Kaya, Parents & Community Members,

The excitement around swimming lessons commencing this week has been palpable and the enthusiasm of our student from Pre-primary to Year 4 truly infectious.  The attitude and endeavour of those participating has been impressive.

This week we welcomed our new Student Wellbeing Officer to our school. Following a successful request, we have been able to access a Wellbeing Officer in-lieu of a Chaplain for the future.  Monique Crabtree, also known as Mrs. C, has worked in a number of schools, supporting children with a wide range of needs.  I know our community will welcome Mrs C with open arms and confident in the positive reception she will receive.

And finally, I look forward to seeing all families during our Learning Journey next week, i.e. Wednesday, August 23 at 3.15pm to 5.00pm.  A golden opportunity for your children to showcase the wonderful work they have produced in recent times.

Spare Parts Puppet Theatre - Blueback

Thanks to some generous sponsorship from the Hawaiian Group, our Year 2 to 5 students will be privileged to watch the Spare Parts Puppet Theatre rendition of Blueback on Monday. September 11. The Spare Parts team will visit our school on this day and so there will be no charge for this opportunity.

Blueback is a production adapted by Peta Murray from the book by Tim Winton. This is one of Tim Winton’s most personal and quintessentially Western Australian stories, Blueback depicts the life of a young boy, Abel, and his mother, their relationship with the environment and their desire to protect and preserve the natural habitat of the place they call home.

Minecraft Club

Last week in Minecraft Club, students were challenged to build a Spaceship. Engaging in spaceship-building challenges within the Minecraft Club not only ignites students' creativity and critical thinking skills, but also fosters teamwork and problem-solving abilities as they collaborate to construct intricate and imaginative interstellar vessels.

Wonderful World of Work

Room 1 and 2 have been learning about Information Reports, in writing. We created line drawings to show our knowledge of the Quenda.

Mrs Murdock was impressed in these wonderful works of art.

Music Notes

This semester, we have a focus on Music: Making and students are learning ensemble pieces as well as continuing their Recorder Ribbons journey. This week, Taya achieved her Black Belt! Woola, Taya!

Interschool Cross Country

Glengarry put in our usual great team effort against seven other schools in our district.

Our team is always made up of a mixed group, mainly children who do not train in Athletics, so we are particularly proud to have so many, courageous efforts.

The Year 6 boys were drenched and some children found out just how hard they can push themselves.

The race is always very fast due to the numbers of children who race regularly.

We had three children with medallions for placing:_

 1st Alex K Year 6 Boys

2nd Willow L  Year 5 Girls

2nd Charlton W Year 3 Boys

Well done Glengarry Cross Country Team!!

Recollect

Bring in those containers - 7c each

We have just changed over to have our containers collected by ‘Recollect’.

They do charge 3c per container for the service – money well spent. Green bins are in the cage and will be collected as needed. Money is deposited directly into the P&C account.

Most homes recycle wine, spirit and milk bottles into their yellow bins, that’s great as they do not take these.

On-the-go drink containers are the problem ones to collect.

Just toss containers into a box or crate at homeespecially after a party, and bring them to school on a Thursday.  They can be crushed but must be recognisable. A crate or large bin will stop leaking in your car –

go on give to your P&C!

The cage is near the greenhouse at ‘Alfreton Road’ side of school, will be open from 8:30 till 3:45 every Thursday of the school term.

Health and Hygiene

Is your child feeling unwell?

If your child is unwell with cold and flu symptoms, please keep them at home and consider checking in with your GP if symptoms don't resolve

Healthy WA also recommends seeking a COVID test for cold and flu symptoms.  See links below for more info.

Department of Health LINK

DoE LINK

As directed by our guidelines, we will ask for your child to be collected if they are displaying cold symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever etc.

We have a student at school who is immunocompromised.  This means they can potentially become gravely ill even when contracting a common cold/virus.  Please be mindful of sending students to school when they are unwell, as they may spread their infection.  Please speak with your GP/health professional and see the information in the links above re: advice about keeping your child at home when unwell.
