Term 2, Week 5

Principal's Report

Cross Country

This term students have been involved in two cross country events. Our school cross country was held at Wollondilly PS in collaboration with Goulburn East PS. The weather was stunning, and all students put in a fantastic effort to run the 2km and 3km courses. Our students who placed in the top 6 in each age group then competed at district level on 12 May. The weather was once again lovely, and students showed great persistence and resilience running the courses. Congratulations to Luke and Nyamba who will move on to compete at the regional carnival.

PSSA Sport

Our ‘term of sport’ kicked off with our basketball and touch football knockout teams competing against our local schools. The boys basketball team were unfortunate to go down to Goulburn South in a close game, and the girls came away with a win. Today the girls played in the next round and while they tried their best, unfortunately they were defeated by a very talented Goulburn West team.

Both the girls and boys touch football teams have played their first matches against Goulburn South, with both teams coming back victorious! They will play Goulburn West in the next round, and we wish them the best of luck.

All of our sporting events take many hours to plan, organise and coach. I would like to give a huge thank you to Mr Waterman, Mr Harradence, Mr White, Mrs Munro and Miss Spillane for the time you devote to our school sports. Thank you also to our parents for transporting our students to the events - you are all very much appreciated!

Bus Safety

There have been concerns raised about the behaviour of students on the bus to and from school. At a school level we have spoken to students about remaining in their seat and following the same behaviour expectations as at school. PBC buses have asked that parents ensure that students always carry a current bus pass as they can be checked at any time. If you require a replacement pass or wish to apply for a bus pass please go to https://transportnsw.info/tickets-opal/ticket-eligibility-concessions/school-student-travel

School Attendance

Attendance at school every day is important. When your child misses school they miss opportunities to learn, make friends and build skills.

Attendance below 90% has a negative impact on your child.

If your child is absent, please call or email the school or complete the green notification of absence note.

Mrs Samantha Smith

Attendance Team Coordinator

Good To See You Days

We are celebrating attendance at Goulburn Public School with our ‘GOOD TO SEE YOU’ days.

Children who attend school on these days are rewarded with a treat, extra play or special activity.

At the end of this term there will be a special reward for children who have attendance above 90%.

Check-in assessment for Years 4 & 6

Dear parents and carers,

During Term 2, students will participate in the Check-in assessment.

The Check-in assessment is a NSW Department of Education online literacy and numeracy assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student learning.

The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs. Students with disability may receive the same level of support during the assessment they would normally receive in the classroom.

·         The assessment will be scheduled for our Years 4 & 6 students during Week 5

·         All students complete a reading assessment and a numeracy assessment.

Students will be asked to bring headphones or earbuds that plug into a computer to enable them to hear audio during the assessment. Earbuds used for mobile phones or other portable devices may be suitable for use during the assessment.

National Walk Safely To School Day

Students celebrated Walk Safely to School Day 2023 by participating in a school colouring competition. Ms Smith had a very hard time selecting a winner in K-2 and a winner in 3-6 as the standard of colouring was fantastic across the school! In the end, Raygan from K Hume and Amarnie from 3/4 Franklin were declared the winners and received 25 Green Grins each!

Library Book Borrowing

To borrow books from the Library all students need a library bag. This is important to keep library books safe while travelling to and from school and from Lunch box mishaps. An recyclable shopping bag or pillowcase are some great options. Please make sure your child's name is clearly labelled on their library bag.

Joke Of The Week!

From The Office

Administering Prescription Medication

When a medical practitioner has prescribed medication that must be administered during the school day, parents/carers must:

  • notify the school
  • provide up to date information as required
  • supply the medication and any 'consumables' necessary for its administration in a timely way.
  • Must be supplied in a blister/webster pack or original packaging with a prescription label attached.
  • Parents/carers of children who require prescribed medication to be

administered at school must complete a written request document.

Students must not carry medications and medications are to be delivered to the office by parents/carers or the chemists.

Non-prescribed medications

Schools generally don’t administer medication that hasn’t been requested for an individual student’s specific condition. In some cases the medical practitioner may not write a prescription for such medication because it may be available 'over the counter'. NSW Health advises that ‘over the counter’ medication may still be harmful and that schools should follow the same procedures for non-prescribed medications as for prescribed medications.

For further information, please contact the school office.

Update Your Details

Have you moved house? Do you have a new phone number or email address?

Please contact the school office to update any details that may have changed.

Visitor Check In

All parents/carers and visitors who enter the school grounds must check in at the front office. Please report to the office directly after entering the school gates and you will be issued with a visitors sticker to wear for the duration of your visit.  This is for the safety of all students and staff members.

If you wish to speak to a teacher, please contact the office and a time can be arranged for you.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Online Payments

There has been a bit of confusion when paying for certain events/activities/uniforms online.

The school events and activities are separate to the P&C run uniform shop.

If you are purchasing uniforms – this is to be paid to the P&C account – their details are on their price lists.

All other payments to the school for excursions/activities/sports etc are to be paid to the school account which the link is found on our school website.

https://goulburn-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/

then go to: MAKE A PAYMENT

There has been lots of mixed payments and it is making it difficult to reconcile accounts.  If you are unsure at all, please call the office on 48212827, and we can confirm for you.

We do not want any student to miss out on any activity due to payment not being received.
