan-Watt.

They all learnt a lot about always doing your best, being a leader and enjoying life.

Wicked Problems

Students in primary have been having a fantastic time engaging in a mini Game Changer challenge during technology lessons.

Working in small groups, they’ve tackled a wicked problem — a tricky, real-world issue with no easy solUnited Nationso the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Each team has brainstormed creative actions which have sparked thoughtful conversations, innovation and teamwork.

We’re so proud of the big thinking and bold ideas which they will continue developing next week.

Performance Fun

My Friends and I” was a fun and engaging show with plenty of laughs, puppets, and audience involvement — but with an important message at its heart.

Students were reminded that bullying is ongoing and repeated behaviour. They learned simple, clear steps: • Ask the person to stop • Walk away • Tell an adult

And to be ready to explain who, what, when, and where it happened. Big messages, bright puppets, and lots of learning through laughter!

Crazy Sock Day

We wore lots of bright and odd socks to celebrate inclusion and raise awareness for World Down Syndrome Day (21st March). This day holds a special place in Zig Zag’s heart.
