Student Achievement

Congratulations to the students who have represented Telopea Public School so well in recent weeks. Firstly, to our incredible team of athletes who competed at the Zone Athletics Carnival. Every student tried their very best on that big arena at Sydney Olympic Park, with some impressive results. Thank you to Mrs Vasilareas and Mr Waters for accompanying the students on the day and allowing them to have this opportunity. Please consider the local athletics clubs as an option for weekend summer sport for your children, no matter their level of ability. It is a great family activity which is easily accessible and relatively inexpensive.

A special congratulations to our amazingly talented recorder group for an incredible performance at the Festival of Instrumental Music at the Sydney Opera House last week. What a moment it was for them and their families to perform so beautifully on that special stage. I was one proud principal! A heartfelt thanks goes to Mrs Bicanic for her dedication in giving our students this opportunity and experience they won't forget for a very long time.

I spoke to the whole school body last week about the opportunities available to every student at Telopea Public School. I encourage all to strive for excellent attendance, try your very best with your learning every day and get involved in the special activities that are going on at our wonderful public school.

Kindergarten 2026

We are currently finalising our Kindergarten Orientation Program for student starting school in 2026. Letters have been sent home to families of enrolled students with important dates. If your child is due to start school next year or if you know of a neighbour or family member please encourage them to complete their school enrolment as soon as possible.

School Organisation 2026

If your family is planning to move for the 2026 school year and will be changing schools, please advise the school office as soon as possible. This will allow for important planning and staffing considerations for the new school year.

Father's Day Celebrations

We celebrated a wonderful morning breakfast with dads, grandfathers and special family members last Thursday. A big thank you to all our staff members who assisted on the day, especially Miss Pip for organising the delicious breakfast.

We hope everyone continued to enjoy the celebration over the weekend.

Festival of Music - Recorder Performance

What a wonderful night we had on Tuesday the 9th of September! Congratulations to the ten students who participated in the Festival of Instrumental Music Recorders at the Sydney Opera House. Thank you to the Department of Education Arts Unit for facilitating such a wonderful program. Thank you so much to all the parents and family for your support and encouragement of your child to be part of the program. Last, but not least, a huge thank you to the students who participated. Thank you for your commitment and dedication. I hope that the memory of the experience will stay with you!

Responsible Pet Program

On Friday 5 September, students from K-2 at Telopea Public School took part in the Responsible Pet Program. The session was engaging and informative, teaching students about safe behaviours around animals and the responsibilities of caring for pets. Students participated with enthusiasm, asked thoughtful questions, and gained valuable knowledge to help them be safe and responsible around animals.

Zone Athletics Track and Field Carnival

On Monday 8 September, 28 students proudly represented Telopea Public School at the Merrylands/Parramatta Zone Track and Field Athletics Carnival. Our students displayed enthusiasm, determination, and wonderful sportsmanship throughout the day. Each competitor gave their best effort, striving towards personal goals and celebrating their achievements. We are very proud of their dedication and the way they represented our school community.

Help shape wiser screen habits – parent/carer & student survey

Our school has been invited to participate in a study on best practice screen use. Parents/carers can complete a 10-15 min anonymous questionnaire and/or, if they wish, give permission for their child to do a student survey: Take the Parent/carer and student survey. You can opt to receive a summary of the statewide results. Your insights will directly inform new classroom resources and policy. Thank you for your support.

Celebrating student learning

Congratulations to these students who have achieved a learning goal and have proudly shared this achievement with Mrs Dooley in the Principal's office this month.

Student Attendance

Improving attendance remains a focus for our school. Our whole school attendance rate is still concerning at 89.21% for the term. We would love to see all students at 95% so they can thrive in their learning and school experience.

Congratulations to these classes with the best attendance in recent weeks:

Week 5 - 3/4 Wombats & 6 Emus

Week 6 - 1/2 Bandicoots

Week 7 - 1 Quokkas

Week 8 - 1/2 Bandicoots

What's Happening Kindergarten Koalas

The Kindergarten Koalas have been having so much fun learning to read and write! They’re practicing their letters and sounds every day, and it’s amazing to see the little stories they come up with. They’re also loving story time and sharing their favourite books with friends. In maths, they’ve been playing with numbers, sharing, and ordering through fun games that make learning feel like playtime. When they’re not busy with reading and maths the students are enjoying lots of exciting activities. Making puzzles has been a big hit, helping them think and work together. They also love chasing and popping bubbles outside, which always brings lots of giggles. Our sport sessions are a lot of fun too, with games that get everyone moving and having a great time. It’s been wonderful to watch the Kindergarten Koalas have so much fun while learning new things every day!

Important Reminders

COLLECTING STUDENTS FROM SCHOOL

A reminder that if you have made arrangements for someone to collect your child/ren that is outside of your normal arrangements, please ensure that you have notified the office so we are aware and can let other staff members know in a timely manner.  This applies to leaving early and for the end of the day.

SAFETY

A reminder to all students and parents that entry to the School is via the Pedestrian gate on Chestnut Ave located near Block D. This is for everyone's safety. If you require disabled access there are two entry points into the school via the ramp into the school office and via the gate on the corner of Sturt and Manson Streets.

NOTES SENT HOME

On occasion important notes will be sent home. Please ensure you remember to check your child's bag each day.

CELEBRATIONS

Here at TPS we enjoy celebrating student’s birthdays. You are most welcome to bring in something to celebrate but we ask that individual store bought small bite size cupcakes or individually wrapped sweets are brought in to school as this makes it easier for the students to eat. A large cake makes it difficult to distribute to their classmates.

LOST PROPERTY

There are a number of items in the Lost Property box which do not have names on them. If your child is missing an item, please check this box which is located in the D Block breezeway.

CONTACT INFORMATION OR CIRCUMSTANCE CHANGE

Please ensure that your contact details are up to date. It is important that the School be able to contact you in case of your child being ill, a child not being collected from school or in case of emergency etc. If your family circumstances change, please also provide the school with any updated documentation.

You can notify the school of any changes or updates via written confirmation or complete the template form located in the office foyer.

MOBILE PHONES OR DEVICES

If you require your child to carry a mobile phone/device, you will be required to complete a permission note (please see the school office if you require this note). Student mobile phones/device are to be turned off and handed to the school office during school hours in the morning. Mobile phones/devices will be returned to the students at the end of each day.

Schools as a Community Centre

Dear Telopea PS and SaCC Communities,

Dear TPS and SaCC communities,

As we approach the end of Term 3 I reflect on the busy term of SaCC initiatives...

'Sing Rhyme and Story Time', 'Baby Play and Connect', our Kidsaver First Aid training, parenting program Bringing Up Great Kids, Friday Supported Playgroup and Breakfast Club.

It is my greatest pleasure coordinating the Telopea SaCC Project and supporting TPS and the SaCC Community. If you have children aged up to five years and would like to join SaCC Projects please contact me.

Next term Telopea SaCC and Uniting are partnering to deliver another parenting program. The information flyer will be printed with this newsletter....in brief informal discussions will centre on and celebrate your parenting journey.

Wishing our community a well deserved Spring vacation.
