Dear families,
We have just completed another fantastic Sports Day, bringing together students, staff and families to celebrate teamwork, healthy competition and fun. Our four house teams: Wirra, Tirntu, Milte and Tarni—competed enthusiastically across a range of activities and events. The day was full of energy, community and wonderful examples of resilience, respect, responsibility and resourcefulness. Through PE and sport, our students build relationships, confidence and motivation to lead active, healthy lives.
A heartfelt thank you to Mr Paul Besanko for leading and organising the day, with outstanding support from Elaine Cram, Nick Marks, Aaron Charlton and Donna Irvine. We also thank the staff who arrived as early as 6:30am to set up help make the day a success. Your commitment is greatly appreciated!
A special thank you to our fundraising coordinator, Laura Sizer, and the incredible parent volunteers who ran the BBQ throughout the day. Your support helped create the strong sense of community that makes Sports Day such a special event.
Congratulations to the winners of this year’s Sports Day Shields:
Sports Day Champions: Milte, with Wirra as Runners Up.
Fair Play Award: Milte, with Tirntu as Runners Up.
Thank you to every student, staff member and community member who participated, attended and supported the day. We look forward to celebrating sports day with our community again next year!
Student Free Day
At our recent student free day, staff participated in Mathematics professional learning with a particular focus on foundational number skills that underpin fluency in mathematics. We focused on building the key skills students need to become confident mathematicians, including number sense, counting, recognising numbers and understanding how numbers work together. Staff explored practical ways to teach addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using hands-on materials, pictures and other visual tools. We also looked at how these early skills connect to multiplication facts and more complex maths as students progress through school. This learning will help us provide consistent and engaging maths experiences for all students.
Building Two Update
I wanted to provide a brief update following my recent letter dated 10 September about the future of Building 2. Last night, our Governing Council met with Ben Temperly, Deputy Chief Executive, Strategy and Corporate Services, and Bill Glasgow, Executive Director, Infrastructure, from the Department for Education. The meeting provided Governing Council with an important opportunity to raise the concerns and questions shared by our school community directly with senior Department representatives. While there is not yet a final resolution regarding Building 2, the department has committed to working closely with our school leadership and Governing Council, with the aim of achieving the best possible outcome for our school community. It was confirmed that the Department has secured the use of the other buildings under a lease arrangement of 5 years, with three further 5-year extensions, totaling to a 20-year lease arrangement. This is really positive news. We will continue to keep you informed as discussions progress and further information on Building 2 becomes available.
It is actually incredible that we are at the end of term 3 already. This term has been a busy and productive one. Hopefully the holidays provide an opportunity for you to rest up, reconnect and restore the energy needed for a busy term 4! I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday break. See you when school recommences on Monday 12th October.
With regards
Matthew Chapman
