Principal's Message

Lambton Live – tickets on sale tonight

It is my pleasure to be able to share with you the exciting news that tickets to Lambton Live: Rewind go on sale at 7:00pm tonight. To provide parents with detailed information, you should have received a letter on Friday in both paper and electronic form explaining the process by which tickets are being sold. If you have not read that letter yet, I would strongly urge you to do so, before the tickets go on sale tonight (we have also reattached it below). As I explain in that letter, we have a large and very comfortable venue with 1200 seats, however it will not be possible to accommodate large family or extended family groups. Families will need to consider who should attend.

The school’s highest priority is to provide students, parents and carers with the opportunity to be in the audience for the performance. Whilst I acknowledge it may be disappointing that some extended family members may be unable to attend, I hope that you would understand that there are limitations to any venue. I hope that as the Ticketebo website opens for sales tonight your booking experience is smooth and hassle free. As explained in the letter, if you have difficulties with the platform, please contact our office on Monday outlining any problems faced so that we can liaise with the Ticketebo team to resolve them quickly. For now, I hope that as the tickets go on sale, that you feel a real and growing excitement for this Lambton Live event that is ahead of us.

School break-ins

Since the start of Term 3, it is sad to report that our school has been broken into on 3 separate occasions with a range of electronic devices stolen from classrooms along with several personal items belonging to teachers. Two of these incidences occurred last week. In the 4 ½ years that I have been at Lambton there haven’t been any break-ins, the school security fencing generally is a big deterrent to opportunistic thieves. School security have shared with us, that in the last few months there has been a significant increase in school break-ins in the Newcastle area. I share this information for two reasons: firstly, if thieves are active in the Lambton area, families are encouraged to review their home security arrangements. Secondly, I shared the news of the break-ins with the students to help them connect societal issues like theft with our values. If we are respectful citizens, we would never consider stealing - because it impacts others. Stealing from schools is not a victimless crime, it impacts students. Although the devices are insured and will be replaced, 2 classes of students who genuinely love learning and engaging in class activities were without devices to support their learning this week.

I used last week’s thefts as a ‘teaching opportunity’ around respect for others and how to get help or support if your circumstances are so dire you feel compelled to steal. Families might like to continue these conversations at home. For now, if you live near the school or pass by regularly, please keep an eye out for anything suspicious. If you are concerned after hours, please report it to School Security on 1300 880 021.

Zone Athletics

Good luck to the Zone Athletics team representing Lambton this coming Friday at the Newcastle PSSA Zone Athletics Carnival at Hunter Sports Centre, Glendale. The team representing us is listed further on in today’s newsletter. I’m supremely proud of all of our students but permit me to make a special mention today of Ella in Year 6 who will be representing Lambton at a zone carnival for the very first time in the Senior Girls multi-class 100m (wheelchair event). Congratulations to all students who qualified in the team – go Lambton!

P & C Disco Reminders

The P & C  Disco will be held this Thursday evening and promises to be a fun filled evening for our students. The disco times are below, please do not arrive any earlier than 15 minutes before the scheduled start times.

  • Kinder - Year 2  commencing at 4:45 pm
  • Years 3-6  commencing at 6:30 pm

How to buy tickets - Tickets and permission can be arranged at the door for those families that have not purchased tickets via School Bytes, but children must be accompanied by an adult to do so.

What to wear - Students may attend the disco out of school uniform, avoiding items that are immodest or with inappropriate slogans, language or images. All students must wear appropriate closed in footwear (no thongs). Students are not permitted to wear tops that leave their midriff area bare.

Canteen - The Canteen will not be operating for purchase of drinks or snacks during the disco. Parents and carers are advised to plan for students to have dinner at home either before or after their designated disco session. Students are encouraged to bring their own water bottle clearly labelled with their name.

Collection of students - Students are to be collected by a known parent or carer. At the conclusion of each disco, the DJ with the support of the teachers, will have students collect their drink bottles then sit on the floor of the hall. Parents will enter through the door closest to the grass side of the Cola. Students will be instructed to stand and meet their parents at the rear of the hall once they have spotted them. Parents and their children should then exit from the hall via the doors located closest to the canteen (Door B). If you have arranged for a friend or relative to collect your child from the disco, please provide a note to the supervising teachers at the disco stating the name and relationship of the person collecting your child.

Please note: that the disco is ONLY for students attending our school, younger or older siblings are not permitted to attend.

Education Week / Book Week 2023

We had a wonderful day last Tuesday 1st August, celebrating the value of books with our community and the quality teaching and learning that occurs at Lambton Public School.

The children and LPS staff had a fabulous time and appreciated your involvement. If you were unable to visit the school, we hope you were able to participate through the excitement of your children and their retelling of the day.

Thank you to all the parents and families who supported the day by assisting with your child’s book character costume, purchasing books from the book fair, ordering a special lunch, participating in the open classrooms or attending the book character parade.

Scholastic Fairs supplied our book fair this year and the children really enjoyed the experience and excitement of having a book shop in our library.

As a percentage of books sold, LPS was able to purchase $1,110 worth of books for our library from Scholastic Fairs. All those books will be available for students to borrow this term. Your continued support of this valuable event and fundraiser for our school is greatly appreciated.

We were also very fortunate to have two talented authors, Tim Harris and Aleesah Darlison, visit us during the week. Both authors provided entertaining and educational presentations that we hope inspired and motivated students to develop their own writing skills.

Our Father's Day Stall is scheduled for Thursday 31st August. There will be $2, $5 and $10 gifts to choose from.

Children will be taken to the stall in class groups. We suggest labelled envelopes or zip locked bags for younger age groups.

Our P & C host their popular Father's Day Breakfast from 8:00 am Friday 1 September.  Families will be able to order

  • Egg & Bacon on Turkish Break circle
  • Egg & Bacon Sandwich (gluten free)
  • Large fruit salad
  • Choice of variety of muffins and juices

Notes will be sent home tomorrow providing more details. Orders can be placed online via MySchoolConnect or over the counter at the Canteen. Orders must be placed by 9:00 am Wednesday 23 August.

Parenting Ideas

In this week's Parenting Ideas article, Dr Justin Coulson discusses the effectiveness of bribery and rewards as parenting tools and suggest strategies for those parents wishing to move away from these techniques. We hope you enjoy this week's article.

These include fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell/taste, muscle/joint pains, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting, extreme tiredness, unexplained chest pain or conjunctivitis (eye infection).
  • If symptoms occur at any time, your child should not attend school and is encouraged to undertake a rapid antigen test (RAT).
  • If your child tests positive, they should not attend school while displaying any symptoms and please notify the school.
