Newsletter 1 May 2026

Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome to our first newsletter for Term 2. We have had a very smooth and settled start to the school term. As I am conducting my daily class visits, I am seeing classes engaged in their learning and focused on improving their learning outcomes. I am so excited about the term ahead of us. Just a reminder that this weekend is a long weekend due to Labour Day on Monday 4th May.

Behaviour Focus for Week 3 & 4

Communicate problems appropriately.

Please talk to your child about our behaviour focus for this fortnight and discuss ways in which they can enact the desired behaviours listed below. Having this message reinforced at home will help students realise that we are all working together to ensure they are being the very best they can be.

Anzac Assembly

Thank you all for a wonderful ANZAC Assembly on Friday morning. Our students were very respectful throughout the ceremony. Our student leaders did a wonderful job in running the ceremony. Thank you also to our sound and lighting crew and Miss Tania for a very polished ceremony.

ANZAC Student Ceremony at ANZAC Square

Our 2 School Captains and 2 School Vice Captains attended a special Student ANZAC Commemoration Ceremony with Mr Bowden on Thursday, at ANZAC Square in Brisbane. Our Student Leaders were wonderful ambassadors for our school.

Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Survey

In weeks 3-4, students in Years 4-6 will be asked to take part in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey.

We know that wellbeing and engagement are important parts of your child’s life at school. The QEW Survey is designed to measure how students view their wellbeing and engagement across different topics. The information we get from the survey helps us better understand and support our students.

Does your child have to participate?

Participation in the survey is voluntary. Choosing not to participate will not affect your child’s education in any way.

Your child will also be asked if they would like to participate before starting the survey. They will be free to stop or withdraw at any time.

If you do not wish for your child to participate in the QEW Survey, please contact your school and inform your child.

An information letter will be sent out to parents and carers this week.

If you have any questions, please contact the school. More information, including FAQs, can be found on the Education website: (https://qed.qld.gov.au/publications/reports/statistics/schooling/students/queensland engagement-wellbeing-survey).

Class Newsletters

Class Newsletters will be emailed home to Parents/Carers this week.

Autism Awareness Day

On Wednesday 29th 2026, we celebrated World Autism Awareness Day.

World Autism Awareness Day promotes the rights and acceptance of autistic individuals in our community. It highlights dignity, neurodiversity, and the moving from awareness to understanding to ensure their equal participation in society.

To promote this awareness, students, in their classes, talked about and watched clips about ‘Autism’. Students also helped to create a display for the front of the school with our theme ‘Butterflies’.

Students wore blue or blue accessories and got a free blue icy cup (made by Student council members Spencer, Rose and Amalya) at the end of the day.

Student Services

At Beerwah, the Student Services team meets every second week to discuss how best to support our students’ learning and support needs.  Sometimes students’ needs are identified on enrolment or through our moderation process and other times individual student needs are identified by teachers.

Classroom teachers may discuss student needs with parents and carers and if necessary a referral will be made to the Student Services team.  If this is necessary, a green permission form will be sent home, explaining the process and we encourage you to complete the questionnaire on the rear of the form to help us to understand the needs of your student more clearly.

Our team are currently running an intervention program focussing on supporting students requiring additional support in the areas of phonemic awareness and phonics.
