TERM 1 WEEK 8 -22 MARCH 2024

Principal

This week we celebrated Harmony Day. The Orange Mufti Day and Disco were highlights and a wonderful reminder of the joy we can share together. Harmony describes a situation in which people are peaceful. Each day at Moruya Public School we strive for a school environment that is harmonious. We celebrate our differences and the unique experiences that we all bring to our school environment. We explicitly teach students to be honest, kind and respectful to ensure that Moruya Public School is a welcoming and happy place for everyone.

Next Thursday we will hold our Easter Hat Parade before the Easter Long Weekend. Students in K-2 are invited to join in the hat parade. Other students in years 3-6 will enjoy watching the parade and then everyone is invited for a picnic. We hope to see many families in attendance. This year the Easter Long Weekend falls outside of school holidays from 29 March to April 1. Students will resume school on Tuesday 2 April until Friday 12 April when the school Holidays begin. We hope that you have a lovely Easter weekend with your families.

Our school Cross Country Carnival will be held on Tuesday 9 April. Families are welcome to attend.

At the end of Term 4 there are two Staff Development Days for professional learning. This year we will be varying one of these days to enable staff to complete CPR training. In lieu of this day, staff will attend two extended staff meetings from 3-6 pm throughout the year with the first occurring on Tuesday 2 April.

School attendance for all children is important to support their emotional, social and academic development. Every day matters and it is important that your child's attendance is regular. The Department of Education have a range of resources to support school attendance. They can be found on the following website https://education.nsw.gov.au/schooling/parents-and-carers/going-to-school/school-attendance-information-for-parents

Looking forward to seeing many families at our Easter Hat Parade.

Deputy Principal

We all recognise that it takes a village to raise a child.  What we often forget is that schools rely heavily on this same village to operate.  Every day in school life, Moruya Public School depends on the generosity of our volunteers.

Kitchen Garden on Thursdays have a regular group that volunteer their time, including students from Moruya High School who assist our students to work in the garden and prepare delicious healthy food.  These volunteers work alongside Tobie and Tim in equipping our students with essential life skills.

First thing in the morning, the fabulous volunteers running Breakfast Club ensure our students start the day with toast, cereal and/or a glass of milk.  They are here at school well before 8.00 am, collecting the food from the office and preparing everything for the arrival of hungry students.

Scripture groups run on Tuesdays and these volunteers’ run sessions for groups of students throughout the day. Some of our community members volunteer in literacy programs and can be seen in classrooms across the school listening to our students read.

Our canteen would also not operate without the assistance of the volunteers who donate their time to ensure a steady supply of food is available through the day.  If you would like to join our volunteers in ensuring our school is able to support our students so that they can be the best version of themselves, please let us know by contacting the Front Office.

Max has been selected for the Far South Coast Zone Team and will be trialing for the Boys South Coast Soccer team in April. Good luck Max.

Regional Swimming update

In week 7 Jessie H from Year 6 progressed to the South Coast Swimming Championships at Dapto in Junior Girls Butterfly. She swam a personal best and improved greatly on her District performance at the more challenging Regional level. Great job Jessie.

We would like to thank all MPS families for supporting our students in extending their competitive sporting experience both at school and in competition.

OUR P&C NEED YOUR HELP!!!!

Volunteering is an extremely important part of this school and enables your child to have access to fun events, extra recreational activities , technology and sporting equipment and keeps costs down in the canteen and uniform shop. Without dedicated and helpful volunteers, none of this is possible. In case you didn’t know:

   - Our entire Breakfast Club program is run by volunteers

   - The uniform shop needs volunteers to operate, and is currently only open on Wednesday for 2 hours.

   - Kitchen Garden needs volunteers on Thursday to help in both the Garden and Kitchen.

   - The canteen needs volunteers every day to operate and are desperate for help on Wednesdays and Fridays.

   - Events need volunteers to run such as Movie nights, Disco's, Mothers Day and Fathers Day Stalls.

Volunteering Tips

Your children love it when you volunteer and they get to see you at school.

Grandparents/Relatives are welcome to volunteer too

You can volunteer as little or as much time as you can spare

You can volunteer with your friends

Nothing is hard, you will be shown what to do

You don’t need to be a P&C member

To keep our children safe, some volunteer opportunities require a Working With Children Check, which is a simple form and it doesn’t cost anything, please check with the office if this would be a requirement.

Moving into Year 7 in a NSW Government School in 2025

The NSW Department of Education has digitised the Year 6 into Year 7 transition process into the a NSW Government High School. Parents and carers should go online to complete the Expression of Interest  (EOI) into a NSW Government High School or Placement Not Required (PNR) at a NSW Government High School. This allows the process to be managed by our school within the Online Enrolment System. Please see the link below to complete your child's EOI or PNR. This link is open from 6 March 2024 and will close on Thursday 4 April 2024.

If you are experiencing difficulties in completing this online process please contact our school on 44742363 before Thursday 28 March 2024.
