From the Leadership Team

STAFF

We welcome Melissa Ryan into her role as Student Wellbeing Leader, while Dan Ryan has taken on the position as Principal at Hamley Bridge Primary School. Melissa has seamlessly stepped into her role, continuing the excellent practices already in place and adding her own special touch.

A huge thank you to our wonderful staff for their flexibility and willingness to step into other roles as we navigate the significant amount of sickness affecting everyone. All schools are currently finding it extremely difficult to find teachers, and we are no exception. A particular shout out to Harrison Varley and Linda Travers for stepping into our Room 2 Reception class and doing such a great job, while Chloe Allchurch recovers from surgery.

Tyler Perrotta will be on parental leave from Week 6 until the end of the term. We are organising Tyler’s replacement and will inform students and families as soon as things are finalised.

SCHOOL SPEED LIMIT

While on morning and afternoon crossing duty, we have become increasingly concerned about the speed at which cars are travelling along Mildred Street and through the school crossing. Please remember that school zones have a speed limit of 25 km/h. If you notice a car not adhering to the speed limit while children are present, please take note of the number plate and report it to the local police station. We will also endeavour to have local police monitoring the area during these times when available. Thank you to the parents who do a fantastic job of role modelling for our students by using the crossing, even when they do not have children with them.

GROUNDS

Kane Ryan, Daniel Ryan, and Jarred Tilley generously gave their time during the term break to cut and remove the asphalt area that is being redeveloped into a Bush Tucker Learning area. Their willingness to volunteer for such a significant task saved the school a substantial amount of money, which can now be allocated towards paths, plantings, and features to create a beautiful natural space for our students to learn in and enjoy. A massive shout-out to these three fantastic members of our school community.

The redevelopment of the education house is progressing well and is moving closer to becoming our new KOSHC space. We have received Council approval and are awaiting final approval for KOSHC to transfer to the new location. Local builder and parent, Wes Farley, has done a fantastic job bringing our vision for the interior to life. We are currently at the painting and new flooring installation stage and are very much on track for KOSHC to start in 2026 in this great new space.

AROUND THE SCHOOL

We have already had a number of fantastic events happen over the first few weeks of Term 3. Aboriginal Children’s Day celebrations were held down at the Town Square. This is an annual community event that we are grateful our junior primary children have the opportunity to participate in. Our middle primary classes were involved in tree planting at the Kapunda Mines, while our year 5/6 students headed to the high school for Science activities. Mrs Lindner’s year 1/2 class visited the Kapunda Homes, where the students had a lovely time chatting and doing activities with the residents. Both the students and residents are looking forward to continuing this partnership throughout the year.

Congratulations to the students involved in the SAPSASA soccer held earlier this week. Amarah Munzer and Acacia Chester helped the girl’s team to their 1st place position while Riley Rewell and the boys’ coach, our own Harrison Varley came in at 3rd by only 1 point. Well done to all!

Next week, we have our Book Week parade on Friday morning in the Gym. Our parade is always a happy and lively event, with many parents getting into the atmosphere by also dressing up. This year’s theme is Adventure, and we are looking forward to seeing some of the costumes that link to this.

GOVERNING COUNCIL

A shout out to all members of our Governing Council, who are showing their commitment to identifying and supporting the ongoing improvement of our school. We thank Lucy Pacino and Jess Holmes for their time on Governing Council and appreciate their continued support to our school in other ways.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the KPS Governing Council currently has two vacancies.  To help fulfill our roles we invite any interested people from the school community to become a member.  The Governing Council not only oversees the school’s management, it provides an opportunity for members to focus on improving different aspects of our school; including Parents & Friends fundraising, uniforms, KOSHC and the school grounds.  We meet twice a term at 6:30pm on a Wednesday.  If you would like to contribute more to our school, please get in touch on 0427662056 or greenwith.invermay@outlook.com
