Presentation Day Assemblies

Our Stage 2 and Stage 3 Presentation Day assemblies will take place next week in the school hall and every parent is very welcome to join us. Parents of children who are receiving an award have been invited to attend in person.

Presentation Day awards

To ensure that students value Presentation Day awards each year, there is just one award for each group of 5 students in a class ie a ratio of 1 award to 5 students.

Main awards for Stage 3 presentation

  • Citizenship Award - The school citizenship award recognises the qualities of ’friendship, honesty, loyalty, fairness and courage in normal daily life’. Currently sponsored by Five Dock RSL under the ethos of ‘ANZAC’ spirit, the winner of this award receives a $150 JB HIFI card with a framed award.
  • Academic Award - This award acknowledges outstanding academic achievement in domains encompassing literacy and numeracy, as well as classroom projects such as Thinking Keys, Maths Olympiad, STEAM enrichment sessions and various extracurricular academic pursuits.
  • Leadership Award (prefect) - Presented to an outgoing school prefect in recognition of an exceptional level of leadership which might include: community involvement, initiative shown in school leadership endeavours, and extracurricular participation. This award is currently sponsored by local MP, Sally Sitou.
  • Principal’s “School Spirit” Award - The recipient of this award displays a strong work ethic in all aspects of their school life reflected in their involvement in classroom, school and extracurricular activities. They present themselves as an outstanding role model to their peers and are recognised for their ‘school spirit’ by other students, teachers and the school Principal.

Recipients of these four major awards will receive a personal trophy. In addition their names will be permanently engraved on new honour boards to be installed in 2024.

Additionally:

  • Sydney Secondary College (Balmain) Award - Presented to a year 6 student enrolled for SSC Balmain who meets the criteria of: high expectations, student voice and responsibility - consistent with the values of SSC Balmain - this award includes a voucher that can be redeemed for uniforms, text books etc. at SSC.
  • Frank Marjason Award (Year 5) - The Frank Marjason Award is an award given each year to a Year 5 student. This award is an acknowledgement of a student’s ongoing effort and achievement academically, and for their passion in the creative arts. The recipient of this award has also displayed a high level of commitment and dedication to all aspects of school life.

Parents & Volunteers Thank You Morning Tea

It was wonderful today to say thank you to all our parents and volunteers who have helped out in so many ways across the school this year. We are so very lucky to have the support of the community through the P&C and through the many diverse roles undertaken by volunteers.

Thank you also to our dedicated scripture and Ethics volunteers for their faithful commitment to the school throughout the year.

Sun Safety

We experience some of the highest UV levels in the world, so if we want our children to have a healthy future, we need to equip them with good sun protection habits now. School hours are at the time of day when UV levels are at their highest. It’s vital that we educate our children and ourselves about good sun protection behaviours.

You can protect your child from the damaging effects of UV radiation by applying sunscreen each morning before they leave for school and ensuring they are wearing a sun-safe hat. This is one of the easiest and most effective forms of sun protection. If students forget their hat, they are asked to play in the shade.

Labelling hats is also an excellent way to ensure if your child's hat is lost or misplaced, it can be returned.

Class of the Week - 3/4A

The students in class 3/4A have been learning about different styles of poetry, including diamante, haiku, cinquain and shape poetry.

They have learnt about the structure of each type of poem and created their own imaginative poems on chosen topics.

Finally they practiced their computer skills, choosing various graphics, texts and layouts to display their poems creatively.

Year 6 Market day

Market Day was a great success for all of year six. We started off by organising places around the playground for each stall. There were many different opportunities to go to stalls, with each one having a great experience. Almost every child went home with prizes to enjoy.

We definitely think it was a great time for all grades and even the year six students enjoyed setting up for their big day. We were so relieved that the weather was good and it didn't rain. We raised lots of money for our end of year activities.

Our biggest highlight of the Market Day was seeing all the joy on everyone's faces and knowing there was something different for everyone.  Hoping the best for the year five students next year, we’re sure they will have the time of their lives just like we did.

Congratulations

Last weekend, Aydin Dizdar (4/5K) performed in 4 shows across 2 days as part of the Schools Spectacular. He performed as a Featured Dancer in both the 'Back to the 80's' segment, and the Boys Hip Hop Ensemble in the 40th anniversary of Schools Spectacular, which showcased the performing arts talents of over 5,000 students across NSW public schools. For anyone interested in watching, it will be televised on Channel 7 on Saturday, 9 December 2023 at 7pm.

Aydin has also earned a part in a new movie directed by Rebel Wilson, "The Deb" and has been busy filming scenes in Carcoar.

Congratulations on your achievements, Aydin!

Student recount from Aydin

Schools Spectacular was the best time of my life! It was so cool to be able to perform as a featured dancer alongside all these different incredible featured artists and alongside various different kids in public schools that share the exact same position as me! I want to thank the incredible teachers, choreographers and certainly the amazing Sonya who put this INCREDIBLE show together with only a few rehearsals. All the new friends you make are mind blowing and the AMAZING Qudos Bank Arena is just wild.

The Deb was such an AMAZING opportunity for me. It was so fun getting to work with the INCREDIBLE Rebel Wilson and all the different mentors and teachers that guided us all the whole way. It was so cool to meet various different industry professionals and get to work with incredible kids that have the same love for dance as me.

Order online with Flexischools in 2024!

Drummoyne Public School P&C have undergone an extensive review of software providers over the last several months as an alternative to School24. From this review the P&C have chosen 'Flexischools' which allows parents and students a more convenient way to order and pay for canteen, uniform and events online.

This change will be effective Term 1, 2024. DPS will continue to use School24 for the remainder of this term. From Term 1, 2024 you will no longer be able to order via School24. If you currently hold an account balance, please start running this down over the next few weeks. If you still have a balance left after the end of term, instructions for balance transfers to Flexischools will be provided in Term 1, 2024.

Why are we changing to Flexischools?

    • Cost effective - Less fees to parents and the P&C! You can avoid all card fees by topping up from your bank account, and you can use your balance for uniform purchases and events. Service fees with Flexischools are $0.22 cents per child per meal break.
    • Better app - A user friendly, straightforward, and reliable app, which is used by approximately 1,600 schools across Australia. The “Favourites” feature remembers your child’s regular order and is a quick way to place your canteen orders.
    • Less back-end issues and better service - Our trial and admin users have already seen a fantastic improvement behind the scenes, and with service levels from Flexischools.

We are looking for a few helpers, so please reach out to your class parent or the office if you can help on the day.

    MONTY’S MUNCH CANTEEN NEWS

    Monty’s Munch Canteen

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you to our amazing parent volunteers Sarah, Dee, Oznur, Melissa and Erika. Thank you also to our student helpers Deniz, Eve, Delilah, Issie and Kornei.

We will be running our stock down as we head into the final weeks of the school year. This is so waste can be kept to a minimum. Some items may not be available and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience.

Please note there will be no Sushi in the last week of term.

Eugenie will be away from the 7th December. Please, Catherine will need support from the school community to help with the orders and over the counter service. These last weeks in the canteen will be very busy.  No one had registered to volunteer today. An email was sent out requesting a volunteer today, I had no response from anyone. It is vital to have enough volunteers these last couple of weeks so lunches can be prepared, assembled and put into the lunch tubs on time. It is very stressful trying to prepare, cook, assemble and pack lunches etc on busy days alone.
