ZIG ZAG Public School

Term 2 Week 10

Principals report

As we come to the end of Term 2, I want to thank all families for your continued support throughout a busy and rewarding term. Semester One reports were sent home in Week 9, and it was lovely to see so many parents take the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher during this week’s Parent/Teacher interviews. These important conversations help strengthen the partnership between home and school to support each student’s growth.

As part of our ongoing communication with families, updated Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) are now available in your School Bytes portal under the “Resources” tab. Teachers have reviewed and updated every student’s Fluency goals and provided feedback. In addition, new Sentence Syntax goals have been set for Semester Two to continue our strong focus on literacy development.

We invite you to share your feedback on school reports by completing our short survey which will come to you via email from School bytes.

We’ve also had some exciting highlights to finish off the term. Our boys’ football game against Wallerawang was a proud moment for the school. They have trained hard for this long-awaited match and did not disappoint. Their sportsmanship, teamwork, and determination made Mr Gray a very happy coach!

Our recent STEAM Day was another fantastic success. Working in Peer Support groups is always a highlight at our school, and it was wonderful to see students collaborating and problem-solving across year levels.

I'd like to give a big SHOUT OUT to our hard working P & C. Thank you for a wonderful Trivia night and for providing canteen for our students.

With so many positive examples of learning and behaviour, it’s no surprise that the whole school earned today’s Ziggle Tickets reward. A well-deserved celebration to end a great term!

Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing holiday break.

Warm regards,

Vicki Gillmore

Principal

Around the School

Athletics Fun

We love our whole school carnivals!

We caught up on the fun activities we missed last week — with help from our amazing big buddies.

ZZPS Athletics Carnival is not complete without our iconic Year 6 Dress-Up Race!

Cheered on by the entire school, it’s always a hilarious and much-loved highlight of the day.

The day ended with a delicious sausage sandwich, thanks to our wonderful P&C mums.

Such a fun time was had by all!

Netball Schools Cup

Our enthusiastic netball players had a fantastic day in Bathurst!

They not only fine-tuned their netball skills, but also had lots of fun and made us incredibly proud with their outstanding sportsmanship and determination to give it their all.

A huge thank you to Kirsty Thompson for umpiring every game — we truly appreciate your support!

Spelling Bee

Congratulations to all our amazing participants who took part in our annual Spelling Bee — from the first brave round to the final word, you showed courage, focus and fantastic sportsmanship.

Congratulations to all our Spelling Bee runners up and finalists.

Big congratulations to Theo and Toby who will be representing Zig Zag at the Premier’s Spelling Bee Regional Competition next term.

A big thank you to our student helpers who assisted with the smooth running of our event by timekeeping and announcing all the participants.

We’re so proud of you all.

ZZPS Dance Group

Well done to our ZZPS dancers.

You looked amazing. Danced perfectly and had such a Good Time.

Thank you to Mrs Wood and Mrs Doran for providing such a wonderful experience for our students.

Thank you to our families for supporting this activity and for coming to watch your children shine on stage.

We are all so very proud of them.

We’re still buzzing with excitement as we look back at all the incredible moments captured from the Bathurst Dance Festival. Our talented dancers truly lit up the stage with confidence, creativity and joy!

A massive thank you to Mrs Abby O’Neil for her unwavering dedication, support and choreography brilliance. From refining routines to perfecting every step and beat, Abby brought out the best in every performer during each and every practice.

Thank you, Abby, for your time, energy and passion.

Steam Challenge

Our STEAM Challenge had our students thinking big – and building even bigger!

The task: Build the tallest freestanding tower capable of balancing a marshmallow on top.

The twist? Only 20 minutes to complete the task using just: Dry pasta String Tape

Our students dove into the challenge with enthusiasm – planning strategically, using their unique strengths, and working together as cohesive teams. It was incredible to see collaboration, critical thinking and creativity in action!Every team managed to construct a tower (some wobbly, some winning!) within the time frame – proving just how clever and capable our students are.

Well done to all involved – challenges like this are a great way to spot and support High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) talents!

Responsible Pet Ownership

Our K-2 students were lucky to receive a visit from the Responsible Pet Ownership Program—with a very special guest: Sherlock the dog!

Through engaging role play and clear messaging our students learned how to safely approach and care for pets and what it means to be a responsible pet owner.

Sherlock was a hit with the children and helped deliver an important message with plenty of tail wags and pats.

Payments can be made via cash to the office or EFT is also available (the details are on the order form).

Orders must be in by 1 August and the date for collection will be 21 August, times to be confirmed.

Next Meeting

We’d love to see some new faces and are keen to hear anyone’s ideas on fundraising opportunities etc. Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday 7 August, 3pm in the school canteen. We hope to see you there.

The P & C hope everyone enjoys the holiday break and are keen to see everyone for term 3.

Thank you

Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!

To Family First Credit Union Lithgow for their generous support!

Each year, Family First gives back to the community through grants that help make our region a better place — and ZZPS are so grateful to be one of this year’s recipients!

A big thank you also to our amazing P&C Committee who applied for the grant. This donation will go towards making improvements to our school playground — creating a better space for our students to learn, play and grow.
