One of the great privileges of being Principal is the regular “knock at the door” from our senior students, eager to share their ideas and initiatives. Their enthusiasm, leadership and pride in their school are both inspiring and affirming.
This past week alone, I have met with several student leadership groups. Our Environment Team spoke passionately about what they learned during the CERES incursion and outlined their plans to begin work on establishing a worm farm and compost system at school. Their commitment to caring for our environment is commendable.
Our Art Captains visited with an exciting new slogan for this year’s Art Show which, unfortunately, I am not yet permitted to share! Their creativity and forward planning are already building anticipation for this special event.
Our Faith and Social Justice Captains have been actively promoting Project Compassion and are leading an initiative to collect children’s clothing for charity. Their dedication to serving others reflects the Gospel values we strive to live each day.
Meanwhile, our School Captains have been thoughtfully discussing ways we might recognise and celebrate the many random acts of kindness that occur daily within our community. Their desire to affirm positive behaviour and nurture a culture of kindness speaks volumes about their leadership.
I am buoyed by their energy, initiative and genuine love for their school. I look forward to this week’s assembly, where they will share more of their ideas and learning with our wider community.
A sincere thank you to Scott and Alisia for generously hosting the Foundation family drinks on Saturday evening. It was wonderful to hear there were around 50 parents in attendance, and by all accounts, it was a relaxed and enjoyable night. Opportunities such as these strengthen the connections within our parent community and help build the welcoming spirit we value so highly at St Anne’s.
This month, our Parents and Friends group are hosting a Trivia Night in the school hall. I encourage everyone to secure their tickets early. It promises to be a fantastic evening of fun, laughter, friendly competition and a great opportunity to put all that wonderfully “useless” information stored in our heads to good use! You can either buy single tickets and be placed on a table or buy a table and gather your friends. This is a child free event so remember to book the baby sitters.
NAPLAN
We would like to inform you that NAPLAN testing for our Year 3 and Year 5 students will begin on Wednesday, 11 March.
NAPLAN (National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy) assesses students in the areas of Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language (spelling, grammar and punctuation), and Numeracy. The assessments will take place during the national testing window and will be completed at school under normal test conditions.
NAPLAN is just one measure of your child’s progress and provides valuable information to support teaching and learning. We encourage families to reassure children that these assessments are an opportunity to demonstrate what they know.
To help your child feel confident and prepared, please ensure they:
Get a good night’s sleep before each test
Eat a healthy breakfast
Arrive at school on time
If your child is absent during the testing period, we will arrange a catch-up session where possible.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.
Run Club
We are hoping to relaunch our Run Club this Friday.
Mr Turnbull, Mr Kittelty, Mr Cassell and myself will be supervising the session. We plan to begin at 8:00am at Hays Paddock. All children are welcome but probably best suited to Year 2-6 students.
The change in venue has been made to ensure that students can be clearly seen at all times while running, allowing for improved supervision and safety.
As this is our first session at the new location, we will require parents to remain at Hays Paddock and assist with transporting students back to school who may not yet feel comfortable running the full distance. Students who are confident and capable of running back to school may do so under staff supervision; however, school bags will need to be dropped at school prior to the session.
We appreciate your support as we establish this new format for Run Club and look forward to a positive start this week.
School BBQ at Briquettes – Sunday 15 March
We’re excited to be hosting a BBQ at Briquettes on Sunday morning, 15th March. 7am till 11am. Pack up at 11am.
Our Year 5/6 students traditionally help run this BBQ as a wonderful opportunity to promote our school within the community. Thank you to Kimberly G for coordinating this event.
Year 5/6 parents, please keep an eye on the Grade 5/6 WhatsApp chat for details about volunteering in one-hour time slots.
Thank you in advance for your support, we truly appreciate it!
