Principal's Message

Dear Community

This week I would like to start by acknowledging our amazing staff, who despite the additional pressure of having to pack up the school ready to move at the end of the year, have continued to strive to provide some fantastic learning opportunities for our students. For those of you that follow us on social media, you will have seen pictures from experiences such as a messy play afternoon, a visit from a koala and an excursion to the zoo. Activities such as these take extra planning and work from our teachers, so if you get the chance to express your gratitude to them, please do!

Community Breakfast

Next week on Friday morning before school is the annual Your Move Community Breakfast!

Please, where possible, take active travel to school, car pool, take the bus or park and walk, then come and celebrate and enjoy a delicious Your Move breakfast. Food this year will be provided by Coles, Brighton Road Market, Brighton Bakery and Harvest Bakery. There will be a coffee van to buy a beverage to help wash down the delicious food.

We are serving food from 8:00 am to 8:35 am outside the library and the coffee van will be on Hinderwell Street outside Room 9.

Thanks must go to Mrs Cooke and our wonderful chaplain Nikki Harvey for once again organising this event.

Capital Works

Things are progressing on a daily basis now, with staff and students noticing changes just about every morning. We are well on track for a handover date in mid January.

Over the next few weeks, you can expect to see:

  • stair balustrades and art screens going up
  • cabinetwork
  • windows & door frames being installed
  • external concreting
  • painting continuing
  • retic & landscaping commencing

Finally, a reminder that the last day for students will be on Wednesday 13 December to allow staff 2 days at the end of term to prepare for the move.

2024 Planning

Planning for 2024 is now well underway. Our enrolment numbers for next year are still fluctuating almost daily, so as per usual classes won’t be finalised until the new year. However, if there are any factors that you would like us to consider in regards to your child, please send me an email or make an appointment to talk with me in person or over the phone.

Out of Hours School Care

We have been working with Camp Australia, our new providers over the past fortnight to finalise the new deed of licence. They will be holding a parent information session at 5:00 pm on Thursday 23 November in the art room for anyone who would like to come along to find out more about them and the services they will be providing. Please see the flyer below for more information.

As always, if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to call, or email me on Sarah.Dawson@education.wa.edu.au.

Voluntary Contributions

A big thank you to all families who have already paid their contributions. Your family’s contribution will go directly towards the purchase of resources and consumables needed in the provision of learning program activities.

Salvation Army Christmas Appeal

We all know Christmas is a time for joy. But for those doing it tough – it is often challenging, heart breaking and isolating. Last Christmas, The Salvation Army provided around over 64,000 hampers as well as 26,000 gifts to individuals and families in need. As cost of living increases continue to impact communities across the country, our support is more important now than ever. Scarborough PS is holding its annual food and gift drive again this year to help The Salvation Army make sure no one is left in need this festive season.

Please donate new items only and place them unwrapped under the Christmas tree in the front office. We will be collecting items from now until the last Tuesday of term. Any queries, please see the office, or email Chaplain Nikki on nicola.harvey@education.wa.edu.au

P&C News

Hello SPS families. Please see below for a short update from the P&C.

2024 Planning Afternoon - please note time change

Just a reminder that we are holding a planning afternoon for 2024 on Sunday the 26 November at 1:30 pm at Beecroft Park, City Beach. It would be lovely to see some new faces and hear some fresh ideas! If you are unable to make it but have some suggestions, don’t hesitate in emailing us on the details below. Kids are welcome.

NEXT MEETING

Our final General Meeting for 2023 will be held Tuesday 21 November 2023 at 6:30 pm in the school library. It is a great opportunity to find out what is happening, make suggestions and get an update on the progress of the new build. All welcome, we would love to see you there.

If you would like to be added to our mailing list to receive the agenda and minutes for our meetings, or have a suggestion, send us an email - scarboroughprimarypc@gmail.com.

If you have any unwanted items, please donate them to the uniform shop on Wednesday mornings, or to the office during school hours.

Order forms can be downloaded from the school website https://scarboroughps.wa.edu.au/p-c/uniforms/

Emailed orders will be delivered to your child’s classroom or left at the office for collection. Please indicate on the form.

CANTEEN

We have a need for some new volunteers in the canteen for 2024. You would be required to help a couple of Friday mornings each term from 9:30 am - 11:30 am and Laura, our wonderful Canteen Leader, can show you the ropes. The best part is, on your volunteer days, your children will get a free lunch order! If you would like to help out, please get in contact with Laura or Teneke (Canteen Coordinator), or email the P&C.

Please note that all canteen orders need to be placed via QuickCliq prior to 8:30 am on Friday. If you forget to order by 8:30 am, please organise your child’s lunch from home or elsewhere.

ENTERTAINMENT BOOK

We continue to fundraise through the Entertainment Book. When you purchase the Entertainment Book, a portion will go to the P&C.

Order your membership here https://www.entertainment.com.au/orderbooks/86y129

CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE

We have received a large number of green hessian Containers for Change bags. If you would like one for your family, please collect one from the front office. Happy collecting!

We will continue to fundraise through the Containers for Change initiative. The Containers for Change bins can be found at the school entry at Hinderwell Street near the Room 9 Heritage Building. Keep on bringing those empty cans and bottles to support the P&C!

Alternatively, if you wish to donate at a refund point of your choosing you can quote our Scheme ID C10284773. If you prefer to attend a Reverse Vending Machine location, please use the barcode at the top of the P&C news. This may be your preference if you have a larger donation and be rest assured that the money goes back to the P&C.
