TERM 4 WEEK 4, 2023

A Message from the Principal

Dear parents/carers,

Last week we held the first of our Kindergarten Orientations. We hold the orientations to familiarise incoming Kindergarten students with the school and staff. Research tell us that effective transitions to school support more effective long term  outcomes for students. We also get to know the new Kindergarten students and assists us to plan for varied student needs. After orientation further planning and supports will assist new Kindergarten students to commence school. We will also hold an orientation meeting for preschoolers and a special transition session to support enrolment.

Last week we received the 2024 school budget. Good news is that we have had a doubling in EAL/D (English as an Additional Language /Dialect)  staffing allocation.  This will enable us to target more programs to support the needs of these children. We have also  had a reduction in funding in a few other areas due to changes in the way funds are allocated.

regards

Gabrielle Buczynski

Preschool

Farm Life

This term preschool have been learning about farms, what they produce, farm animals, and the various jobs the farmers have to do on the farm. Our preschool children have been involved in a variety of activities including art/craft, dress ups, reading, drawing, painting, farm play experiences and role playing with puppets. Children were involved in painting and making a large farm mural for our room. These experiences help children interact with their peers, build their fine motor skills, build their language skills as they learn in a fun and engaging way.

Our preschool children selected which animals they wanted to make and enjoyed helping to co-construct our farm animals from recycled materials. When children's voices are heard and they help make resources, it makes them engage in the experiences with more enthusiasm, and makes them feel important and part of the preschool program.

Field of Mars Excursion

This term students in Stage 1 have been learning about Living Things. Last Monday, Stage 1 students visited the ‘Field of Mars’ nature reserve at Ryde and became bush rangers for the day. Students hiked through the reserve, observed animals in their habitats and made their own insect hotel. They had lots of fun!

Kind regards,

Why Is Attendance at School Important?

Regular attendance at school is important for students at our school to reach their full potential.

We want to do all we can to be sure your child achieves their potential and enjoys being in school. One way we can help make this happen is to be sure your child attends school each day unless they are sick, have COVID symptoms or are absent for a justified reason.

Protecting the wellbeing of our students through the reporting and monitoring of student absences is the responsibility of both parents/carers and schools. Notifying the school either before or on the day that your child is away helps us keep accurate student attendance records to support you and your child.

We know that school is the best place to learn and regular attendance means students can stay on top of their schoolwork and get the most out of their learning. If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.

Missing a day here or there may not seem like much but absences add up and can impact your child’s learning more than you think. When your child misses one day a week over a year, that’s 40 days of school, 8 weeks of lessons and 2.5 years over their school life lost.
