The Gospel (Matthew 13:28 - 30)

Jesus continued, “The farmhands asked, ‘Should we weed out the thistles?’ He said, ‘No, if you weed the thistles, you’ll pull up the wheat, too. Let them grow together until harvest time. Then I’ll instruct the harvesters to pull up the thistles and tie them in bundles for the fire, then gather the wheat and put it in the shed’”.

... On the way to Mass

Where in your life and throughout the universe do you see a growth of less to more?

On the way home from Mass ...

What happened to the mustard seed? What happens to bread when you add yeast? How is this like the Kingdom of heaven?

The Prayer

Living God, we give thanks that you journey with us into the future. Open us to the gifts of your presence, and increase our willingness to follow as you lead. Turn our hearts to find their way home in you.

Amen.

The Question of the Week

Staff/Parents

What “weeds” are you invited to live in patience with now?

Can you identify a good trait in one or two people with whom you don’t get along.

Primary Students

When have you witnessed or experienced God doing an amazing thing with something small?

The Action

Jesus tells a great story of good seed and bad, and how they grow up together in the harvest of the world. We experience this reality in the contents of our own hearts. We have wonderful, generous impulses; and also cruel, petty thoughts. We may be heroic in our love one day, and selfish in the next. We forgive and withhold forgiveness. Our fields are waist-high in grain and thistles. Try “preventative” over “punitive” justice. Give people a break: forgive and show mercy before it’s deserved. Be kind when kindness isn’t returned. Try patience instead of irritation. Plant a good seed in every encounter. “Are you listening to this? Really listening?”

Welcome Back

Welcome back to all our students, staff and families. We hope you had a wonderful and relaxing break. We look forward to a busy and exciting Term 3.
