Congratulations to Mrs Crees and her team of champions. All competitors did their personal best and produced some amazing individual results on Wednesday. Thank you once again to our parent volunteers and especially Mrs Crees on her preparation for the carnival.
Selected Performing Arts students will be representing St Mary’s on Monday at Berringa at 10.30am. This will be a lovely opportunity to present some musical items for the local residents. Special thanks to Mrs Silver who has been working hard in preparation for the event.
A reminder that the P&F meeting has been moved to next Monday the 30th of March at 7pm. All are welcome to attend.
This Sunday is Palm Sunday. It marks the start of Holy Week. It commemorates Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where crowds greeted him by waving palm branches and laying cloaks on the road. This event symbolizes his role as a peaceful king. All are welcome to attend Mass.
As the Merredin Show has been cancelled, we have arranged the children’s art and displayed it in the Hall. Please feel free to wander in at your leisure and look at the wonderful work that is happening in our classes.
Please remember that our winter uniform is required to be worn in Term Two and Three. Our uniform shop will be open this Wednesday morning for you to stock up on all your winter unform supplies ready for next term. Alternatively, you can pop your order through Quickcliq before Wednesday and we can send your orders home with you child/children.
God Bless

On Wednesday, selected year 3-6 students took part in the Interschool Swimming Carnival against Central Wheatbelt and Merredin College. While the weather was far from ideal, with chilly and windy conditions throughout the day, this didn’t dampen the spirits of our swimmers. Students showed great resilience in braving the cold and should be commended for their enthusiasm and determination.
The carnival featured some very tight competition across all events, with many impressive performances and excellent times recorded. It was fantastic to see students giving their all and supporting one another throughout the day.
A huge thank you must go to Central Wheatbelt for their commitment in making the journey to Merredin, as well as to all our parent helpers whose support ensured the carnival ran smoothly.
Congratulations to St Mary’s, who were victorious on the day with a huge 483 points, Central Wheatbelt finished in second place on 385 points, Merredin College placing third on 231 points.
Well done to all students involved for representing their schools with pride, and special mention to the following individual award winners.

What a term! We have had heaps of fun in Performing Arts so far 🎶
Pre Primary
From learning the difference between speaking voices, singing voices and shouting voices to learning to follow a rhythm and clap a beat… what haven’t our little superstars done? This term has been lots of learning about fast and slow music, different sounds that come from instruments and how to play ‘Hot Cross Buns’ on the keyboard 🎹
Year 1/2
If this class doesn’t grow up to become famous musicians, we will be shocked! Finding the beat is their superpower and singing in tune together is their magic. We have been learning to play different pitches on a range of instruments and LOVING as many call and response songs we can find! Our focus song on the keyboard is ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’ and ‘Baby Shark’ 🐑🦈
Year 2/3
Arguably the most enthusiastic class in Performing Arts has rocked everything they have learnt this term! We have learnt how to read and use standard notation and can play the coolest rhythm round with so many instruments. It has been so much fun learning how different instruments make sound and how to play ‘Baby Shark’ and ‘Oh When the Saints’ on keyboard.
Year 4/5
You can ask anyone in this amazing class to show you the iconic ‘Boom Snap Clap’ or ‘Cup Song’ and they will blow you away! We mastered keeping a beat faster than you can blink and moved right into exploring the dynamics of songs. Some were shocked to hear Happy birthday played in a Minor Key (instead of the usual Major key), which lead us to discovering songs in the Minor key is used in sad or scary parts of movies. Lots of hard work and practise on the keyboard has resulted in us playing ‘BINGO’ and ‘Are You Sleeping’ beautifully!
Year 6
It is actually sad this is the last year we have these incredible students in the Performing Arts room! They bring their best effort and dedication to every task and are now leading the school in all things music. We have explored different instruments and songs in high and low pitches, changing tempos and finding and creating texture in songs. Our favourite task this term has been looking at at different pop artists and how they use acoustic and electronic sounds in their song and concerts! We were so invested in this we wanted to discover what artists wrote songs for other artists and found we could still hear their musical styles in the songs they wrote. We then had a go creating our own songs using GarageBand, ensuring we had a bass, a strong beat, a melody and a range of different instruments to build a musical masterpiece! And to top it all off, we have learnt all the songs on keyboard and landed on ‘I Gotta Feeling’ and ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’!
After a great rest over the holidays, the Performing Arts room cannot wait to have everyone back to master our musical skills and get started on producing some future actors & actress’ with Drama 🎭
