Newsletter 29 May 2026

Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome to our Newsletter for Week 6.  As we head into the colder part of the year, can I remind all parents/carers that students need to be in school uniform.  If you are unable to purchase a school jacket/jumper, please ensure that the jacket/jumper your student is wearing is black.  Please refer to our school website for more details around school uniform.

Can I remind everyone that this weekend is a long weekend due to the Maleny Show Holiday. I am looking forward to watching our Band perform tomorrow at the Maleny Show!

Behaviour Focus for Week 7 & 8

Support others in their learning

Please talk to your child about our behaviour focus for this fortnight and discuss ways in which they can enact the desired behaviours listed.  Having this message reinforced at home will help students realise that we are all working together to ensure they are being the very best they can be.

Critical Friends Network (CFN)

We hosted the Critical Friends Network within the Glass House coalition last week.

Once a term the CFN team visits a school (one school per term), conduct learning walks in classrooms with students, inspect their learning/bump it up walls, and then conference with the group to give the host school feedback around their next steps in teaching English. Not only does it give the host school valuable feedback, but it also is a wonderful opportunity for others to observe best practice in other schools.  We received great feedback from other Principals, Middle Leaders and Teachers which will help to inform our next steps.

Pokémon Cards

Unfortunately, we have had many issues with Pokémon cards. Pokémon cards or any other trading cards are not permitted at school.  If students bring these to school, they are to hand them to the Office, where they will be held until a parent/carer can collect them.

Under 8’s Day

Thank you to Mrs Brannigan, Mrs Philpot, Ms Eastley, Miss Johnson, Miss Melville, Miss Caroline and Miss Coralie for a wonderful Under 8’s morning in the Hall last Wednesday.  This was a fantastic event for our students and school community with many parents/carers attending.  Well done!

Life Education – Healthy Harold

Our students loved attending the Life Education - Healthy Harold sessions last week. Students learnt how to make safe choices at school and in the community. These sessions were very informative and entertaining with a little help from Harold!

Fanfare

Congratulations to all students in our combined Concert Band, who performed last Friday at Fanfare! Our students played extremely well and received a 'Gold' award for their performance! Thank you to Mrs Gallagher and all the parents/carers who attended.

National Sorry Day & National Reconciliation Week

The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.

Our students have been engaged with special activities around these two very important events.

National Simultaneous Story Time

Student from Prep to Year 2 participated in National Simultaneous Story Time on Wednesday.

Millions of children, parents, teachers, and library lovers across Australia and beyond came together to read Luna Roo at the same time — celebrating the joy of reading, storytelling and connection. Published by Little Book Press the story follows the spirited kangaroo Luna and her friends as they chase their football dreams across the outback, blending action, teamwork and fun to inspire young readers. Luna Roo was selected from 84 submissions from publishers around the country

Occupational Violence and Aggression

The Department has released a Parent & Community Code of Conduct which outlines expected behaviours of Parents/Carers when on our school grounds.  Please familiarise yourself with the one page document.

If you have a particular issue, please speak to your child’s teacher first, at an appropriate time and in an appropriate way, aligning with the Code of Conduct. If needed, then make an appointment to talk to me.  I am more than happy to work together with you to solve any problems.

Have a great long weekend!

HODC Report

English units

This term students have been learning about how to:

· Read, view and comprehend informative texts

· Create informative texts about know topics and topics of interest

Over the last two weeks, students have been busily practicing responding to different informative texts and creating their own. Here are some examples of the learning walls showing the learning occurring in different classrooms.

Teaching of Reading

All of our classrooms have been learning and practicing their literacy skills (reading and spelling) everyday. This involves a range of consistent evidence-based teaching approaches that build children’s accuracy and fluency when reading and spelling. Having this fluency reduces the cognitive load that’s needed to read and write so children can then focus more on the content of their work.

Keep an eye out for photos of literacy teaching in action in the next few newsletters

Incursions and excursions

We have some very exciting incursions and excursions coming up.

We look for incursion/excursion opportunities that value-add to our curriculum delivery in the school. Upcoming ones include:

Term 2, Week 6 – Maleny show performance – Senior band

Term 2, Week 7 and 8 – Interschool sport (soccer and netball). Nominated Year 4-6 students.

Term 2, Week 10 – UniSC Careers Expo – Year 5.

Term 3, Week 4 – Beerwah State High School Culture Sharing Day. Year 4-6 indigenous students.

When we have details confirmed for each of the incursions/excursions, they will be released through consent management on QParents.

Student Services

At Beerwah, the Student Services team meets every second week to discuss how best to support our students’ learning and support needs.  Sometimes students’ needs are identified on enrolment or through our moderation process and other times individual student needs are identified by teachers.

Classroom teachers may discuss student needs with parents and carers and if necessary a referral will be made to the Student Services team.  If this is necessary, a green permission form will be sent home, explaining the process and we encourage you to complete the questionnaire on the rear of the form to help us to understand the needs of your student more clearly.

Our team are currently running an intervention program focussing on supporting students requiring additional support in the areas of phonemic awareness and phonics.
