A FEW WORDS FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Families,

As you know we are deeply committed to developing our students as Effective Learners of literacy and numeracy at Hallett Cove East Primary School. We are also committed to developing in all students, the self-regulation skills and social literacy skills for effective learning.

As an effective learner, in all classrooms and year levels, students are developing their ability to think creatively and act with curiosity in their learning and thinking. Students are encouraged to use their imagination, pose questions and test theories to deepen their knowledge and understanding. Students are connecting what they already know with new learning experiences as they make meaning and deepen understanding of new concepts and problems. When thinking about learning challenges, students are deciding on the best strategies to use in order to figure out, and what might be needed to successfully demonstrate their learning understanding and progress. All students are encouraged to view learning challenges with resilience and a growth mindset whilst developing the skills and behaviours required to handle different learning situations. Learning is a complex and wonderful process and our classrooms are environments full of rich learning opportunities for every student.

Teachers consider each of the domains of an effective learner in their classroom practice and task design to enhance learning experiences for all students.

This term, our staff professional development has focused on practices that support self-regulation in classrooms for every learner. Staff utilise strategies that support students’ readiness to learn, self-regulation skills and positive engagement with the classroom environment. We are very proud of our staff and students in promoting a safe and supportive learning environment for everyone at Hallett Cove East so that learning is done in a calm and productive manner.

We need you!

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our school. We truly appreciate parent contributions to the learning experiences of our students. Please consider joining our school as a volunteer. We would love your support with excursions, sports events, supporting classroom learning and whole school community events. Our next opportunity is the Clean Up Australia Day on Wednesday 26th February from 9am. Please reach out to your child’s class teacher if you are able to assist with this important community event. Hallett Cove East Primary School - Annual General Meeting

Monday 3rd March 2025 at 7pm, School Resource Centre

We extend an invitation to our community to attend our school’s AGM. We also encourage all parents to nominate for the Governing Council in 2025. Membership of Governing Council is a great way to participate in discussions about a variety of school issues, meet other parent and staff representatives and to learn how the school operates. Council meetings are held twice per term, usually in weeks 4 and 8 and you are welcome to join the meetings, either in person or online. We really value parent perspectives and are really keen to hear from you on whole school matters through our Governing Council.

Please collect a nomination form from the school’s front office.

A FEW WORDS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Dear Hallett Cove East Primary School Families,

We’d like to take a moment to thank all the students who have taken on the important role of Crossing Monitor this year. Their dedication helps ensure that our school community stays safe and secure as we navigate our busy mornings and afternoons. These students have shown great maturity and responsibility, and we are incredibly proud of the leadership they demonstrate every day. Your efforts are truly appreciated, and we thank you for making our school a safer place for everyone.

Swimming Week - Week 6

We are excited to announce that Swimming Week will take place in Week 6 for our Reception to Year 4 students. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to develop water safety skills and improve their swimming abilities. We ask that all forms be returned promptly so we can ensure that everything is ready for the week ahead.

Effective Learners in Literacy: Focused Instructional Routines

In addition to Swimming Week, we are excited to share that we have begun our explicit literacy routines across the school. These instructional practices are designed to foster effective learners and provide our students with the skills they need to thrive in reading, writing and comprehension. Our teachers are focused on ensuring that each student receives the support they need to become confident and capable learners.

We are seeing fantastic progress as our students engage in this dedicated, structured literacy time, and we’re looking forward to seeing even more growth as the term continues.

Kind regards,

Robyn Physick

Deputy Principal
