Principal’s Report

Mrs Chant

Welcome to the first newsletter of Term 3. I trust this edition finds you all safe and well.

Staffing changes

This week Nikki Gauld accepted the acting Principal position at Boonah State School and we welcome Ms Melissa Ainsworth to the acting Deputy Principal role for the remainder of the term. This term we also welcome Crystal Palliser as the Year 2C teacher. Thank you for making our new staff feel very welcome.

School start time and expectations

We start our school day at 8:35am with the learning bell at 8:40am. Upon arrival to school, all students put their bags away and go to the undercover area where supervision begins at 8:15am. Students then have the choice to play on the oval or stay in the undercover play area until the learning bell.

There should be no students running under or around school buildings before school. If you are attending before school with your child, please remind them to follow the school rules. After school our playgrounds are closed.

School Uniform

We expect all students to have a full school uniform that they wear with pride each day. This includes white socks, hair below the collar to be in a neat and tidy up style, no nail polish and a watch and one pair of stud or sleeper earrings only. Students with sensory considerations can wear an approved sensory necklace, with approval organised through our Head of Special Education, Nicole Inder.  We continue to wash unnamed lost property and hand it out to students looking for warm school uniforms to wear. We often have large amounts of lost property with no name. Can all families please double check that their child’s items are clearly named so we can return lost items to you.

P & C Sporting Scholarships

A reminder that each year the P&C offer sporting scholarships to students representing Beaudesert State School. If your child represents our school in any affiliated sport, please see the front office for a sponsorship form. The sponsorship request is then discussed at the next available P&C meeting. Copies of items for financial support always help with the application. Parents are not required to attend the P&C meeting as I will present your application on your behalf with the final decision made by the P&C executive.

Mobile Devices

This year the Queensland Government mandated that all mobile phones are to be put away for the day and are not accessible by students during school hours. At our school, per parent information handbook, students need to hand in their mobile phone to the front office team upon arrival to school and pick it up at the end of the school day. If your student is bringing a device to school, please remind them to hand it in when they arrive at school.

Upcoming Leave

I am on leave for Weeks 6 – 8 of this term and Ms Sam Birch, Deputy Principal at Bellvue Park State School, will be acting Principal during this time. She will introduce herself to you when she commences.

Have a wonderful week,

Angela

Deputy Principal Update

Miss Ainsworth

Thank you

A big thank you to the school community for making me feel welcome as I’ve transitioned into the Acting Deputy – Curriculum role whilst Miss Gauld is away. I look forward to working with the students and school community for the remainder of the term.

 Japanese study tour

I’d like to welcome Kyouai Gakuen Junior High School to our school for the week. Mrs Becerra is currently hosting the Japanese study tour and it was lovely to meet all of the students and their teachers on Tuesday afternoon. We had an official welcome on Wednesday morning, with a traditional smoking ceremony held by Miss Stacie.

Behaviour

We’ve had an increase in the number of incidents on the oval at play breaks. These incidents involve inappropriate hands-on behaviour. A reminder that we do not accept this type of behaviour at our school and students are to be safe, responsible and respectful of each other at all times.

Attendance

We started the year off well with attendance but unfortunately it has dropped off.  I understand that some students have been absent due to illness but some students are absent due to birthdays or having a shopping day, these reasons are not acceptable. Our average school attendance is sitting below 85% which means students are missing key learning opportunities. If there are barriers getting your child to school, could you please reach out and speak with your child’s class teacher or contact the school. We’d like to support parents and students to ensure attendance is a priority.

The class with the highest attendance will be having a pizza party at the end of the term. The top 10 classes are displayed in a graph every Monday on parade. Please see below for the graph to date:

Classroom Reports

Prep

What a great start we’ve had to Term 3! In English, we are learning about Information Texts, labelling animals and writing simple sentences. In Maths, we are learning the days of the week and mass. We are also enjoying learning about the needs of living things in science and special places in HASS. We have started to embark on our reading journey, borrowing decodable texts which are coming home on a Monday in our homework folders. Please remember to bring these back to the classroom each Friday.

We have some exciting days coming up – please keep an eye on the Audiri updates to know of any changes. P-2 Sports Day will be Thursday Week 7 and our Book Week Parade will be Thursday Week 8. The students can dress up as their favourite book character on this day.

Looking forward to another great term in Prep.

Your Prep Teachers 😊

Year 1

Year 1 students have settled quickly and have already had some productive weeks of learning. In English, the students have been learning how to write information reports and will be using this knowledge to create their very own information report on a jungle animal. They have been learning to incorporate headings and facts as well as diagrams into their work. In Maths, students have been exploring coins and will be learning time to the o’clock and half past, as well as learning how to solve number sentences. In Science, students have been investigating everyday materials and how these can be physically changed based on their properties. They will be using this knowledge to create a boat that hopefully will float by the end of the term

Year 2

This is another busy term for our grade and includes two exciting events – an excursion to the Ipswich Railway Museum and a visit from Wild Rangers.

Our HASS unit in Terms 3 & 4 focuses on comparing modern world technologies with technology of the past. It culminates in our excursion to the Ipswich Railway Museum on August the 27th, where students will view real life examples of historical technology.

The other exciting event in our calendar is the visit from Wild Rangers on August 7th. During this visit students will get to view and handle a wide range of animals. They will be taught different facts about each animal, which links perfectly with our English unit on informative texts. Students will be writing an information report on a chosen animal and presenting it to an audience. This has always been a favourite unit with past students and we are excited to get into it.

Our Science unit looks at lifecycles. Students will study how animals and plants change as they grow. They will compare the changes experienced by different types of animals during their lifecycle.

The focus of Maths this term will be learning beginning multiplication skills, telling time to the quarter and half hour and the value of Australian coins.

I hope you enjoy viewing the classroom photos 😊

Year 3

What a great start to the term it has been!

This term, we have been looking at information texts in English. Students are doing a marvelous job at identifying the text and visual features that are included within information texts.  Eventually, students will be creating information texts of their own on one of Australia’s neighboring countries (Vanuatu, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea or Indonesia). This unit is nicely linked in with our HASS unit on Australia’s Neighbours.

Our focus in Mathematics this term is time and money.  The students will learn how to tell time to the minute and the different representations of time.  Money the students will be learning how to use different

In Science, we have been looking at states of matter. Students will be investigating how states can change and how heating and cooling has an impact on this.

We have also started our PLD spelling groups for the term where all Year 3 students are placed into targeted groups focusing on their spelling stages. These occur from Wednesday to Friday in the middle session.

Have a great week!

Mrs Griffin, Miss Stepanoff and Mrs Martin

Lost Property

As always, we have a mountain of lost property piling up at school. A lot of it is unnamed which makes it extremely hard to get it returned to the rightful owner. If your student has lost any items direct them to the lost property bins which are located under A Block Administration Building, or you're welcome to pop in for a look yourselves. Please check there if your children are missing any of their belongings.

Sports Update

Last term, we had the Year 3 - 6 Sports Day. The students competed in track and field events to see who would win the coveted House Cup!

The students sung war cries, ran their hearts out, and jumped out of their skin, to get points for their house. There was even a parent, teacher, student race, with the mighty teachers winning...of course. But at the end of the day, it only came down to 14 points...with Evans taking home the trophy! Congratulations!

There were some standout performances with the following students crowned Age Champions: Paige, Stanley, Kayla, Broden, Charlotte, Kane, Pippa, Mateo.

From this event, many students were chosen to compete at the Beaudesert Zone Athletics Carnival. All the students who went were perfectly behaved and did themselves and the school proud. We even had Paige get Age Champion!

Moving onto the Pacific District Trials, we have Corban, Janicx, Mia, Cody, Bayley, Paige, Stanley, and Kayla. We wish you all the best!

Finally, a massive congratulations to Scarlett, who made the South Coast Rugby League Team. That is a massive effort! She will be trialling to make QLD in the coming weeks. We wish her all the best and know that she is going to do herself and our school proud. Congratulations again.

The Arts

Performing Arts

Year 1 and 2 performing arts classes are immersing themselves in the vibrant world of cultural celebrations, creating their own unique dances and music. Alongside these creative projects, students are learning the fundamental skills of dance and music and actively participating in engaging drama activities. These experiences not only enrich their understanding of diverse cultures but also foster their artistic growth and self-expression.

Year 3s are learning about Heroes and Villains through Music, Dance and Drama. They will be learning a hero dance which some students will be presenting at the Beaudesert SS Arts night in term 4.

Prep students are using their imaginations to explore the enchanting world of dance, drama, and music. Through creative play and storytelling, they are discovering the joy of self-expression and the basics of the performing arts. These activities help them develop confidence and creativity.

Design Technology

Prep: iPad Exploration and Seesaw Mastery

Our Prep students have been diving into the world of digital technologies with enthusiasm! They are learning about the different parts of an iPad and the important rules for using them responsibly. A key part of their digital journey involves using Seesaw, an interactive platform that enhances their learning experience. Students are becoming adept at logging into their accounts and finding the tasks assigned to them. They have also been exploring the creative features of Seesaw, including the pen, pencil, highlighter, and glow pen.

Year 1-2: Online Safety and Personal Information

Our Year 1 and 2 students are focusing on the topic of online safety. They have been learning about personal information and the importance of being respectful and responsible online. Through engaging lessons, they are developing the skills to trust their feelings when something doesn't seem right and to investigate further if needed.

Year 3:  Online Safety

In Year 3, students are delving deeper into online safety. Their lessons are centred on understanding what information is safe to share and how their data is stored. They are also learning valuable strategies to protect themselves online.

STEM

Exciting STEM Adventures This Term!

This term, our students have embarked on an exciting journey through our STEM program, with a special focus on science experiments and the world of flight.

In our science experiments, students have delved into the intriguing world of chemical reactions. Using simple household ingredients such as vinegar, bicarbonate of soda, milk, food colouring, and detergent, they have observed and investigated the amazing transformations that occur when these substances interact. These experiments have not only been fun but also educational, providing a deeper understanding of chemical processes in a tangible and memorable way.

The students have also been engineers by designing and testing paper planes. The challenge has been to create the most streamlined and efficient design to achieve maximum flight distance. In addition, students have been constructing launchers using rubber bands to propel their planes.
