Week 11 – Term 1, 2024

Message From The Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

We’ve nearly made it to the end of Term 1. The finish line is in sight, and I have a sneaking suspicion that I won’t be the only one crawling to the finish line, come Friday afternoon. It was fabulous to see so many enjoying our Easter Hat Parade and engaging in our Fathering Project STEM challenge.

Generally, first term is one where students settle in, and teachers establish learning needs and programs accordingly. It has been a testament to all that our students have transitioned readily into their learning and great progress is underway.

I have a great respect for our classroom teachers. They take their role and responsibilities very seriously and continue to inspire, engage and challenge our children every day. We are so lucky to have such a dedicated group of professionals working with our children, and I thank them for their support over the term. I wish all our families a restful and relaxing holiday break and safe travels to those going away over the holiday period.

All students return to school for Term 2 on Tuesday 30 April.

CYBER SAFETY

Over the holidays some children will be spending much more time on computers. It may be a good time to reinforce the rules you have for safe computer use at home. Sometimes it is easy to forget how young they are and how we need to protect them from the not so desirable aspects of our society.

As a family, set some expectations on how much time your child should spend online. What are some of the things they should be doing online to be creative and productive? Balance this time with physical activity and time spent outdoors.

ANZAC MARCH

I hope to see many students representing our school in the ANZAC March on Thursday 25 April. Students are to meet in the covered carpark behind Wingham Services Club, under the sails at 9am. The march to Wingham Memorial Town Hall starts at 9:15am. Students are to wear full school uniform, including hats. If your child is in the choir performing at the service they will have received a note today with the details. Students in the choir are to wear their choir shirts that will be provided on Thursday, in the march.

ATTENDANCE

Every assembly this term, students with 100% attendance in the previous two weeks have been celebrated and their names have been added to our end or term “Attendance Draw’. This will be drawn on Friday morning, with multiple prizes to be won across the school.

Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up. Everyday matters and we are here to support all students in attending and engaging with their learning every day of the term.

We will be working with you to keep you updated on your child’s attendance by sending out letters at key points to inform you of your child’s attendance should it go below 95% and to invite you in to find ways to work together to support your child’s attendance.

Cross Country

Our Cross Country that was scheduled for today, Wednesday 10 April has been postponed due to the weather conditions.

The new date for this event will be this Friday 12 April. A time will be advised as soon as possible.

Building Rekenreks

Some students have been assisting with the building of rekenreks. A rekenrek is like an abacus. Older students are making over 100 of them so that our younger students are able to learn addition and subtraction strategies. One of the first missions was to separate over 4000 little beads into their colour groups.

Banana Bounty

It was a long wait, but it was worth it. Our bananas are ready! The banana tree was kindly donated by the Fussell family and it proudly grew this fantastic bunch of bananas. Students have been waiting patiently for them to ripen. Time to reap the rewards with these tasty, sweet treats. They have been enjoyed at morning breakfasts. Sadly the original tree is now cut down (that is what you have to do!) but it has sprouted 'pup' plants for our next harvest.
