Relieving Principal's Update

Welcome back to Term 2

I hope all of our RPS families had a wonderful and relaxing break. This term many exciting experiences have been planned such as the Premier’s Spelling Bee, Multicultural Public Speaking Competition, cross country carnival, Winter PSSA competition, Mother’s Day Stall and a variety of excursions for each stage group.

Harmony Day Celebrations

Harmony Day Celebration @RPS

Yesterday was a wonderful celebration of the cultural diversity in our school with the annual RPS Harmony Day celebration. The majority of students wore orange or traditional costume from their culture. The morning began with the RPS Band brilliantly performing two items. Then each class had their turn to parade around the COLA and share their cultural heritage, the school was led our special guest Alicia who was able to educate the school about Hindi culture and taught of us some Bollywood dance moves! It was a fantastic day which continued with a variety of Harmony Day activities in the classrooms.

Thank you to Mrs Green Mrs Kouros, Mrs Srinivasan, Miss Mo and Miss Masmanidis for their organisation of the day.

Staff Development Day

On Monday our school joined all other public schools across NSW to deliver professional learning focused on the implementation of the new curriculum. School development days are used by schools to build on the knowledge and skills of our teachers, school leaders and school administrative support staff through a targeted professional learning program. Our day focused on the English teaching and learning cycle, purposeful assessment and adapting multi-age units for small schools. Thank you to Mrs Ranna, Mrs Taylor and Mrs Arnott for presenting and leading their sessions.

Miss Mo and Mrs Skirde joined our local network of preschools which included Yates Avenue and Rydalmere East for a day of professional learning focussing on preschool modules.

ANZAC Day

I hope everyone had an opportunity during the school holidays to reflect on the significance of ANZAC Day and pay tribute to our military servicemen and women who have served, and are currently serving our country. Thank you to our school leaders for leading the school ceremony, and to Mrs Kenworthy, Mrs Skirde and Miss Stumberger for organising the ceremony.

Iftar Dinner

Term 1 ended with a wonderful Iftar Dinner celebration. It was fabulous to see so many members of the community attend the school’s first Iftar Dinner. Thank you to everyone who generously brought food to share that evening. A big thank you to Mrs Rana, Mrs Colotouros and Mrs Srinivasan for coordinating the evening. Photographs from the evening can be view on the Rydalmere Public School facebook page.

Congratulations Mrs James and Mrs Townsend

I am delighted to share with the school community that both wonderful teachers have new additions to their families. Mrs James welcomed Lucas and Mrs Townsend welcomed Bronte. We wish both growing families all the very best and enjoy these precious moments.

Have a wonderful term everyone.

Regards,

Mr Yee

From the Office

RPS Preschool Enrolments for 2025 are now open.

General Guidelines

Public preschools enrol children for one year only, the year before they start school.  Children can enrol from the beginning of the school year if they turn four years of age before 31 July that year.

Priority is given to:

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander children
  • children living in low socio-economic circumstances
  • children who are unable to access other early childhood settings due to financial hardship
The Principal will then offer enrolment in the following order:
  • children living within the school's catchment area
  • children living outside the catchment area but have siblings at the school
  • other applicants

For further information, please go to the NSW Department of Education link below:

FREE DENTAL AND EYE SCREENINGS AT SCHOOL FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS

The Australian government has an initiative for schools to have access to mobile Dental clinic services.

NSW Dental Care is offering free dental screenings to children at Rydalmere Public School from 3rd June – 7th June.

The dental screening is free of charge for eligible students aged 2-17 and provides benefits for the child for basic dental services that includes:

·     Dental examination

·     Dental X-rays

·     Preventive Oral Care, such as oral hygiene assistance, cleaning of teeth and the application of fluoride to the teeth.

This service is provided under the Child Dental Benefits Scheme of the Australian Government.

Early detection of decay and other dental disease is vital in preventing bigger, more painful and expensive problems in the future. Left untreated, dental disease is progressive and will result in greater discomfort and is likely lead to permanent problems, such as tooth loss or lasting pain.

Attached is a link to the online consent form if you would like your child to participate. https://nswdentalcare.com.au/parental-consent-form-schools/ . Please complete this form by Friday 24th May. This falls under the Medicare – Child Dental Benefits Scheme, so parents will need to provide their Medicare number on the online consent form.

NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge

This year our school has registered to participate in the NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge. The purpose of the challenge is to encourage students to participate in sport and physical activity to lead a healthy lifestyle. Over a ten week period 30th April to 5th July  Rydalmere Public School Years K-6 will be monitoring physical activity levels during class time, at recess and lunch as well as during sport lessons. Physical activity outside school hours will also count towards the Challenge award.

THE PREMIER’S SPORTING CHALLENGE IS NOT A COMPETITON, IT’S ABOUT GETTING ACTIVE AND DOING YOUR PERSONAL BEST.

At the end of the year each student who participated and completed their logbook will receive a Premier’s Sporting Challenge Award. The award they receive will reflect the average amount physical minutes per day they achieved. See below:

  • Bronze 30 minutes of physical activity per student per day
  • Silver 45 minutes of physical activity per student per day
  • Gold 60 minutes of physical activity per student per day
  • Diamond 80 minutes of physical activity per student per day

Students completing the Challenge will receive a personalised certificate (Diamond, Gold, Silver or Bronze), signed by the Premier of New South Wales.

Physical activity is valued for its physical, social and emotional benefits. It also helps young people to develop communication skills, confidence and resilience. We would like to invite families to support us in encouraging students’ healthy use of leisure time and to experience the joy of being active together.
