Principal's Message - Kim Fraser

Well NAPLAN has arrived!! and the students have again attended to the assessment with resilience, calmness, and a sense of pride in ‘having a go’ when they were unsure of a question. We are incredibly proud of all the students’ achievements, not just during NAPLAN, and know they are always challenging their thinking with a growth mindset. A very big thank you to Mr J and all the year 3 and 5 teachers for their support with this process.

We had an amazing turnout last week for the Resilience Project Parent Workshop. It was a great opportunity to directly share with parents one of our major focuses and directions that support Mental Health and Wellbeing. We are in the initial stages of implementation and staff have had lots of input, and professional learning to support their students with this school-wide initiative. We are now very keen to actively engage our parents developing positive links and support structures for the students and families. There will be regular updates in the newsletter, on the webpage, through Seesaw and further parent workshops. Very big thank you to Lucy McNamara who presented the workshop.

Huge thank you to all the families who joined in on the busy bee on Sunday! How awesome is it to see our community help and support a school community focused on sustainability! Very big thank you needs to go to Ms Samsa for organising this and to Mrs Osteberg who pitched in as well.

We have been observing, and have had a number of conversations with parents and community members extremely concerned with the driving actions of some of our parents in the carparks and around the school. Please be courteous at all times, drive carefully around these areas and observe the ‘Kiss and Drop’ rules. As a reminder, please take the time to review these on our webpage.

As part of the Department's Attendance policy, if you are taking a vacation or need leave during school time please email me to let me know at Kim.Fraser@education.wa.edu.au. As you are aware, taking vacation during school time is not supported by the Department however each family's requests are considered on a case-by-case basis and approval depends on the context of each situation. We actively encourage families to take holidays during the break times to reduce the impact on your child's learning. Information for Parents.

We have had a number of cases of flu, head lice and school sores. If your child is sick please keep them home and let us know of contagious health issues so we can safeguard it from spreading.

Have a great weekend!

NAPLAN 2024

Three down, one to go!

A huge congratulations on the positive way the students and teachers (and parents) have tackled the NAPLAN season this year! While we still have one assessment to complete on Monday (along with a few catch-up sessions), the positive attitudes and willingness of our Churchlands students to relax, while applying their best efforts has been brilliant to see. Please commend your child/ren if they have sat the assessments so far this year and hopefully they can enjoy a good rest on the weekend before finishing strongly next week.

Just as a reminder, Monday morning will see our students in year 3 and 5 complete the Numeracy assessment. Please note that if your child has been away for any of the tests, catch-up sessions will be running in the mornings from Wednesday to Friday.

Take the Science Buddies Engineering Challenge! – Rubber Band Car | Call for recyclables

Our 2024 STEAM Calendar kicks off with the annual Engineering challenge, and this year it is a beauty! The STEAM team will be facilitating students and families to get their creative and problem-solving abilities in full swing as part of the RUBBER BAND CAR challenge.

This year, we would love siblings and families to also participate from home. Following the guidelines and information provided below, families are encouraged to source the allowed materials and get building and testing! Coinciding with the week 9, in-school competitions, we will run our Community Cup division – where family entries will be run and raced against each other in search of the best CPS Rubber Band Car!
