Principal's Updates

Executive Director's Recognition Award

I am thrilled to announce that the Rydalmere Public School Executive Team has been honoured with the Executive Director's Recognition Award Metropolitan North for school improvement and excellence. This recognition celebrates the significant improvements made in our school and our commitment to providing high-quality education for all students in our school. The award highlights the innovative initiatives and collaborative efforts led by our executive team, which have directly contributed to enhancing student learning outcomes. Over the past year, we have implemented targeted programs that focus on student engagement, explicit teaching, curriculum development and teacher professional learning. These initiatives have resulted in improved academic outcomes, increased student attendance and participation, and overall, a more positive school environment. We have also strengthened our partnerships with families and the community, ensuring that we support our students both inside and outside the classroom. These efforts have created a more inclusive and supportive atmosphere for all learners.

Congratulations to Mrs Colotouros, Mrs Rana, Ms Taylor and Mrs Townsend for this well-deserved recognition.

Semester 1 Student Reports

Semester 1 student reports have been sent home on Thursday. These reports provide valuable insights into your child’s progress and achievements this term. We encourage you to take the time to review them together with your child and celebrate their accomplishments. Additionally, we are pleased to announce that there will be an opportunity for you to meet with your child’s teachers during parent teacher interviews early next term. This is a wonderful chance to discuss your child’s progress, ask questions, and collaborate on ways to support their learning journey. Further details regarding the scheduling of these interviews will be shared soon. We look forward to your participation and appreciate your continued support in your child’s education.

Hot Chocolate Fundraiser & Our Wonderful Year 6 Helpers

This term, our hot chocolate fundraiser has been a warm and delicious success, brightening up many chilly mornings! Thanks to the incredible support from our school community, we have raised $335 so far.

We would especially like to acknowledge our dedicated Year 6 students who have arrived early each week, often by 8:30am, to help set up and sell hot chocolates. Their enthusiasm, responsibility and teamwork have been outstanding, and they’ve played a key role in making this fundraiser such a positive experience for everyone.

Thank you to all the families who have supported this initiative. Your contributions make a real difference to our school!

ICAS Competitions – Registration Now Open!

Within our school community, we have many students who shine brightly, demonstrating dedication and academic talent. This year, we are excited to give them the opportunity to showcase and celebrate their abilities by taking part in the world-renowned ICAS competitions.

What is ICAS? ICAS is an online academic competition that challenges students’ higher order thinking and problem-solving skills across a range of subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling Bee, and Digital Technologies.

ICAS results are meaningful and provide insights into your child’s strengths and areas for growth, comparing their performance with students across the state and nation. Each participant receives a printed certificate for every subject entered and an online report to track progress over time. Top achievers may also be awarded an ICAS medal.

How to register Parents can register and pay directly through the ICAS Parent Portal until Monday 28 July at 11:59pm. Please note: we are unable to process refunds or changes once registrations have been completed, as all payments go directly to ICAS Assessments.

Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition

Congratulations to our talented students who recently represented Rydalmere PS as finalists in the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition held at Epping West PS.

We are very proud of Noah and Ben, who represented our school in the Stage 2 division, and Marcus and Daniel, who competed in the Stage 3 division. All four boys did a fantastic job showcasing their speaking skills and confidence.

A special thank you to Ben’s mum for kindly taking photos of the boys on the day, capturing these memorable moments.

Well done to our wonderful students for being such impressive ambassadors for our school!

Check-in assessments next term

Next term, our students will take part in the Check-in assessment program — an annual assessment for all students in Years 3 to 9 across NSW public schools.

All students will complete an online reading and numeracy test, each with approximately 50 questions. In addition, our Year 6 students will complete a writing assessment.

These assessments help us identify students’ strengths and areas for growth in literacy and numeracy, and inform our next steps in teaching and learning. The feedback we receive is linked to the NSW syllabuses, National Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions, and includes targeted teaching strategies.

For more information about the Check-in assessment, you can visit the Check-in assessment page

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

P&C Report

And just like that, that’s a wrap on Term 2! We hope you have a restful and enjoyable break.

Before we head off on the School Holidays, we wanted to let you know that our first Colour Run planning meeting will be held early in Term 3, away from the general meeting in Week 3.

If you’d like to be a part of planning this exciting event (our major fundraiser for 2025!), please reach out to secretary@rps-pandc.org.au to be added to the first planning meeting. The precise date and time are still to be confirmed, but we’ll send out a calendar hold once confirmed.

Related to this, the following two planning roles are still to be allocated to enthusiastic volunteers – if you are interested in taking on either of these roles, email secretary@rps-pandc.org.au.

Course and Operations Coordinator

To manage all physical and operational aspects of the event, with a primary focus on safety.

  • Identifies materials needed for the course when designing the course, ensures all materials are sourced well in advance of set-up of course.
  • Helps to source the physical equipment (tables, chairs, BBQ, music system, and lighting if needed).
  • Conducts a full risk assessment and liaises with the First Aid provider.
  • Plans the layout for stalls, registration, and the start/finish line.
  • On event day: Manages course setup and pack-down, ensures lighting is working, and oversees safety on the course.

Promotions and Communications Coordinator

To generate excitement and share all necessary information about the event with participants and the community.

  • Creates posters, flyers, and social media content.
  • Sends out regular updates to registered participants and the school community.
  • Liaises with any local media.
  • On event day: Takes photos/videos for social media and acts as an information point.

Early in Term 4, we’ll be asking for volunteers to help us at the Colour Run itself. Full details will be shared in due course, but examples of volunteer roles include:

  • Registration & Check-in
  • Course Marshals
  • Colour Station
  • Water Station
  • First Aid
  • BBQ cooking and serving
  • Clean-Up

Canteen Volunteers

We’re still looking for volunteers to help with the running of our canteen and to expand our volunteer base more generally. Without the support of parents, carers and community members, we would not be able to provide the canteen service for our students and staff at RPS.

Please complete the volunteer expression of interest via the online form https://forms.office.com/r/H9yge1rjEw or email canteen@rps-pandc.org.au.

Next meeting

Our next meeting will be held in Week 3 of Term 3 – Monday 4 August at 7:00 PM in the School Library. If you would prefer to join via Teams, that is also an option by clicking the link below and entering Meeting ID/Passcode.
