St Joseph's Catholic Primary School Wandal Newsletter

29 November 2023

Bernadette Brennan - Principal

The end of the school year is always a challenging time, yet it is filled with hope too. Everyone is getting tired from the busy year that has gone before us, and then we fill this part of the year with numerous events to celebrate another year's passing. It’s a time to say farewell to Miss Bridget Fox who has been great contributor to our community and a time to say goodbye to our Year Six students and wish them well for their futures. Along with these students, we acknowledge the families that will no longer be doing drop-offs and pick-ups at St Joseph’s as it’s time for their child to move on from this school. All those leaving have shared in some part of the life of St Joseph’s and contributed to the culture that exists. We appreciate their contributions and hope they continue with zeal into the future.

I wish everyone joy and blessings this Christmas and look forward to seeing everyone return safely in 2024.

Children’s Sacramental Program

Catholic Community of Rockhampton

The 2024 program will span from January to May.

A copy of the timeline is on our website.

https://sites.google.com/rok.catholic.edu.au/sacramental-program/home

Confirmation and First Holy Communion will be celebrated on 18/19 May and 25/26 May, 2024.

Eligibility

Children must be baptised Catholics who are at least nine (9) years of age during the year.

What if a child is not a baptised Catholic?

  • Children aged between seven and twelve years who are not baptised Catholics prepare for the celebration for the Sacraments through a different process called The Rite of Christian Initiation for Children of Catechetical Age (RCICCA). Gail Davis is the co-ordinator and she can assist with enquiries.
  • If a child has been baptised in another Christian denomination, he/she does not have to be baptised again. Instead, a Rite of Welcome is celebrated. He/She is eligible for this program.
  •

    What next?

Parents are invited to a Parent Information Night. At least one parent/carer should attend.

Parent Information Nights will be held on Tuesday, 30 January (at Holy Family Church) and Thursday, 01 February (at St Joseph’s Catholic School, Wandal) – 5:30pm-6:30pm.

Attendance at one of these nights is essential  in order to find out what is involved in the preparation process.

No late enrolments will be accepted after the Parent Information Nights.

    Thank you

    Thank you, Parents and Caregivers,

Wow!  Another academic year is almost over!  I would like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to all of you.

Thank you for having confidence in us, allowing us to help your children grow as learners and as humans.

Thank you for helping us to develop our learning dispositions of resilience, resourcefulness, responsibility, reasonableness, reflection, and respect.

Thank you for your unfailing support - for the teams you coached, for the events you attended and for the posts you liked.

Thank you for the homework you supervised, the learning goals you helped us to monitor and the successes you helped us celebrate.

Thank you.  For those of you who are about to end your association with us, don’t be a stranger.  For those of you continuing with us in 2024, let’s do this all again!

Thank you to our teachers and support staff.

The 2023 year is almost over, but before it is, I would like to thank all the amazing staff here at Wandal who have done such an outstanding job.

Thanks to the teachers and other members of the leadership team for the care, planning, dedication, humour and excellence you have shown throughout another hectic year.

Thank you to the support staff (teacher assistants, secretaries, library and IT staff, tuckshop, cleaners, grounds people and everyone else who I have accidentally forgotten!  Thank you for all the things, big and small, that have helped to make Wandal fabulous.

I wish those of you not continuing with us well and look forward to all that 2024 will bring each of us.

    Merry Christmas!

Finally, to the amazing students here at St Joseph’s Wandal.

Thank you for your enthusiasm, the way you worked hard each day, the way you cared for each other and the way you accepted the challenges that 2023 brought you way.

For those of you leaving us, goodbye and good luck.  Enjoy your new adventures!

    Have a lovely break,

    Janette
