School News

Fireworks!!!

Wow!! Our 2025 Fireworks certainly went off with a BANG!! The event this year was certainly the best one we have held for quite some time. We wanted to give a massive Thank You to the following:

  • Ms Julie Gouvas - 2025 Fireworks Coordinator
  • The 2025 Fireworks Committee
  • The 2025 P&C
  • The many volunteers that supported the events, including those in the community and local high schools.
  • The staff that gave up their weekends to attend and support
  • The many businesses that contributed and donated towards the event
  • The many people that attended the event to make this event the best one for years.

The committee has been working tirelessly for several years at making this event so amazing. However, as the committee is made up of many members that will depart our school in 2026 the event is evolving.

The 2026 Fireworks Event has been returned to the school to coordinate. This will ensure the event will continue to function and provide a wonderful extravaganza year after year.

We have started to prepare the groundwork for this event already. Updates for the event will become part of the report delivered to the P&C.

We ask you to add the following date to your calendar for 2026:

Saturday 9 May 2026

We hope you can join us!

End of Day Procedures

Please be aware that our staff have end of day roles that they need to complete in order to keep our students safe and buses departing on time. Our staff are becoming increasingly busy as the bell goes with many people asking about the progress of their children and updates on their day. We appreciate the connection, however this is now becoming increasingly difficult with the end of day expectations of our school procedures. Buses have been delayed and students waiting for dismissal have been left unsupervised.

We ask that moving forward you allow our staff to perform their end of day routines without interruption. Staff will usually be back at their classrooms around 10 minutes after the bell has gone and will happily answer your questions at this point in time.

You may also send emails to the school email address, marked with the person you wish for the message to be forwarded too. These emails will be passed on and staff can reply to your emails directly.

goulburnn-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au

Alternatively, you can make an appointment to meet your child's classroom teacher. These will always be scheduled when the member of staff has the time to effectively respond to your request and address your concerns.

We ask that you do not interrupt our staff at the end of the school day. We are trying to keep everyone safe and buses running on time.

We thank you all for your support in this matter.

Attendance Focus

Attendance is a focus of the Department of Education. The school monitors all students attendance at school. You will initially hear from your child's classroom teacher, when your child's attendance is irregular or if we have not seen your child after consecutive days of absences. This may also include a class when we receive an explanation, but the absences is prolonged.

This is a requirement of the School Attendance Policy of the Department of Education. A link to this policy is provided below. It is derived from the Education Act of NSW.

After you have heard from your child's classroom teacher you may hear from your child's Team Leader. They may also ask to meet with you to develop an Attendance Support Plan. These are all requirements of the policy. This process is about working together to support you and your child's needs.

Attendance concerns that continue, can lead to the issuing of a Letter 1A. This letter outlines that the school has concerns regarding your child's attendance and requests you to make contact with the school to organise an Attendance Meeting. These are standard letters that all schools in NSW provide to families.

Should the concerns continue a Letter 1B is issued and this is to seek further support from our regional Home School Liaison Officer (HSLO). These are also standard letters and part of the attendance policy and procedures.

The entire process is all about how we can support you and your child with coming to school and continuing their learning journey.

Please find the link to the NSW Department of Education's School Attendance Policy. This also contains links to Section 22 and 24 of the Education Act 1990.

Please contact your child's Team Leader if you would like to discuss this policy further.

Attendance at School Matters...

Stationery Pack Update

Our stationery outline will be updated shortly to reflect the addition of two whiteboard markers. These are used constantly in our learning environments. All students have access to mini whiteboards and the some classes have whiteboard top tables. From term 2, all students will require 2x Whiteboard Markers of any colour added to their personal stationery supply.

We do ask you to ensure that these are 'Whiteboard' markers and not 'Permanent' Markers. Permanent Markers are still not required in student personal supplies.

Stationery Needs - 2025

As we end the school year and prepare for a new one, our current stationery list will remain in place for 2025.

All students will be asked to supply their own basic stationery needs at school. The need for students to take some ownership and responsibility in this area has increased over the years. We are hoping that this sense of ownership over the supply will lead to our students taking great care with their supplies. Part of this plan will be that equipment will be sent home each Friday. This will allow our community to review your children's current equipment levels and resupply as needed.

The school has created this list based on basic Kmart resources. This ensures it is accessible and fairly low in cost. You do have the flexibility of adjusting the brands and exact purchases based on what is available and meets the needs of the list.

The cost of a K-3 stationery supply is roughly $13, whilst a 4-6 stationery supply is slightly higher at around $17.

The school will continue to have a small supply to help with meeting the needs of those student who forget their pencil case or who are unable to purchase the required equipment.

If you have any questions regarding this, please contact your child's classroom teacher or team leader.

Ali Condylios is our Community Liaison Officer (CLO) and works on Tuesdays to support our school and community. She can be contacted at the address above.

School Uniform as a focus in 2025

We are so proud of our school and are keen to maintain our current momentum. We would like to refocus our attention back on the need for our students to wear our uniform each day. The Behaviour Code for Students outlines an expectation that all students will '...meet the school's agreed uniform policy or dress code'.

Our focus will shift in 2025, with a renewed expectation for students to wear their uniform each day. The inclusion of the 'commemorative shirt' will continue in 2025. However the regular uniform that is now purchased from Lowes looks amazing. We want to ensure that the great school of North, is represented through the uniform that all students wear each day.

To assist with this focus, our new 2025, Reward System will be reflected with this focus in 2025. More details below.

Weekly Round Ups

Term 2 Week 1

Week 1 was very busy as we returned to learning.

The weather changed and the leaves were dropped onto the ground. Our NL students took some time to gather these for disposal. They were great ground assistants.

ANZAC Day was held in the school holidays and our first day back saw a small service take place at the school flag poles. Classes spent time learning about the ANZACs and made poppies to decorate the flag pole area with.

The P&C finalised the pavers from years ago and these look amazing along the pathway into the school. Our Cross Country Carnival was held and we had the amazing help from our high school friends from Mulwaree. The junior school also held a small carnival on the same day.

Some of our Northern Stars went off to the Tablelands Touch Trials and had an amazing time.

Such a busy start to term 2!

Term 2 Week 1

Term 2 Week 2

Week 2 arrived and the Fireworks was just around the corner. The P&C tables arrived to replace our old and aging stock. The installation of a new table trolley was purchased making the setting up of the carnival much easier.

Our Sphero Classroom Kit arrived and is now available for use across the school. We appreciate this amazing addition to Science and Technology in our Robotics programs. This was a wonderful resource made available through the school P&C.

Northern Lights were continuing their cooking program. They made amazing and delicious food for the Fireworks Cake stall. All their creations were sold out on the night itself.

Our connection with the Smith Family continues to blossom with the opening of the Learning Hub on Wednesday afternoons. We are so thankful for their support of our students this term.

Mother's Day was over the weekend and we celebrated our Mothers with the annual afternoon tea event. This included a riveting performance from our Wizard of OZ cast.

Our Koby shined when he made meaningful connections with the junior students of Onyx. He was able to reach them through the gift of reading. They were enthralled by his spellbinding reading.

We thank the community for their donations of warm winter coats. This was an opportunity to pass on coats to others and for students and family to pick up another coat for the cold winter season ahead.

Our Northern Lights continued to develop their Boccia skills at school. They were preparing for the regional competition this year.

Term 2 Week 2

Term 2 Week 3

Northern Lights Diamond took control of the Podcasting station and learnt about the joys of this craft. We look forward to hearing their marvellous creations.

Koby continues to be a spellbinding reader to the junior students in Onyx.

The district cross country carnival was held at Wollondilly PS. Our Northern Stars shone, and some are even moving onto the Regional Carnival.

The school held its annual Athletics Carnival Event. We were concerned by the possible turn of the weather, but thankfully it was a wonderful day had by all. We thank Miss Martin for putting together a wonderful event.

Our students also went off to the Gala Day for touch and tag.

The week ended with the Walk Safely To School Day. It was a wonderful way to round off yet another busy North Week.

Term 2 Week 3

Term 2 Week 4

Week 4 had the National Simultaneous Storytime. All classes participated and heard the brilliant story of the Truck Cat.

Parliament was opened and the new format was walked through. We look forward to the first official session where our students will increase their voice and agency in the school.

Mrs Gibson finished up at North for a short period of time. She will be returning to the joy of welcoming her third child into the Gibson household shortly. What a busy busy week.

Term 2 Week 4

Term 2 Week 5

Reconciliation Week arrived in Week 5. Our student learnt about 'Sorry Day' and the stolen generation and we then started Reconciliation Week on the Tuesday. The theme for 2025 is 'Bridging now to next' and we hope that our actions helps to bridge some of that gap to the next generation.
