Book Week
Book Week has once again transformed our school into a vibrant celebration of literature, imagination, and creativity. This year’s theme, “A Symphony of Stories,” inspired a week filled with engaging activities that brought the magic of books to life for both students and staff.
Throughout the week, excitement filled the school as students participated in virtual author talks, giving them the unique opportunity to interact with inspiring writers from across Australia. Students also joined their buddies for the Book Week picnic and book sharing, creating special moments of connection and community. Congratulations to our Golden Ticket winners!
The book sale not only allowed students to purchase a book, but importantly, enabled us to live our purpose by making a contribution beyond the school gate—this year, by supporting the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
Earlier in the week, the mysterious egg landing sparked curiosity and creativity across all classes, with students offering some very interesting and clever suggestions as to what might be inside.
Our Doorway Gallery walks were a true highlight, displaying creative interpretations of favourite stories and transforming every classroom door into a colourful literary showcase. Fun competitions and activities challenged students to guess which album cover belonged to which staff member and to match songs to stories.
Book Week at Hallett Cove East Primary School was, once again, a truly memorable celebration of literature—a real symphony of stories that united our school community in joy and learning. The week was capped off with the annual Book Week parade and assembly—a wonderful way to end the festivities!
Phonics Screening Checks
Our Year One students recently completed the Phonics Screening Checks, with results showing promising progress in their phonological development. The data from these checks enables our school to closely monitor the literacy progress of our students in the early years. It also allows us to identify learners who may need additional assistance, helping us to close the gap and ensure every child builds a strong foundation in reading. These positive results are a testament to the hard work of our teachers and SSOs, and the collective effort that happens every day in our classrooms. We are proud of our Year one learners and our staff for their ongoing commitment to literacy success.
Upcoming Student Free Day – Number Fact Fluency
We have an upcoming student free day on Monday, 7th September. This is an opportunity for our teaching and SSO staff to continue their important professional development in Number Fact Fluency. The day will feature hands-on professional learning to strengthen mathematics teaching and learning across the school, with a focus on practical strategies to help students build confidence and skills in maths. Families are reminded that our OSHC service is taking bookings for the day, or you may wish to enjoy an extra-long weekend together.

In Term 2, students in Years 4–6 participated in the Wellbeing and Engagement Collection (WEC). WEC is an annual student survey run by the South Australian Department for Education that gathers valuable information on non-academic factors relevant to learning and life, such as wellbeing, engagement, and mental health.
We recognise the positive impact that involvement in co-curricular activities has on student wellbeing and mental health. In particular, engaging with sports has proven beneficial for our students' mental health.
Our students at Hallett Cove East Primary School have shown encouraging results. According to survey data:
Participation in organised activities—including sports, music, arts, craft, and youth groups—has proven to be beneficial for student mental health. Regular engagement helps students develop social skills, build confidence, manage stress, and improve overall mood.
Students at our school are fortunate to have access to various sports programs, many of which are run by dedicated volunteers—including HCEPS soccer program. In addition, we are surrounded by a rich community of sporting clubs and organisations, such as The Cove FC, Cove Cobras, Cove Cricket Club, Sheidow Park Cricket Club, Hallett Cove Scouts, various marital arts groups and Le Dance Performing Arts. These groups provide wonderful opportunities for students to be active, build friendships, and explore their interests outside the classroom.
Strong relationships with teachers further enhance a sense of belonging and support. We are happy to celebrate that 94% of students say they ‘get along well with most of my teachers,’ with 67% agreeing and 27% strongly agreeing. Strong relationships with teachers further enhance a sense of belonging and foster student wellbeing. Our teachers engage with students at many levels to build strong and trusting relationships.

Volunteers are important to our school community. Our canteen relies on help from volunteers to deliver a meal service to our pupils.
To enable us to provide a varied recess and lunch menu offer to our pupils we really do need your help.
If you have a spare hour or more we would welcome your support.

The shop is stocked with a variety of second hand uniform items. The money raised is given back to the school and utilised in fundraising projects.
Remember that if you have any unused uniform items in good clean condition, we'd love to receive them. They can be left at the office anytime. Thank you.
