Principal's Report

Semester 1 Reports

Semester 1 reports will be sent home with families this Friday. I have enjoyed reading each report across our school, and I would like to thank our teachers for having such a deep level of understanding of where each student is at, guiding their future learning goals and knowing each child and their interests. I encourage you to make an appointment with your child's class teacher early in Term 3 if you have any questions or concerns after reading your child's report.

Changes to Explaining Absences

Starting next term, we will be using the School Bytes Parent Portal to explain absences which means Skoolbag/Audiri will no longer be available for explaining absences. Please ensure you have a parent portal setup before the end of term.

  • Open the parent portal link – https://portal.schoolbytes.education/auth/login – and log in to your portal.
  • Select attendance from the navigation bar.
  • Select respond for the absence. ...
  • Select an absence type from the available options.
  • Optionally upload any supporting documentation.
  • Enter a reason for the absence in the comment field.
  • Select submit.

  • An easy way to make payments now available!

Making payments is now incredibly easy for parents! All you need to do is click on the payments tab in the School Bytes Parent Portal and you will be able to see if you have any payments outstanding, such as the annual excursions/incursions and pay using credit card.

We provide many opportunities beyond the classroom for students to experience through incursions and excursions, which are subsidised by P&C fundraising efforts and funding grants obtained by the school. While we try our best to reduce the cost to parents by subsidising  excursions, we ask for parents to contribute a one off payment for the year.

We appreciate parents paying their annual excursion/incursion fees as soon as possible to allow us to cover expenses already incurred this year such as buses and entry fees. The fee amount for K-2 students is $80 while the fee for 3-6 students is $100.

I’m of the firm belief that no child should miss out on an opportunity due to financial limitations, so if you have difficulty making payment for incursions, excursions or school events, please make contact with me directly so we can discuss a payment plan or how the school can assist.

The school website 'make a payment tab' will now direct you to the parent portal to make payments.

  • Log into the parent portal – https://portal.schoolbytes.education/auth/login.
  • Select the statement of account icon.
  • Confirm or edit the balance to be paid for each charge.
  • Optionally select add other item to add a sundry item that is not linked to the statement of account, for example you can add Book Fair credit.
  • Select pay now.

  • K/1 Assembly

All K/1 parents are welcome to attend our next assembly on Wednesday 28th June, starting at 2.30pm. Our K/1 students will be performing class items and sharing their work. They will be dressing up for one of their class items, based on what they have written about in response to "When I grow up, I want to be a ..." For this the children will need to bring to school their clothes for what they want to be when they grow up, as the children will be changing into them before the assembly. They can start to bring them in and keep them in the classroom. The children know what they want to dress up as as they have done an artwork around this topic. Feel free to ask Mrs Page any questions you might have about the assembly.

Last Day of Term - 'When I Grow Up' Mufti Day

On the last day of Term 2, Friday 30th June, our Year 6 students are hosting a 'When I Grow Up' Mufti Day where students can dress up as the occupation they would like to be when they grow up. We ask students to bring along a gold coin donation and this money will be collected by our Year 6 students as one of their fundraisers which goes towards buying a gift to the school at the end of the year.

We will have some guest speakers talk to our K-2 students about their occupations as part of our PDHPE Child Protection units where we have been learning about people in the community who help keep us safe.

    Term 3 Tennis Program

Kate will be running the Rally as One Tennis Program at the Tennis Courts every Friday as part of our sport sessions where each class will walk down to the tennis courts for a session with Kate. If children have their own tennis racquet at home, we ask that you please bring it along on Fridays for sport, starting Friday Week 1.

    Book Week Street Character Parade

It's that time of year to start planning your Book Week Character costumes for our street parade on Tuesday 22nd August. The theme for this year is 'Read, Grow, Inspire' and we look forward to seeing creative costumes again this year so we aim to give parents plenty of time to make, sew or buy the dream costume!

    Term 3 Working Bee

Our Term 3 P&C Working Bee will be on Saturday 29th July. Please let Brad know if you are able to help out and we will confirm a time that suits our volunteers.

Education Week Assembly, Open Classrooms and Book Fair

Save the date for our Education Week celebrations in Week 3 of Term 3, Wednesday 2nd August from 12-1:30pm. We are planning to hold a brief assembly, followed by open classrooms and a book fair in the library. Parents can add credit to their School Bytes Parent Portal by clicking on the payments tab, click on 'add other item' and select Education week book fair sales. These funds will then be available for students to spend during the Book Fair.

We wish our students a safe, happy and restful holiday. Students return for Term 3 on Tuesday 18th July, following a staff Development Day.

    Quality work in 4/5/6RD

Last Monday, I had the pleasure of working with our years 4, 5 and 6 students who were given the opportunity to write a poem about the river to contribute to the Beneath the Surface Art Installation. I was so pleased and impressed to see such creative writing from our students! Here are some samples of their work.

Underneath the scorching sun and beneath the cold dark waves,

as the river weeds move gently through the underwater caves,

a thousand pebbles lay there calmly resting gently on the sand

as if they were lying there sleeping on the rivers gentle hand,

the stars shine down so brightly upon the river glow

as if they were rocking the river softly to and fro.

    By Liam

    A River poem

I am calm and I flow gently through the current.

I see the moon and the stars, the sky is cloudy but sometimes not.

I hear the bees and the crunch of feet.

I wonder what the tickle is, it happened oh so fast that I couldn't feel a beat.

I feel strong in my current, I feel bold and I gently slide to your feet.

I smell nature and dead meat, I think it came from that wombat over there.

I want to go to Italy or maybe just France.

I try not to hurt anyone but sometimes I fail that.

I dream of becoming a superstar but sometimes that's too much.

I am calm and I flow gently through the current to you.

    By Reed

    I am calm and roaring

I see the people snoring and baking on the bank

I hear the ripples falling against the bank

I wonder if the kids see the creature

I feel slick and silk moving through the rapids

    I smell the slimy fish

I want to be clear and calm

    I try to fight pollution

I dream about the warm sun on my back

    I am calm and roaring

    By Luke

    The River

The river is like a pool so big that when you jump in you turn into an insect bobbing in the waves.

The river is like the heart of a sleeping god slowly pushing the water all around the world.

The river is so calm that I could hold my breath forever and ever.

The river is a rippling current so strong that it can tear anything in its way.

The river is a breath of life to all of the creatures of the deep.

    By Samson

My cold river flows, someone touches me, sending ripples through my water. They shiver. It's too cold, they say to their friend. I listen to their footsteps pound away. It falls silent except for the croak of a frog.

A human paddles over me rattling the surface of my water. The wind is blowing them the other way. They struggle against its mighty push. They seem to use double their usual strength. I try to help them with my strong current. The wind gives up and the human begins to sing. I listen to her amazing song.
