Principal's Report

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the last week of Term! We are right in the middle of one of the busiest times of our school year and it is important to balance all of the rush and excitement with time to recharge and to look after ourselves. We finish school on Friday at 2:30PM, everyone has earned a well-deserved break!

It was absolutely fantastic to finally perform Wingding Jamboree in front of a live audience last night. The students were absolutely brilliant and put on an amazing show. The applause, laughter and emotional connection the students received from the live audience had them absolutely buzzing this morning when we reflected on the performance. We can’t wait to share it with all of you in the coming week.

Looking ahead to next term and we have our second week of the Intensive Swimming Program in week 1. Starting on October the 2nd and finishing up on Friday the 6th, students will be heading down to the Gisborne swimming pool each day and developing lifesaving swimming skills. Friday’s lesson will include games and time on the inflatable obstacle course – everyone’s favourite day of the program! Please jump onto QKR! if you have not already done so to provide permission and payment for this program. We need this completed before this coming Thursday. If you are going to be away that week could you please let your child's teacher know.

We had a number of students participate in the Division Athletics Championships last week and saw two students come first in their events. Pearl (Grade 4) came first in the 800m event and Moser (Grade5) came first in the 800m and 1500m events. Both go through to the Regional Championships. Well done!

We are going to be holding a Working Bee on Wednesday the 11th of October, after school from 3:30PM to 5:30PM. Working Bees are absolutely vital in helping schools maintain grounds and keeping our play and learning environments beautiful and places we want to spend time in. We are putting together a list of jobs that need to be completed that will be communicated below in this newsletter. FOS are also organising a sausage sizzle for the afternoon.

To finish off a busy term the Grade 5/6 students are going on a Wellbeing Bushwalk up to the top of Mount Towrong. This is to support the Social and Emotional Learning program being undertaken in their classroom. Taking time to reconnect and recharge after such a busy term is so important in maintaining wellbeing and will give the students the chance to reflect on the learning they have done this term.

We finish this report with an update from Trish! Mrs Hyland came to see our final dress rehearsal for Production yesterday and was blown away by the performances. She is onsite often, helping with the ongoing running of the school and is very keen to get back on site fulltime. The plan is for Mrs Hyland to continue with some rehab and strength building exercises and be back at MMPS from partway through next term. I spoke with her today and she mentioned how hard it is being away from school and how she is working hard to get back here as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Joe.

Episode 3 - to be released this Friday 18th September

THIS WEEK IN DIGITECH, as it was our last session for the term this week with the Junior students, I decided to teach them super boring - how networks and servers work, Yes, exciting I know - but here is the catch, we did it using Minecraft Education. We talked (and I drew my very best 'cursed with being a left-hander whiteboard diagram') about how data is transferred over networks and how servers receive that data and send it to other devices on a network. Then, I created a private Minecraft server and students had to access it (across our school network) using a password. Trust me, it all made sense - oh, and then, of course, we played a game of hide and seek where students had to find my (very dapper) Minecraft avatar hiding somewhere in the world. Through all the laughing and screaming I'm sure I heard just a little bit of learning... Have a good break. Mr. Garcia
