Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Welcome back to Term 3.  I hope that everyone had a safe and restful holiday.  It’s great to be back with staff and kids after Paula and I were in Europe for a few weeks to visit our daughters in Denmark.  I am missing the Northern European Summer though – it didn’t get dark, even in the middle of the night!

Lots of things on this term – parent teacher interviews, skiing, 100 days of prep, book week to name a few.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent Teacher Interviews are being held this week and next week after school.  If you haven’t had an opportunity to arrange an interview with your child’s teacher, please contact the office for help or touch base with the teacher directly.

State Cross Country

Congratulations to Zali Hopkins, Cooper Hoebergen, Rachael Mercieca and Jack Clydesdale who all represented Mansfield Primary School at the State Cross Country Championships yesterday.  Thank you to Ms Driessen for supporting them all the way through.

Staffing Term 3

Mr Corden is on Long Service Leave this term, travelling through Australia with his family.  Mrs Scott is teaching 3B for Term 3 and we look forward to hearing all of Mr Corden’s stories at the start of next term.

Like always, please get in touch with us with any questions or concerns.  Call or email your classroom teacher, call the front office or email me tom.macmunn@education.vic.gov.au.

Have a great weekend.

Take Care,

Tom

Disability Inclusion at Mansfield Primary School

At Mansfield Primary School we believe every child has the right to be a child. To play, to laugh and to learn with their peers which is why we are excited to introduce The Department of Education’s new funding system designed to better support all children in schools; Disability Inclusion.

Disability Inclusion is the ongoing commitment in which all staff work collaboratively with families, students and the wider community to ensure that every child, at every ability, thrives.   Disability Inclusion at MPS is driven by the belief that every child should be given the opportunity to:

  • Learn alongside their peers
  • Play and laugh with their peers
  • Participate in all that school has to offer alongside their peers
  • Make a difference, just by being them

This year Mansfield Primary School will begin introducing some changes to help us strengthen support for students with disability.

Disability Inclusion will help our school better understand what our students need to help them learn and participate at school. It involves:

  • a new Disability Inclusion Profile and school funding model to strengthen support for students with disability
  • more resources, training and coaching for our teachers and school staff about the best ways to support students with disability
  •  the introduction of a Disability Inclusion Learning Specialist
  •  expansion of intervention programs such as MacqLit

The Disability Inclusion Profile will be available to help us identify the strengths, needs, and educational adjustments we can make to assist students with disability and additional learning needs.

The Disability Inclusion Profile replaces the Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD) application process.

Over the coming years, we will invite families of students who are currently part of the PSD, and other students with disability and additional learning needs, to participate in a meeting to complete a Disability Inclusion Profile.

We will use new school funding and supports for more training and professional development for teachers and school staff, expert advice about disability to help plan and deliver changes for students, and resources to support learning.

The new Disability Inclusion approach ensures our school is better able to continue to support students with disability and additional learning needs.

Mansfield Primary School is excited to be part of Disability Inclusion and we look forward to continuing to support our students to learn and thrive.
