Rozelle Public School Newsletter

TERM ONE WEEK FIVE

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Rozelle is a place where Aboriginal children learned, played and celebrated their culture for thousands of years on this beautiful, natural land. As we learn, play and celebrate together on this land, we honour the Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay our respects to elders both past, present and emerging.

SCRIPTURE COMMENCES NEXT WEEK

Next week, we will begin our scripture and ethics classes, which will take place on Thursday afternoons. These classes are facilitated by volunteers from Catholic and Anglican churches as well as from the Primary Ethics program. Students will attend the class assigned to them based on the preferences indicated by their parents. If you would like to request a change in your child's class, please submit a written request to the school.

CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY

Today, our Green Team organised Clean Up RPS Day in support of the annual Clean Up Australia Day initiative. We were delighted to welcome Channel 10 reporter Daniel Doody and Pip Kiernan, the daughter of Ian, the founder of Clean Up. The Green Team spent the afternoon with Daniel and Pip, filming a segment for the news bulletin. We look forward to sharing the footage with the school at our next assembly.

WEARING SCHOOL UNIFORM

With the school year now in full swing, I would like to emphasise the importance of wearing a school uniform.

Our school uniform not only promotes a sense of unity and pride among our students, but it also creates a welcoming and inclusive environment. When students wear their uniforms, they are instantly recognised as part of our vibrant school community, fostering camaraderie and school spirit.

We kindly ask for your support in ensuring that your child comes to school dressed in the appropriate uniform. If there are any concerns regarding uniform requirements or if you need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in reinforcing our school values.

WELCOME BBQ

Next Friday is the annual Welcome BBQ hosted by our P&C. This event marks the beginning of several community gatherings planned by the P&C and is a wonderful chance to connect with other families from RPS. We look forward to seeing you there!

SCOOTERS & BIKES IN PLAYGROUND

To minimise the risk of accidents and injuries, we kindly ask that students (and visitors) refrain from riding scooters and bikes in the playground during morning drop off and afternoon pick up periods. Thank you for your understanding.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL

I would like to extend a special thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of our recent swimming carnival. Despite the weather, the event showcased a fantastic display of talent, sportsmanship, and community spirit.

It was wonderful to see our dedicated staff and parent volunteers working together to ensure the smooth running of the carnival. Your efforts made a significant difference in creating a positive experience for all swimmers.

Congratulations to all students who participated, and best of luck to those who will go on to represent Rozelle at next week’s Balmain Zone Swimming Carnival. We are proud of your achievements!

NAPLAN

NAPLAN 2025 - INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

The NAPLAN assessment period for Year 3 & Year 5 students will begin on Wednesday 12 March and will end on Monday 24 March. NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills your child is already learning at school. Teachers will ensure students are familiar with the format of the tests and it is important to remember that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing, but about assessing learning progress.

The best approach for preparing your child for NAPLAN is to encourage your child to do the best they can on the day. Please ensure your child is well prepared by having a calm approach and expecting the best results, having a good breakfast each morning to sustain them for the first session of the day and ensuring they arrive with plenty of time on the morning of their scheduled assessments so there is no rush and they are organised. Below is our proposed test schedule which is subject to change. If for any reason your child misses a test on the scheduled day, please know that there are days scheduled for NAPLAN catch up.

The class is focused on making music fun!  It also provides a springboard to play in the RPS band by encouraging them to learn to play as a group. SHAKE UP FOR THE CLASS WHATSAPP

Shake-up for the Class Whatsapp’s

What’s the WhatsApp Community?

Think of it as our school’s central hub:

Quick and Easy Updates: The P&C will use the main announcements group to share important school-wide news, so you won’t miss a thing and there will be less of a burden on Class Reps.

● Your Class, Your Space: Each class will have its own private group within the Community. You’ll still have your usual space for class-specific chats and updates, but now everything is nicely linked together. The P&C and school admins will not be able to see what goes on in there.

Privacy? Don’t Worry!

● The P&C will manage the Community but won’t have access to any private class group conversations—those remain yours to enjoy.

How to Join the Community

It’s super easy!

1. Just click the link below to join the School WhatsApp Community.

2. Find your child's Class Group and click through to join. LINK: https://chat.whatsapp.com/IO9FrVFTJjg7y2dlA4cojC

This is a great step toward making communication smoother and more streamlined for all of us—no more chasing updates or missed messages. We can’t wait to see you there!

NUT AWARE
A number of students at Rozelle have been diagnosed with a life-threatening allergy to nuts. While it is not advised for the school to declare itself “nut-free” we are definitely a “nut-aware” school. This means that we ask parents/carers to carefully consider the food they provide for their child and avoid foods that contain nuts. Before sending in food for special occasions for your child’s class, please check with the teacher. The school appreciates everyone’s effort in keeping all our students safe and supporting their families to manage this difficult situation.
