Dernancourt School

Term 3, Week 8 Newsletter

From the Leadership Team

A message from our Leadership

Can you believe we are nearly at the end of week 8, it won’t be long and we will again be at the end of the school term. This term has been filled with extra opportunities for students, with Matsuri, Book Week, excursions and more. Thank you to all the parents and carers for your support of our extracurricular events.

The weather this week has given us a taste of what is to come. With the cooler mornings and warmer days, it is timely to check that your child’s jumper is clearly labelled with their name. Jumpers removed at recess or lunch can be easily forgotten and a clear name helps us to reunite them with the correct owner. Please also remind your child to pack their hat each day.

Our annual Book Fair is running in the library, and Sue and her dedicated helpers have been available before and after school for families to peruse and purchase books. Thank you for your support of this event. Monies raised go towards purchasing new resources for our school library.

I am often at the school crossing before and after school during the week, and our fabulous crossing monitors do a great job of making sure everyone is able to cross the road safely. It has been great to see more families using the crossing, and we encourage our students to ask their parents to cross there to help keep everyone safe. Crossing the road near the Junior Primary gate can be challenging, especially during our busy drop off and pick up times. Thank you for helping to keep our student’s safe. A friendly reminder that our ‘kiss and drop’ zone is a 2 minute parking limit only.

Planning for the 2024 school year has begun. Please can we ask that you let us know if you are not returning to Dernancourt School in 2024. A form has been sent out via Audiri, or alternatively you can contact the office to speak with our Admin staff. (No need for Year 6 families to complete the form). This helps us to plan accurately for 2024. Thank you for your assistance.

After School Playground Reminder

Dear Families

We appreciate that a number of families enjoy using the school playgrounds after school. When doing so, we just ask that you please be mindful that OSHC utilises the playground as part of its approved space. To assist with our duty of care, we would greatly appreciate it if you could please ensure that your children are supervised in a separate area to the OSHC children. Typically, the OSHC routine involves use of the "Primary’’ playground between 3:30pm and 4:00pm, and the ‘’Early Years’’ playground between 4:00pm and 5:00pm. We also use the ‘’Japanese Garden’’ and ‘’Crow’s Nest’’ throughout this period.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Regards

Tom Kibble

SRC Report

At the end of Term 2, the Reception to Year 2 classes were able to participate in a colouring competition. Our SRC reps judged the competition and the winners and runners up are:

From Reception Haya J5, runner up Gabby J4

From Year 1 Jemella J6, runner up Maanit J4

From Year 2 Sienna P2, runner up Medina P4

Well done to all those who participated.

We have used some of the money from selling lemons and oranges to buy 2 new apple trees. They have been planted on the oval near the Nature Play area. We’re looking forward to them growing and producing delicious apples for us to eat.

We raised $343 from our pyjama casual day which was donated to the Red Shield appeal. Thank you Taylor P10 for your great suggestion of having a pyjama day.

Our primary SRC reps are offering before school activities on the primary asphalt. An obstacle course, skipping, elastics and chalk drawing are just a few of the activities on offer.

In Week 8, Ruben J5, Naysa J6, Preruet P4, Zac P3 and Ruby P14 gave our garden beds and apple trees a good water before the weather starts warming up. They were also able to enjoy eating some fresh, crispy lettuce leaves from our garden.

Savers Plus

Savers Plus - school camp costs

Good afternoon,

School camps are an amazing opportunity for your students.

But they can be stressful for some parents to afford.

I would appreciate you passing this information on to families who will have children attending camps in 2024.

Saver Plus will assist with their saving & budgeting for the camp.

Saver Plus encourages parents to save $50 a month (for 10 months). Their savings is then matched - a free $500 for education costs, making $1,000 available for the school camp.

Families that start saving in September, will have their savings ready to pay their school camp fees in July 2024.

Saver Plus will chat with your families about eligibility:

  • Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card
  • Payment from Centrelink and
  • Earning an income (employment, carer’s payment, or child support).

Saver Plus helps your families with budgeting for the cost to attend next year’s school camp.

Please share with your families via email, school newsletter, or social media post.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Regards,
