TERM 3 FINISHES FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 27TH. SCHOOL FINISHES AT 2PM.

A message from Julie

What a fabulous afternoon! The weather was not as ordered but we still enjoyed the celebration.  Thank you all for your support of our colour fun run.  It was wonderful to see the joy on students faces as they ran through the obstacles and enjoyed the festivities.  Your fundraising support is appreciated.  The fundraising portal remains open for a little while longer and a final total will be shared with families later next week.

On Saturday September 14, 21 of our year 5 and 6 students participated in the Festival of Music.  Their day began at 12pm, where they met Tammy, Ms Barry and myself at the Festival Theatre in the city for rehearsal.  The rehearsal was followed by dinner on the banks of the River Torrens then back to the theatre for main event.   It was a very proud moment to watch our students join others to make a choir of 450 children and to see our amazing soloist, Sunny perform on the stage.  The Festival Choir performance certainly was a highlight for me this term!  Special thank you to Tammy and Ms Barry for volunteering their time on Saturday, to the families for attending and of course, our fabulous performers.

This term has certainly moved quickly.  As we head in to the final week of the term, it is a timely reminder to take a moment to check through the lost property for any of your student’s belongings.  There is a lost property collection in both the Early Years and Primary building.  I am hoping that we will be able to reunite many of the items with their owners before the end of the week.

Term 4 is always a term of celebrations and additional activities.  I encourage you to check the dates to remember section at the start of the newsletter for key events and celebrations.  Planning has already begun for our end of year concert and Year 6 graduation as well as many other class based activities.  It will be a fun term of learning and acknowledging the year that was.

I have really appreciated speaking with families and students before and after school while I have been on duty.  I encourage you to stop and say hello.  With only 5 school days left of term, I wish you all a wonderful break with your families.

SAPSASA News

SAPSASA Athletics

Dernancourt School would like to acknowledge the awesome efforts of Holly Schmaal, Liara Lumsden, Lucas Kiener and Tyler Stagg who each got selected to represent the Adelaide North East District team for athletics. They all performed admirably and enjoyed their day getting to test their skills against some of the best students in the state. We hope they can continue these achievements in the years to come and also help other students from our school gain encouragement from their awesome results. Holly competed in the Long Jump, Liara in the Discus, Lucas in the 100 metre Relay, Tyler in the Shot Put and 100 metre relay.

Dernancourt School finished 3rd overall all in our Carnival day in Week 6 and we would like to congratulate all the members of our team on this massive achievement.

Congratulations Tyler. Tyler received a silver medal in his relay.

Flag Rugby

On Monday of week 8 Dernancourt School flag rugby teams traveled to Banksia Park International High School to compete in the Northeastern Zone Year 5/6 Tag Rugby Carnival. The a day started off gloomy with rain on our walk to catch public transport at paradise interchange. It soon changed into a perfect day with students performing well and improving their skills as they learned more about how the game is played.  The Boys team went the day undefeated, which is a great achievement while the girls team also performed well, winning 3 games drawing 1 and losing 1.  They also had three year 4 students in their team. The carnival day is not only based on results, it also incorporates values and behaviour.  The boys team came away on with the "Fair Play" trophy and our girls were successful in winning the "Respect" trophy.
