We are looking forward to our trivia night this Saturday night! It should be a fun night of games and competitions! A massive thank you to our staff and P&C team for putting the night together!

Mother’s Day:

A big thank you to our P&C for their organisation of the Mother’s Day stall recently! From all I have heard from the students, the mother’s were very impressed with their gifts purchased at the stall. A big thank you to all of the mother’s, grandmothers and carers who came along to our Mother’s Day celebration afternoon! A fabulous time was had by all and the students did a great job of pampering their mums.

Simultaneous Storytime:

This Wednesday we will be hosting National Simultaneous Storytime. Teachers and their students will share in reading an Australian children’s book simultaneously to promote the value of reading and literacy.

Biggest Morning Tea:

Students and staff will host events at school this Thursday to raise funds for the Cancer Council. Year 6 students will also be running a cake stall to show their support.

P&C Disco:

We are looking forward to the P&C disco next Tuesday 28th May. The K – 2 disco will be at 5pm – 6:15pm with the 3 – 6 students dancing up a storm at 6:30pm – 8pm.

Peer Mediators:

Our peer mediators have started assisting students in the playground. They are spending time helping solve small disputes between students. They then debrief with a teacher so they can further develop their skills and get feedback.

Athletics Carnival:

Our athletics carnival will be held on Wednesday of next week at Glendale Sports Centre. Permission notes and payment should be returned by Wednesday 22nd May. Parents are welcome to come along to watch the event. We look forward to seeing you there.

Semester 1 Reports:

Currently, teachers are busy assessing and writing student reports. Reports will be sent home via the Sentral Parent Portal. If you have not set up access to the portal, please do so as soon as possible. If you need assistance in setting up access, please contact the school office for support.

Absences:

A reminder that when providing a reason for a student absence, if it is an appointment, please provide the type of appointment as when we record the absence, different types of appointments require a different absence code to be recorded. If your family are planning a vacation during school time of more than 10 school days, an extended leave application must be submitted prior to the holiday for approval. Please contact the office if you require an extended leave form.

Learning Support:

At Warners Bay Public School, we strive to support every student's learning journey. One way we do this is through intervention groups in English and Math, aimed at providing targeted support to students across all grades (K-6). These groups allow us to create smaller, focused learning environments that limit distractions and increase opportunities for individualised attention, for students in intervention groups, as well as in the classroom with teachers. The focus of these interventions is determined by our school. Executive Staff and Learning Support Team, based on observations, teacher judgement, and standardised testing. It's important to note that intervention does not necessarily indicate any cause for concern; rather, it is a proactive approach to support students in specific areas of their learning or to provide extension support for those who may benefit. If your child is identified for intervention, they will receive a note detailing the program focus and any other necessary information. Please be advised that intervention opportunities are not compulsory, and parents can always opt out if they prefer. If there are any causes for concern, your child's teacher will always contact you to discuss further. Our goal is to ensure that every student receives the support they need to succeed academically and reach their full potential.

Who is our Intervention Team?

Our Intervention Team consists of Assistant Principals working closely with each stage.

These are as follows -

Early Stage 1 - Mrs Parsons

Stage 1 - Mrs Burr

Stage 2 - Ms Hamilton

Stage 3 - Ms Patrick

SHINE - IEPs supported by Ms Ward and team

The team are also supported by our school’s wonderful SLSO’s and our APCI, Mrs Simmons. This team consists of highly experienced teachers and support staff who have worked extensively across K-6 and in diverse educational settings. Each team member works closely with class teachers and parents, allowing us to provide targeted support tailored to individual student needs. Whether it's in English or Math, our team is committed to ensuring that every student receives the support they need to succeed.

NR AEGG News

On Friday, the Wonai group met with Mrs Parsons to discuss their initiatives for 2024. The group has decided to hold an afternoon tea to acknowledge Reconciliation Week. More information will be coming soon!

The team is also working on a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Reconciliation Australia’s RAP Framework provides schools with a structured approach to advance reconciliation. The students and community members will look at areas to improve reconciliation and embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and culture across WBPS. The students have had some exciting ideas and we will share these with community at our afternoon tea event.

Australian Early Development Census (AEDC)

The Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) is a nationwide census of early childhood development. The census provides a snapshot of children’s development from 0 through to 5 years of age within each community.

A child’s earliest experiences have lifelong effect. These early years are crucial in shaping the adults they will become.

The Australian Early Development Census helps schools, communities and governments pinpoint and tailor services and support to help young children and their families.

Children do not need to do anything to be included in the census and will attend class as usual. During the census, teachers record information based on their knowledge and observations of each child in their class.

Data from the collection is compiled and made available publicly. This data does not include any children’s names, ages, addresses or schools. The system used by the AEDC to collect and collate the information is a secure site and children’s information is kept secure at all times. Mrs Parsons will be inputting data over the coming weeks. Please read the attached fact sheet for more information.

Kinder Transition for 2025

It is that time of year again when we begin our transition program for our entering kindergarten students. WBPS has a comprehensive transition to school program that encompasses parent information sessions, weekly Kinder Club (playgroup), preschool and daycare visits, external provider expo and our formal orientation sessions.

We are currently taking enrolments and expressions of interest for 2025 (out of zone enrolments are currently welcome). If you have a child looking to start in 2025, or know of someone who does, please call the school to put their name on our mailing list. That way, you will get all of the important information regarding transition. If you have any questions about your child starting school, please call or email the school and Mrs Parsons will be able to support. Please remember, no question or query is too small. Starting school can be a big thing for little people and for parents, and our aim is to make it as smooth and supportive as possible.

A parent information evening will be held later this term in the lead-up to Kinder Club playgroup starting in Term 3. Keep an eye on your emails and our website for more information coming soon.

Library News

Overdue Library Books

A reminder that many students have overdue library books. Please help your child in finding the overdue book(s) so they can continue to borrow from our library.

Author Visit

We are very excited to have the amazing author and illustrator, Sami Bayly, visiting in Term 3 on Thursday 1st August. She will run a series of workshops for all students (K-6) throughout the day. More information will be sent home to families in the coming weeks.

Book Parade/Grandparents Day/Education Week

Our combined celebration will be on Friday 16th August (Term 3 Week 4). Information will be shared as we get closer to the day, but we are hoping to have our family picnic with students followed by the book parade. This year’s theme is Reading is Magic, but like other years, the aim of the parade is for everyone to be involved and have fun. It isn’t a competition for the fanciest costume – we just want to see students embrace the joy of reading and come dressed as someone they like!

Primary Ethics

Primary Ethics has made a great start this year at Warners Bay Public School. With a few new volunteers, and our favourites returning, we are lucky enough to have almost all year groups accessing this wonderful program. Ethics classes include scenarios, poems and stories, group work and activities to encourage the children to think about what they could do in different situations, and about how circumstances might make a difference.

Children discuss topic such as:

- imagining how others feel

- how do we treat living things?

- what is laziness?

- how do we disagree in a respectful way?

- fairness

The Primary Ethics curriculum aims to help children develop a life-long capacity to make well-reasoned decisions on ethical issues. We hope students will become informed and inquiring adults with the ability to recognise ethical issues and explore them with others in a considered, productive and respectful way.

More volunteers needed!

We would love another volunteer for the Year 1 cohort who are not yet receiving ethics lessons. Ethics classes can be taught by parents, carers, grandparents or members of the community, and we are always on the lookout for more volunteers! Currently classes run once a month on Wednesdays at 2-2:55pm. Please contact our Ethics coordinator Phoebe Jennings (jennings.phoebe@gmail.com) or visit the Primary Ethics website for more information (https://primaryethics.com.au/).

If you are interested in enrolling your child in ethics classes, please contact the school office.

As always, a huge thank you to our amazing Ethics teachers!
