Principal's Report - Tuesday 15th August

Hello everyone,

I cannot believe we are over the halfway point of the term already. Term 3 is always a busy one, full of sporting events, production rehearsals and performances, but it certainly feels like we are zooming through it this year!

Unfortunately, we are doing so without Trish at the moment who is still unwell and being looked after in hospital. The students created beautiful cards and origami flowers that we passed onto her and she wanted to say that they absolutely brightened her day.

This coming Friday we have the pleasure of welcoming Meerkat Productions to the school to perform Frank’s Red Hat by Sean E Avery. The book tells the story of Frank, a penguin, who never gives up despite a number of setbacks. It links very well with our PYP Learner Profile, particularly being a Thinker, an Inquirer and a Risk-taker. Meerkat always put on a great show and we cannot wait to see how they chose to present Frank’s Red Hat. If you have not already done so please jump on Qkr! and complete consent for this incursion.  It will also mean that we will not be having an assembly this coming Friday.

A quick thank you to Scott Maxwell who came in last week and mowed the lawns around the school grounds. They’re looking wonderful in this beautiful winter sun! If you feel you could offer the school some assistance in matters such as these please come and see us, the school relies on the skills and enthusiasm of parents in many different ways. Thank you Scott!

While Trish is offsite we endeavour to maintain the regular goings on of the school so if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to come and see me.

Joe Flynn.

A big congratulations to Grade 5 student Moser who competed in the 2023 U11 State Cycling Championships on the weekend. He came 1st in the 10km time trials and 2nd place in the 18km road race. These positions get Moser on track for a very successful future in cycling. Congratulations Moser on this extraordinary achievement.

From the Office

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the first newsletter completed be myself, needless to say, I am missing Naomi already with her calming presence and magic ways of writing beautiful articles for the newsletter, I (we) wish Naomi all the best in the new position and I will do my best to keep up the high standard of quality reading for newsletter content.

Lost Property

A reminder to label clothing and containers.  Unnamed items will be taken to the Church Op Shop in Gisborne at the end of each term.  We do our best to have items returned to their owners, but this is difficult if they are not labelled clearly.

Absences

A friendly reminder to please let the office know, in person, via email or by leaving a message on the absence line, if your child is absent.  If the classroom teacher is away Seesaw messages may not be seen.

Thank you

Amy

Update by School Reporter Harriet

Hello everyone and welcome to this week's newsletter article!

Production Update

The practice for Production is going along well, roles are out and are being practised. We are coming along well with singing but need to remember some things as the songs contain important parts of the storyline. Dances are getting underway in the classroom and everyone is enjoying the process of learning and practising their songs and dances.

It will be the end of term in no time and we will be in the middle of our performances. We cannot wait to show you all The Wingding Jamboree.

Wellbeing and Inclusion Update

This term we have been focussing a lot on self-care and wellbeing. We have been doing mini lessons with our Wellbeing coordinator Olivia. We have also been learning about internet safety on Interland. We have a wellbeing corner for when students feel like they need to take a little time out, which is extremely helpful! The grade 5/6s have a lesson on wellbeing every Monday and Wednesday with Mr. Flynn and Olivia where we explore a range of wellbeing strategies. We do roleplay activities and explore real-life situations and learn how to look after ourselves and others’ mental health.

Parent Opinion Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

While the DET suggests a random sample of approximately 80 families or 30 per cent of parents/caregivers/guardians be selected to participate, at Mount Macedon Primary School all families are invited to participate in this survey.

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from:

Monday 7th  August to Friday 8th September.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. Survey results will be collated by DET and sent to the principal who will communicate to parents/caregivers/guardians through annual reporting. The online survey will be available in English, and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Haka Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish and Vietnamese. Please speak to the school office if you would like more information.

Instructions to complete the survey have been sent to parents via email, so please look out for this in your email in box. If you need the survey link re sent, please contact the school office.
