Today we celebrated Public Education Week by opening the classrooms up to parents and families. Students led their parents through a discussion of various work samples that they have prepared in class. It was great to see so many parents during the open classrooms.

Public School Parent of the Year Award

I am delighted to share the wonderful news with you all, that Maryanne Thompson was awarded the Public School Parent of the Year Award which acknowledges the fourteen years of service that Maryanne has contributed here at Rydalmere Public School.  The ceremony was held at Town Hall on Monday evening as part of the celebrations for Public Education Week. As I was writing her nomination, it was wonderful to learn about the various roles that she has undertaken since 2010 when her daughter began kindergarten here at the school. She has taken on various volunteer roles in the canteen, uniform shop, mother's day and father's day stalls, organising raffles, discos, movie nights, along with various roles as P&C Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President.  Congratulations Maryanne!

Athletics Carnival

Well done to all of our fabulous students who all participated in a variety of events. A big thank you to Mrs Arnott and Mrs Colotouros for organising the carnival. Students will soon receive their ribbons at the next whole school assembly. Students who have qualified for the Zone track and field events carnivals, will be sent permission notes via school bytes.

Have a wonderful week and hopefully I will see you next Thursday at the book week character parade.

Science Incursion Highlights

Recently, our students enjoyed an exciting science incursion focused on exploring the wonders of electricity, heat and energy. They engaged in various activities, including building their own mini fans using simple circuits and making solar ovens to harness the power of the sun. Through these interactive experiments, students gained practical insights into how electrical circuits work and the principles of solar energy. The incursion fostered creativity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of science in action. It was a fantastic experience that sparked curiosity and enthusiasm for the world of science!

Supporting Your Child's Online Safety

As October’s Cyber Security Awareness Month approaches, it’s a great time to plan ahead and take advantage of valuable resources designed for families. Find engaging activities and helpful information to support parents and children in navigating online safety.

  • Navigating online friendships – transitioning to secondary school: how to support your 11- to 12-year-old as they prepare to move to high school.
  • Online safety training for young people living with disability: understand what you can do to keep vulnerable young people safe when online. This video-based training includes real-life stories from parents, carers and participants who have faced these issues.
  • Cyber playtime videos: learn more about cyber safety, online stranger danger, passwords, phishing and being kind online. For families with 5 to 8-year-olds.

Year 6 Fundraising

Year 6 parents, we'd greatly appreciate your donation of baked goods! Please bring your treats to the Community Hub (purple building) on Thursday morning (15 August) for our cake stall. Please label cakes and slices with the ingredient list and with your containers for ease of return. Please do not bake anything with nuts.

All funds raised will go towards the year 6 farewell and their legacy gift to the school. Thank you! We look forward to seeing you there.

Grooving with Claudia: Rhythms and Beats!

The students have been thoroughly enjoying their music lessons with Claudia from Rhythm Village. Last week, they had a fantastic time drumming, exploring different beats and rhythms. This week, they are diving deeper into the world of rhythm, learning more about its various elements and how to master them. Claudia's engaging and interactive approach keeps the students enthusiastic and eager to discover more about the art of music.

Reminder: Pencil Case Supplies & Donations

Just a quick reminder to check and top up the pencil case supplies for our students. Ensure each student has adequate pens, pencils, erasers, and other essentials.

Additionally, if possible, we would greatly appreciate donations of paper towels and hand soap for classroom use.

From the Office

RPS Preschool Enrolments for 2025 are now open.

General Guidelines

Public preschools enrol children for one year only, the year before they start school.  Children can enrol from the beginning of the school year if they turn four years of age before 31 July that year.

Priority is given to:

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander children
  • children living in low socio-economic circumstances
  • children who are unable to access other early childhood settings due to financial hardship

The Principal will then offer enrolment in the following order:

  • children living within the school's catchment area
  • children living outside the catchment area but have siblings at the school
  • other applicants

For further information, please go to the NSW Department of Education link below:

Our office staff are happy to be of assistance with any further questions or with the enrolment process.

Thank you.

Islamic Special Religious Education Volunteers

Our school is currently looking for an Islamic Scripture Teacher to teach Islamic scripture to Muslim students.  The lessons are for half an hour every Friday.

If you are interested, please get in touch with the ISRE (Islamic Special Religious Education) on (02) 9708 0880.  info@isre.org.au

Change of Details

Please contact the office by email rydalmere-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au if there has been a change to any of the following to your child/children's details:

- change of address.

- change of email.

- phone numbers - mobile or home/work.

- change of emergency contacts.

- Additional/change of medical circumstances

Lost Property

Our PBL expectations of being Safe, Respectful Learners support our students in taking responsibility for their own belongings at school including jumpers, hats, lunchboxes and drink bottles.

To support your child and the school in maintaining lost property to a minimum level we ask that parents or carers clearly label all items brought to school with your child's FULL NAME.

The most common items to lost property include jumpers and hats, lunchboxes and drink bottles, and personal treasures. Students have access to lost property during the school day to search for misplaced possessions. When possible, labelled items in the lost property will be returned to students. Due to the limited space for lost property, unlabeled and unclaimed items are regularly disposed of.

Lost property is located at the front of the office.
