Principal's Report

Dear JPS Community,

What a big week it has been at Jamberoo Public School as we approach the end of the year. Next week is by far our biggest!

Reports

At the end of last week, staff finalised their Semester Two reports at principal level. Student reports will be distributed electronically to families next week.

SEP and 2026 Focus Areas

On Wednesday, our executive team engaged in our School Excellence Plan planning day. This important work enabled us to complete outstanding items for 2025 and begin shaping our whole-school priorities for 2026. Next year, our focus will be on explicit teaching, strengthened HPAG opportunities within classrooms and a commitment to differentiated learning to support every student’s growth.

Executive staff also completed their final PDP meetings for the year, reflecting on their leadership, achievements and contributions throughout 2025.

2025 Leaders

On Thursday, we celebrated our 2025 student leaders with a special hot chippie lunch in the library. SRC members, Captains and Vice-Captains, Technology Team members, Library Monitors and House Captains joined Mrs Green for a well-deserved thank you for the dedication, enthusiasm and service they have shown our school community throughout the year. Their leadership has been thoughtful, dependable and deeply appreciated.

Presentation Day

Today, we held our Presentation Day Assembly, led by Mrs Behl-Shanks. It was a positive and uplifting morning where we paused to celebrate learning, achievement and growth across our school community. We congratulated our Year 6 students for their accomplishments across their seven years of primary school, acknowledged our Kindergarten students as they marked their first year of schooling and thanked our 2025 Captains and Vice-Captains. We also proudly inducted our 2026 student leaders and celebrated academic achievement and citizenship across K–6, with several special Stage 3 awards presented. It was a fitting way to bring our community together as we near the close of the year.

Thank you to every family member who attended this morning. We also extend our appreciation to the kind parents and staff who assisted in clearing drains during and after the assembly, following the heavy rain and minor flooding.

P&C 2026 Funding Support

The P&C has generously offered to provide the same level of financial support in 2026 as it did in 2025. This funding will enable us to continue offering Music and Indonesian with Mrs McCormack for one day each week across two terms, maintain Drama with Mrs Behl-Shanks and purchase class sets of instruments to further strengthen our music program.

This year, we trialled a more structured music approach. In 2026, we aim to find the ideal balance between expressive and creative musical experiences and explicit instruction, supported by Mrs McCormack’s expertise. Our Dharawal language program has also been an important feature this year, and we will again seek student voice in 2026 to determine whether it continues into 2027.

The Week In View

Tour de Cure Visit

Earlier this term, Jamberoo Public School was thrilled to welcome the Tour de Cure team as part of their 2025 Can4Cancer Tour. Our students participated in the inspiring “Be Fit, Be Healthy, Be Happy” presentation, delivered by the riders and support crew. Their message about maintaining healthy lifestyle habits was engaging and uplifting, and our students clearly enjoyed the visit.

Tour de Cure expressed their gratitude to our school community for the warm welcome and shared that school visits are always a highlight of their tour. They have also passed on a collection of photos from the day, which we look forward to sharing with families.

We extend our thanks to the Tour de Cure team for their time, energy and positivity, and for encouraging our students to lead active, healthy and happy lives.

Please see their photos from the day.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL 2026

All parents with students in Year 2 - 5 and those Year 1 students turning 8 in 2026 will have received a Swimming Carnival note on School Bytes last week. As we are holding our carnival in the first week back for students next year, it is very important that all forms are completed this year. We ask that you encourage you child to attend, with novelty events and a 25m swim included in the program for those students that are not particularly strong swimmers.

Please complete the form no later than Monday 15 December, to enable Mrs Behl-Shanks time to organise entries before the end of term. Thank you.

Garden Club

We wrapped up our gardening year with our final session this week. Thank you to Years 1 and 2 students who came to help. We harvested the last of our garlic this week. Students enjoyed plaiting up groups of three garlic bulbs, ready for drying. You might like to buy some garlic which we will be selling at assembly early next year, once they are sufficiently dried.

Students also helped 'put the garden beds to sleep' by laying comfrey on them and covering with lucerne hay.

It's been a great year in the garden. Looking forward to more adventures next year

Class Spotlight

Nanga Mai

Nanga Mai have had a fantastic week!

We wrapped up our maths unit on 3D objects, with students confidently naming, sorting and describing cubes, cones, cylinders and more. With the end of the year fast approaching, we also began some fun Christmas activities, which the class have absolutely loved.

A definite highlight this week has been playing Kahoot — the room has been full of laughter and friendly competition!

We’re also getting excited for the upcoming Colour Run and the students are already buzzing about the fun week ahead.

Grow Your Mind

Thank you, Alice Peel!

A big thank you to Alice Peel and everyone at Grow Your Mind, who gifted us a class set of the Grow Your Mind book, How to be a Good Enough Kid, this week! Thank you Alice! We are looking forward to using this resource in Term 1, 2026 in classrooms.

Library

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we head towards the end of the year, we are asking families to please have a quick look at home for any outstanding library books that may still be borrowed.

If you find any JPS library books, please return them to school as soon as possible so we can finalise our end-of-year stocktake.

Thank you for your support in helping us keep our library collection up to date!

Mrs Green

Library Lunchtime Opening a Wonderful Success

Opening the library on Wednesdays and Thursdays during lunchtime has proven to be a fantastic success for our students. What began as a trial to provide an alternative play option has quickly become a valued part of our weekly routine.

The library offers a calm, welcoming space where students can enjoy a quieter lunchtime twice a week. Many children choose to spend their break engaging in a range of peaceful activities such as reading, drawing, board games, construction play, creative activities, or simply relaxing with friends in a comfortable environment.

Teachers have noticed that students appreciate having a place to unwind, especially those who find the playground overwhelming or who enjoy quieter, more focused play. The variety of activities available encourages imagination, cooperation, and social skills, all while fostering a love of learning and creativity.

The positive response from students has shown how important it is to offer diverse lunchtime options that cater to different needs and interests. We look forward to continuing the lunch time quiet play sessions and exploring new ways to keep this space inviting, inclusive, and engaging for all.

Term 4 Library Reward – Borrow and Win!

This term, our library has a special reward program to celebrate all our enthusiastic readers! Every time a student borrows a book, they will receive a ticket. This ticket goes into our “Library Reward Jar” for a chance to win an exciting prize!

The winner will be drawn in Week 8, so the more books you borrow, the more chances you have to win!

It’s a fun way to explore new stories, discover new interests, and enjoy the magic of reading. We can’t wait to see which lucky readers will take home a special reward. Happy reading!
