Term 3 - Week 8 (11th September, 2026)

Dear St Mary's School Community,

Focus Value: : Sportsmanship

We play fairly for the enjoyment of all and encourage each other to do our best.

Holy Communion

We wish our 4 Holy Communicants the very best on Sunday when they receive the Holy Sacrament for the first time. This is a central rite of The Catholic Church where we consume bread and wine to remember the sacrifice and death of Jesus Christ. All are welcome to attend the 10.30am Mass.

P&F Meeting

Thank you to all who turned up in person and online to our Monday night P&F meeting. We are extremely lucky to have such a group of dedicated parents here at St Mary’s doing their very best to improve the lives of all students. Children, don’t forget our P&F Disco NEXT Friday, the 18th of September, in the School Hall. See the flyer below for more information.

Climate Survey

Thank you to those who have completed the School Climate survey. Time is running out and we’d love to have your feedback AND there’s a Café voucher up for grabs to win for those that complete the survey.

Tournament of Minds

As reported last week, we had two teams participate in ToM. Both teams received their formal feedback this week. The State Director added:

“Please find attached feedback sheets to share with the students.

Both teams were great, but Planet Kllanrt (the first team who presented) did an amazing job this year. They placed in the top 40% of teams across the state, and earned a Certificate of Merit, congratulations!”

Learning Journey

Don’t forget our Learning Journey is on Tuesday, the 15th of September, from 3.30-5.30pm. All family members are welcome to visit and enjoy the experience of your children showing you some of their classroom activities.

Class News

Performing Arts

This term in Performing Arts we have been focusing on Dance! Every class has had so much fun learning different elements of dance and how we can make a dance using them. We have been dancing to different tempos and perfecting our canons!

Our first performance of our 'elements of dance' was the FlashMob at the Interschool Athletics Carnival and everyone did so well! It was great to see everyone giving it a go and having fun.

Now onto using the elements of dance and performance skills to perfect our End of Year Christmas Concert dances- which we cannot wait to show you! They are coming along beautifully.

Special Events

Faction Athletics Carnival

Last Friday, our students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 came together for an action-packed Faction Athletics Carnival.

The day started with a little uncertainty as rain threatened to dampen everyone’s spirits. Thankfully, the clouds cleared just as our students arrived, and we were treated to a lovely day.

The carnival began with all of the students looking very sharp for marching, before they competed across a range of events including running, throws and team games. Students showed fantastic determination, sportsmanship and enthusiasm, cheering on their teammates and giving their best in every event.

Competition was fierce, with some incredibly close races and outstanding performances throughout the day. The excitement continued right through to the final events as students proudly represented their factions and gave their all.

After a fantastic day of competition, the final results were:

🥇 Salvatorians – 1,053.5 points 🥈 MacKillop – 928 points 🥉 St Joseph’s – 835.5 points

In the marching, results where even closer than the track races we were watching, with only 2 points separating all three Factions. Salvatorians were victorious on 138 points, closely followed by Mackillop on 137 points and St Josephs on 136 points

Congratulations to the following students for their outstanding performances and achievements:

  • Runner-Up Junior Girl: Chara-Lee G
  • Champion Junior Girl: Abigail B
  • Runner-Up Junior Boy: Oliver R
  • Champion Junior Boy: Hunter C
  • Runner-Up Intermediate Girl: Tessa O

A huge thank you goes to all of our wonderful parent volunteers who help make a day like this possible. From those who helped mark out the oval prior to the carnival, to those who braved the rain to assist with setting up, ran events throughout the day and stayed behind to help with packing everything away, and the P&F for catering, your time and support are very much appreciated.

Thank you also to Shire of Merredin for the support we received to run this event through their Annual Community Grant.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank all of our staff, who worked hard in the lead-up to the carnival to prepare and encourage our students, ensuring they were ready to participate, compete and enjoy the day.

Most importantly, it was wonderful to see our students encouraging one another, having fun, displaying excellent sportsmanship and proudly representing their factions.

Congratulations to everyone who participated — what a fantastic day of athletics, teamwork and faction spirit!

We wish all students representing St Mary’s at the interschool Athletics Carnival all the very best. Go Saints!!!
