From the Principal

Welcome to the final newsletter for 2023. What a year it has been! I would like to take this opportunity to thank the highly professional, hard working staff of Telopea Public School for their continued dedication to ensuring the very best learning environment for each and every one of our students. I would particularly like to thank Miss Roberts and Mrs Limburg who will be leaving us at the end of the school year. I wish them all the very best for their future endevours.

As a school we continue to receive amazing support from our parent community. This has been much appreciated and I look forward to building on this relationship next year.

Presentation Day

Congratulations to all the students who received awards at our annual Presentation Day. It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the hard work of each and every student and the achievement of their learning goals this year. A special congratulations to Lanlalin N. and Moussa F. who have been named as our School Captains for 2023. I know they will lead our student body with pride.

Year 6 Farewell

Best of luck to our outgoing Year 6 students. They have been outstanding leaders of our school and I have every confidence that they are ready for their high school journey. We will celebrate their last day of school on Friday with a Motiv8 Sports Funday and special lunch. Thank you to Ms Michie for her work organising this day for the students.

Student Reports - Semester 2

Semester 2 reports will be sent home tomorrow (Thursday 14th December).

Class Formations for 2024

Yesterday, the students had the opportunity to spend the afternoon with their anticipated teacher for 2024. We expect to start the school year with 6 classes including one 5/6 composite class. We are however, experiencing increasing enrolments, and all organisation models are subject to change in the new year. Classes and teachers will not be finalised until after the first few days of the new term.

I would like to wish all Telopea families and staff a happy and blessed Christmas and a restful holiday break.

Mrs Erin Dooley

Principal (Relieving)

Student Achievement - 2023 Truck Art Competition

Congratulations to Sophie G of Year 2 who has been awarded a "Highly Commended" certificate and prize in the 2023 City of Parramatta Truck Art Competition. This year's theme for the artwork was to educate and empower our community to combat littering and create a more sustainable and beautiful environment through clean up activities and litter prevention campaigns. Congratulations to Sophie and all the Telopea students who entered the competition.

K-2 End of Year 'Big Day In' Incursion

Last Thursday, our K-2 students enjoyed a very exciting "Big Day In". Each class had the opportunity to attend a special Lego workshop, play some fun class games and attend a Christmas Fizzics Education show in the afternoon. A wonderful time was had by all!

3-6 End of Year Excursion

On Thursday 7 December, Telopea Public School Year 3-6 students attended an excursion at the Reading Cinemas at Rhodes. They had a whole movie theatre to themselves! The students thoroughly enjoyed watching the animated movie, ‘Trolls 3.’ On returning to school, they had a delicious sausage sandwich and a refreshing ice block. It was a great day!

Home Instead - Cards for Seniors

Thank you to the Year 4, 5 and 6 students who wrote postcards to senior citizens in our community. The postcards were written to bring a smile to our elderly citizens in Nursing Homes. Telopea Public School students wrote kind and uplifting messages and coloured these with care. What a great initiative!

Thank you to Home Instead for allowing us to participate and distributing these postcards to senior citizens in our community.

What's Happening Year 2 Bandicoots

To the students, parents and caregivers of Year Two Bandicoots,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my students in Year Two Bandicoots. It has been a fantastic year full of learning and laughter. It has been a pleasure to spend time with every single one of you. To parents and caregivers thank you for your support and for your ongoing commitment to your students' learning. Happy holidays and all the best for Year Three!

Mrs Wallace

What's Happening in 5/6 Emus

The 5-6 Emus have had a very productive term. They were focussed, engaged in lessons and were extremely inquisitive. The class were particularly engaged in Ochre maths learning, Reading Mastery, The Dundas Light Rail Art Project, PDH classes and clubs. The Emus have been an enjoyable class to teach. Ms Michie and the year 5 students send good wishes to the year 6 students for 2024 as they embark on a new chapter of their schooling in High School.

“This term was amazing. There were so many special activities. I loved Story Factory, swim school and creating digital news.” (Micah, year 5).

“Term 4 was one of the best terms. It was unique. I enjoyed dancing at the disco and playing volleyball. I can’t wait for the year 6 farewell and the sport games! I love Telopea Public School. I am going to miss the students and teachers.” (Izaac E, year 6).

“In Geography, we studied biomes. Biomes of the world have their own habitat, climate, flora and fauna. I made a desert diorama. I was very proud of it and really liked how it turned out.” (Jayden, year 6).

“I loved writing poems this term. I wrote haikus, limericks, acrostic poetry, alphabet poetry, shape poetry and cinquains.” (Avi, year 5).

“Ms Michie and the 5-6 class read a text called ‘Sophie Scott Goes South’ by Alison Lester. I loved learning about the Aurora Australis icebreaker, the animals in Antarctica and making artwork of different penguins.” (Holly, year 5).

“I started primary school here at Telopea Public School in kindergarten. I have great friends and teachers. I will sadly miss this wonderful place.” (Jakeob, year 6).

Thank you to the Telopea Public School community for helping raise funds for the year 6 farewell. Over Semester 2, we held many events which included the Referendum Election BBQ, K-2 and 3-6 discos, Dress as your Favourite Colour Day, Jersey Day, jellybean and cupcake sales and from weeks 5-9, we had our weekly sales at the canteen. A HUGE thank you to the SRC for supporting these initiatives, in particular, Penelope, Jasmine, Lanlalin and Jayden S.

Another HUGE thank you goes to Addy who has been a Story Factory volunteer at Telopea Public school for many years now. Story Factory is a not-for-profit, creative writing program for young people. We are so grateful to have this fantastic group of storytellers and volunteers who work weekly with the year 3, 4, 5 and 6 Telopea Public School classes. Addy generously donated $130 towards our year 6 Fundraiser.

Our final 2023 Telopea Public School assembly was held on Tuesday 5 December. Congratulations to those students who received Merit and Principal awards. Thank you to our school captains, Penelope, and Jasmine for being great leaders. We welcome Lanlalin and Moussa as our leaders for 2024.

What's Happening in Year 1 Quokkas

Year 1 Quokkas are enjoying their new classroom furniture. The amazing thing about our new desks is that they are assisting us in improving our fine motor skills, it is encouraging impromptu notetaking and brainstorming and is helping reduce the need of paper by making our classroom a lot 'greener'.
