Message from Julie

Term 4 has begun in earnest, with some of our upstairs students attending camp at Arbury Park Outdoor School. It was an eventful 3 days, with much fun (and rain) had. Extra special thanks to Isabelle, Janna and Kyly for volunteering their time to attend and to Miss Amy, Miss Sophie, Scott, Jane for their organisation and to Mrs Leonards who also joined them in the evening. I was also lucky enough to spend Monday night with everyone too.  A tiring, but super fun and rewarding experience.

P3 also attended an excursion to KESAB, where they continued their learning about recycling. I have heard from many students that a highlight was the giant machine used to lift cars. Another fabulous experience for our children.

Our new playground equipment installation is getting closer, with the work expected to commence on November 17. Thanks to everyone for their fundraising efforts. How exciting!

We have added a few more dates to the ‘dates to remember’ section of the newsletter this week. Please take a look and mark them on your calendar. More information will come home about each of the dates closer to the time.  There are always lots of people and achievements to celebrate in Term 4.

Lastly, a reminder that all of our students need a hat this term. Please check that your child has a hat that is clearly named. With the weather warming up, it would also be timely to check that school jumpers are also named. It makes them much easier to return to their owners after they have been taken off and left behind.

PLANNING FOR 2026

This term, as a school, we begin to undertake many processes in planning for 2026. One of these processes is student class placements.

As a site, when determining student class placements, we will be dedicating time for our staff to come together and discuss each individual student and their placement for 2026. These discussions are informed by student needs, including learning, social and emotional, peer, friend and staff connections and other additional support as required. All decisions are made with the best interest of the student at the centre of discussions. This process takes many weeks, and our plan is to share 2026 class placements in the last week of term.

An important part of this process is parent involvement and giving families the opportunity to provide any information that may assist with student class placements. Please note that due to the staffing process requests for specific class teachers will not be taken in to consideration.

If you wish to provide input into your child’s class placement in 2026, I ask that you please email any information to Julie at julie.raggett939@schools.sa.edu.au before 5pm, Friday November 14th.

School Disco

School Disco

Our whole school disco was a great success! The children had an amazing time dancing and celebrating together. We’re excited to share that we raised over $1000, which will go towards our new primary playground — construction starts next month! A big thank you to our staff for their help and to our parents for their wonderful support.

Garden Club Update - Week 1, Term 4

Thank you to the following students who took part in Garden Club: Cataleya (J4), Magnus (P4), Dakota (J6), Ryder (J6), and Aiza (P10). They did a fantastic job planting new flowers in our garden pots and garden beds. We were lucky to have such fine weather, which made working in the garden even more enjoyable. At the end of the session, the students picked some fresh lettuce to take home and share with their families. Great work, everyone!

This year Dernancourt School will be supporting the North Eastern Community Assistance Project with their Christmas Appeal again. We will be collecting non perishable food items that will be placed in Christmas hampers for the less fortunate families in our Community.

Baskets will be placed in the front foyer of the main building to collect these items. Christmas puddings, cakes, lollies, long life custard, tinned ham etc would be appreciated to spread the Christmas cheer. Any non perishable items such as tea, coffee, hot chocolate, tinned fruit and vegetables, long life milk, noodles, biscuits, cereal etc would be great.

Donation boxes will be on hand at our end of year concert. Please bring along items and place in our collection boxes.
