From the Acting Principal

It is so nice to be back at Wasleys Primary School this term, and what a busy start it has been. We have continued our work in Wellbeing, and staff have begun SMART trauma informed practice training.

WEC Data

We have just completed our Wellbeing and Engagement Collection data collection (Years 4-6), which will be used to further inform our aims for Wellbeing at Wasleys.

Pastoral Care Worker

Carli has been working with JP students on Monday and MP/UP students on Tuesday to build wellbeing within the school. This week she was working on gratitude and what we are thankful for. Her role plays a significant support system within Wellbeing at Wasleys.

Pupil Free Day

Our next Pupil Free day on the 11th June will provide another opportunity to work collaboratively on our Wellbeing aims.

Reconciliation Week and Mudla Wirra

This week is Reconciliation Week with the theme 'Now More Than Ever'. Whilst in the Middle/Upper Primary this week I learnt more about Mudla Wirra. Did you know that the town of Wasleys was established in an area known as the Mudla Wirra Forest? The name Mudla Wirra means ‘implement forest’. Classes have explored our Acknowledgment of Country, listened to music, recreated artworks and read many picture books. I was able to work with small groups to cook saltbush bread. We looked at real saltbush from the Barossa Bushgardens, and enjoyed eating it warm with butter.

Camp Quality Puppets

On Monday 20th May we had the Camp Quality Puppets visit our school. This was a highly engaging, supportive and age appropriate program to build children's understanding of cancer.

Mothers Day Stall Thank you

Thank you to Kim and Kelly for their support with organising and running our Mother’s Day Stall this term. We appreciate all the time taken to source, package and sell some beautiful Mother's Day gifts for our families.

National Simultaneous Story Time

On Wednesday the 22nd May classes read 'Bowerbird Blues' as part of National Simultaneous Story Time. A lovely story about collecting blue objects, going on a journey, challenge and building a home.

SAPOL

SAPOL visited Wasleys Primary School this week with information about how we can be safe in the community and online. Some of the discussion was about road safety in front of the school, and entering/exiting the car on the kerbside. Students were also reminded of online safety with apps and online gaming.

Wasleys Primary School Values and Expectations

In this newsletter you will see our Values and Expectations. Classes have been focusing on embedding and unpacking these. Our School Expectations are part of our Behaviour Code, and when referring to behaviour we work restoratively to build skills in the areas of Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible.

Belonging, Opportunity, Achievement and Teamwork are the values that underpin the ethos and culture of Wasleys Primary School. We will be working as a school to further embed these as part of our focus on Wellbeing.

We have had a productive and busy start to Term 2, and I hope you enjoy seeing some of our events featured in this newsletter. We have been living into the value of Opportunity - with students experiencing a range of learning opportunities this term.

School T-Shirt Approved by Governing Council

School T-Shirt Design Approved

Wasleys Primary School Governing Council have approved the t-shirt featured in the image to be part of the School Uniform. Parents/Caregivers were surveyed as part of the decision making process.

A school uniform represents the school values of Belonging and Teamwork. It facilitates students to feel school pride, a sense of belonging and that they are part of a Wasleys Primary School team and community.

The Uniform Policy will be updated with a timeframe for the rolling out of the t-shirt (over a year) and the school will be supplying all students with one t-shirt initially next term.

More information will be coming home soon.
