Principal’s Report

Miss Gauld

Staffing

Mrs Chant will be on leave until 26th February 2024, during this time I will be the principal.  Mrs O’Brien will be the Deputy Principal until the end of this year.

We are currently finalising staffing and classes for 2024. If your child/ren is not returning to Beaudesert State School in 2024, alternatively if you know of people who are looking at enrolling their child/ren here, that are in catchment, can you please contact the office on 5540 1111. This will help teachers put students in the best class for them and the leadership team to ensure our staffing is accurate to minimise changes in 2024.

Volunteers

Thank you to all the volunteers who have helped this year whether it be in classrooms, in the tuckshop or supporting the P&C with their fundraising events. If you are wanting to help before the school year finishes, the tuckshop is always looking for helpers. If we don’t have the helpers then the tuckshop may not be able to open.

The P&C have asked for helpers for the Christmas Concert that will be held on Tuesday 5/12.  Jobs could include setting up/packing up, help selling snacks etc.

Student Safety

Unfortunately, we have had a few incidents of parents/carers parking in the Beaudesert State School staff car park. Even if employed by other state schools you should not be parking in this area. It can be unsafe for students to be in the car park as cars are coming and going. I’d hate for an accident to happen where your child could get hurt. Please park in the designated parent parking areas, these are:

-Tina St

-Eaglesfield St

-Ecole St

-Parent car park on Arthur St

There have also been parents parking in the bus zone which is putting not only yourself and your children at risk but bus students as well. I’d hate to see an accident out the front of the school because a bus has hit your car that is parked in the bus zone.

Please be mindful of the speed limit in school zones. It is 40km/hr during the posted times. There have been reports of cars speeding through these zones especially on Eaglesfield St.

I’d like for all students to be safe not only at school but also coming to and from school. Speeding, parking in bus zones and parking in unsafe areas puts your child at risk.

Social Media

At Beaudesert State School we take our responsibility to maintain the health and safety of our students and staff very seriously.  This responsibility includes issues related to online choices and behaviours.

Participating in the online environment can be a positive experience, but there are also a broad range of concerns that may need to be considered, including online privacy and information protection, online etiquette, digital citizenship and knowing how to get help to deal with online issues.

As you may be aware, comments posted online about people and organisations may impact permanently on their digital reputation. This includes teachers, other staff, students and the school. There can be very real negative consequences from online posts – relationships between school staff, students and parents can be permanently damaged.

Facebook and other social networking sites are generally not private communities and, depending on an individual’s privacy and security settings, comments may be read by many people and remain online indefinitely.

If you or your child are posting information online about the school, staff or students, I ask that you consider the ramifications of these comments on the school and any individuals in the school community. As a rule of thumb:

·         Public discussion is most effective when it is conducted in a polite and respectful manner;

·         Before posting, it is important to consider whether those people you are posting about want information, including photos and comments regarding them and their children, posted on Facebook or on other sites. Perhaps ask the people involved in the post for permission before you publish something or tag someone online;

·         Rather than airing complaints or grievances in a public forum like Facebook, come and talk to the school first about how to resolve your concerns;

·         Remember that as a parent you have a responsibility to supervise and regulate your own children’s online activities at home and their impact on the reputation and privacy of others.

For further information on managing cybersafety, please go to https://behaviour.education.qld.gov.au/resources-publications/Documents/cyberbullying-parents-caregivers-guide.pdf

If you have any concerns and would like to discuss further I invite you to make an appointment with me.

Holidays

Thank you all for a great year and look forward to working with you and your children in 2024. Have a safe and happy holiday.

Senior School Classroom Reports

Year 3

We can’t believe how this term has flown! As always, Term 4 has been extremely busy and we are now in the stages of finishing our final pieces of assessment for Year 3! In English, students have just finished writing their poetry assessments and have presented them to the class. The students have done a fabulous job and we are astounded to see students’ individual growth in writing over the course of the year.

In Mathematics, students have been learning about many different topics such as 3D shape, angles and symmetry. In particular, students have really enjoyed working on their multiplication facts and worded problems.

In Science, the year 3’s have been learning about heat and taking this knowledge to participate in an scientific investigation where students made an oven to melt chocolate to create S’mores. This was such a fun (and delicious) unit! We are sure you heard all about this one!

We loved celebrating and displaying the amazing artwork created by Year 3 at the Arts Night. In Art students have also been creating their Tiny Worlds and responding to artwork by other artists.

As we head into the final weeks of Year 3, we begin to get ready for the Christmas Concert. We hope to see many of you there as we perform together as a cohort.

Thank you for a great year,

Year 3 Teachers

Year 4

Wow! Congratulations to our amazing Year 4 students who have completed a huge Term, Semester and Year!

4A and 4B have thoroughly enjoyed exploring cereal boxes and their persuasive devices. In Mathematics we have multiplied and divided our little hearts out, and looked at fractions here there and everywhere, number lines and all. Science this term gave the students (not Miss Wood) the pleasure of investigating meal worms as part of our unit looking at life cycles and food chains. Thanks again to Mr P for your help there. We mapped everything from ourselves, to Australia, to the world in HASS. The real icing on the cake this term has been completing our Media assessments and creating a Stop Motion AD for a cereal box. You can check out some of our ads by following the following link https://youtu.be/kHDsfl6N9YY

We were thrilled to then end the term on a high note with our annual swimming carnival. Talk about making a splash…

Miss Wood, Mrs Williams, and Miss Iselin would like to wish the Year 4 students all the best of luck as they prepare for Year 5 next year.

GOODLUCK!

Year 5

Another term is nearly over for our Year 5 students. They have worked hard all year and are busily completing their assessments. In Mathematics they were learning about budgeting, division and time. The students enjoyed organising class parties and what they would spend money on if they were king for a day.

In English students were learning how to take the plot of a poem and turn it into an interesting story to share with the class. The story was based on pranking a babysitter and the Year 5 teachers are glad they don’t have to babysit their classes, some of the pranks were very amusing but also a little bit mean.

In HASS this term, students were learning about Democracy and the values around our laws and rules. This has lead to some very important discussions heading into Leadership in Year 6.

For Science the students learned how different plants and animals adapt to survive in their environments. They then used this knowledge to create a new species to suit an unknown environment.

Overall the Year 5 students have enjoyed their learning experiences in Term 4, but they are most anxiously awaiting news of their leadership roles for Year 6. We wish them luck!

Year 6

As the year comes to a close, Mrs Wellnitz, Mrs Morgan and I would like to express our thanks and appreciation to our soon to be graduating students. While some days we felt it was easier to pull teeth, and no doubt we have some more grey hairs (distinguished apparently!), we sincerely have had some amazing moments and laughter! Here are some photos of their last Beaudesert Primary School swimming carnival, as well as a few other memorable times. We wish you all the best as you head onto the next chapter of your lives. Remember to always give your best, be kind and put on clean underwear when you leave the house! Take care!

Year 6 Social

On the 21st of November, the year sixes had one of the most memorable nights to finish off and celebrate our primary schooling years. When we arrived all of the girls looked stunning and the boys handsome. The parents were taking lots of photos, then we all relocated to the hall. The hall was beautifully decorated and most of us headed to the balloon arch to take some more photos. When we got to our tables, we saw our names on a very elegant name tags made by our cherished TA Mrs Johnston. For dinner we had two options chicken wrapped with bacon and veg or beef roast with mash and broccoli cooked by Jason Argue. It was delicious. We had a Magician come and preform his tricks, and showed us how to make balloon animals and props, he picked on Miss Gauld as it was her birthday, it was so funny. For dessert we got to eat our maroon and yellow decorated cupcakes. After the show and dinner, we helped pack up. Then we got to have a disco and free dance before the parents came to collect us. We truly thank all of the staff for organising and coming to our social and celebrating with the year sixes and making our night special!

Lost Property

As always, we have a mountain of lost property piling up at school. A lot of it is unnamed which makes it extremely hard to get it returned to the rightful owner. If your student has lost any items direct them to the lost property bins which are located under A Block Administration Building, or you're welcome to pop in for a look yourselves. Please check there if your children are missing any of their belongings.

PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL BELONGINGS ARE CLEARLY LABELLED!

What's been happening at KindyLinQ in 2023

Our Beaudesert State School KindyLinQ families have had a wonderful, fun filled and action packed couple of terms. As well as our usual indoor and outdoor activities, singing songs, telling stories, creating beautiful artwork and dancing, we have visited local Kindergartens and Nursing Homes, had talks and books read to us from a Fireman, Vet, First Five Forever, our School Chappy, Psychologist and Speech Therapist. The excitement is not over yet, as we have our multicultural and healthy mouth days still to come.

For any families that would like to join us, you are most welcome to just turn up, on Thursday mornings from 9 -12 in R block. KindyLinQ is a free play based program that families can attend in the early years before their children start Kindergarten.  Most suitable for 3 year olds but other age groups are welcome. Morning tea is provided, and KindyLinQ is run by a qualified teacher and early years support co-ordinator.

The SkoolBag app is the easiest way keep up with school events, last minutes notices, newsletters and all school communications.

Chappy Corner

Well, that’s nearly a wrap! Hard to believe 2023 is almost over. Christmas as you may know by now, happens to be my most favourite time of the year! I am going through withdrawals at the moment as I still do not have my Christmas tree up (something unusual for me by now, but don’t worry, I am hoping this coming weekend will see all my family home and have the opportunity of putting up the tree together). I truly love this season, celebrating Jesus’ birth, the beautiful fairy lights and time spent with my loved ones. One of our daughters just got back from the UK and while the idea of a white Christmas is quite appealing (especially on some of these super hot summer days!), I do love the fact that our longest holiday break is over the Christmas holidays. The lead up to the end of the term may be crazy busy, but it is so nice to then have some slower days, catching up with people and just enjoying the holiday season. I hope that each of you can take some time during the holidays to enjoy being with family and friends.

As we finish up the year, I would love to encourage you to consider donating any good condition second hand uniforms that you may not need for next year. You can bring them up to the Chappy room on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, or otherwise drop them up to the office. These second hand uniforms are so helpful to families. Likewise, if you need second hand uniforms, please feel free to pop in some time to see what we have available.

Thank you for all of your support this year. It has been a great year with another very successful colour run. Have a wonderful Christmas break and I look forward to supporting our school community next year. Merry Christmas 😊 Chappy Jade

Sports Update

It has been a massive year of school sport! We have had a Cross Country, Lap-a-thon, Sports Day, Junior Sports Day, Swimming Carnival, and Kingfisher Cup. We have also had countless Beaudesert Zone trials, Pacific District trials and South Coast trials. For every student who participated in these events, I would just like to say thank you. Your hard work, effort and behaviour, make it all worth it!

Please make sure you have a safe and fun-filled holiday. I am already looking forward to next year and the achievements our wonderful students will attain.

Thank you.

Digital Technologies

We are thrilled to share some exciting news from our Year 3 to 6 students who have recently embarked on a virtual journey to the magical land of Orlando! In this unique and innovative project, our young explorers had the opportunity to choose from a variety of theme parks and places of interest.

Our students delved into the enchanting world of Orlando through the lens of their imagination, using digital tools to embark on a virtual adventure that was as close to the real thing as possible. The aim was to not only learn about geography and culture but to foster creativity and teamwork as well. The students could choose any theme park or place of interest, from the iconic Magic Kingdom to the thrilling Universal Studios.

The creativity of our students knew no bounds, as they virtually explored a diverse range of attractions. From the iconic Cinderella Castle in Magic Kingdom to the adventurous rides in Universal Studios, each blog post was a unique window into the exciting escapades of our young travellers. Some students chose to visit the mysterious Hogwarts Castle in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, while others experienced the thrills of Space Mountain in Tomorrowland.

The heart of their virtual trip was experiencing the thrilling rides and attractions. Through virtual reality and Google Earth, our students "rode" roller coasters, explored fantastical worlds, and even had virtual encounters with their favourite characters. The excitement and joy were palpable in their writing as they shared the highlights of each day's adventures.

One of the most exciting aspects of this project was the interactive element. Each student not only created their own blog post but also had the opportunity to engage with their classmates' experiences. The class blog became a virtual hub of discussions, comments, and shared enthusiasm. This collaborative effort not only strengthened their writing skills but also fostered a sense of community and shared joy.
