October 2023, Term 4 Week 1

A Message from the Principal

Many of you may already know that the school has had several Red Belly Black snake sightings. Authorities have reported that this coming season will see more snakes than usual.

In response to the sighting on the school site we have undertaken the following:

  • Clearance of the northern section of the gully
  • Removal of stored timber under buildings
  • Maintenance of grass
  • Removal of water sources

Students have been asked to put all litter into bins and to not discard clothing onto the ground. Instead, they can tie the clothing around their waist or ask a teacher to hold it. Until further notice Fairy Garden Play has been suspended. Additionally, the school is placing shade cloth under all storm water drain grates and will seal door entries at the close of the day. When we sight and track a snake the snake catcher is immediately contacted to retrieve and re-home the snake.

We are in contact with pest control and waiting on advice for further control measures. We would also caution our families when using Federal Park as sighting have been made there.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school for any further information. Student safety is our priority, and all care is being taken to keep them informed on how to be safe and responsible.

Now the weather is warming up, we are starting to see some very red and hot faces when the students come in after lunch. Students without hats will spend their play time under the COLA instead of in the gully, please check there is a hat in your child's bag each morning. We also ask you ensure your child has a drink bottle they are able to refill throughout the day.

Day for Daniel

This year we will be supporting Day for Daniel we will be discussing with classes the importance of safety. Friday 27th October we ask all students and staff to wear red and have a gold coin donation.

What is Day for Daniel? Day for Daniel is Australia’s largest day of action to raise awareness for child safety, protection, and harm prevention. Held annually on the last Friday of October, Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe. The theme is ‘Wear Red, Educate and Donate’. Day for Daniel is the Daniel Morcombe Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of  the year. Fundraising helps continue free education programs, resource development and support for young victims of crime. As a school we will be using some of these resources to teach our children about safety.
