These are outstanding results and reflects the hard work and dedication of our students and staff.Students who achieved proficiency standards of 'Needs additional support' or 'Developing' will continue to receive personalised support through class and school programs.

Weekly Newsletter - a Window into Life at School

The newsletter is our central communication with families each week giving a window into the life of the school. Please read or skim to see what your children are doing inside the school gates.

Please make time to see:

  • if your child has been included in a photograph
  • if your child's classwork is featured
  • what are the current issues the school is wrestling with
  • how you can support the faithful work of our P&C
  • an insight into the challenges of parenting
  • and of course to know what is happening each week.

Access to Technologies

The school is continuing to provide access to a variety of technologies and devices for students. As you know, devices such as computers, laptops and iPads are for educational purposes. The goal in providing these is for students to learn the proper and responsible use of all forms of technology. This requires all students to act in a responsible manner and to adhere to a number of conditions in keeping with Department of Education policies for the appropriate use of Information and Communication Technology.

Students are expected to:

  • treat technology with care at all times;
  • use appropriate language when using technology;
  • avoid websites that may have offensive, scary or inappropriate material;
  • inform a teacher if they find something that is scary or inappropriate;
  • not install and run software from home, including games without seeking teacher permission first.

Would you please remind children of our expectations and help us keep students safe when using technology.

Tell Them From Me Student Feedback Survey

This term students in years 4-6 will be taking part in the Tell Them From Me student survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them.

Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. Your child will not take part if either you or your child do not wish to. If, during the survey, your child is uncomfortable, he/she can choose to stop the survey at any time. The majority of questions in the survey can be skipped.

More information about the survey is available at:

education.nsw.gov.au/ttfm

If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please complete the attached form and return it to school by 9th October, 2023.

Results from Student Reporting Survey

Thank you to all 148 families who responded to our Student Reporting Parent Survey. Your feedback will inform improvements to our reporting processes this semester and support implementation of the new curriculum.

Results indicated that: the most effective communication was through parent/teacher interviews and informal conversations; the language used in student reports was easy to understand; personal and social development was clearly outlined; and future directions in student learning need to be more evident.

Suggestions included:

  • providing specific examples of how to assist student learning at home
  • more personalised feedback/comments on attitude and relationships with other students
  • articulation of what the A-E scale means
  • some comments were too generic
  • to include student progress in comparison to peers
  • more opportunities for longer face-to-face feedback/interviews
  • Seesaw communication not always reliable, and
  • to provide more information for families in relation to types and details of assessments used.

The executive and staff have looked at the feedback from parents and will use it to refine the Term 4 Student Reports.

Thank you for your time to share your thoughts with us.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Stage 2 Choir Performance

Our Stage 2 Choir performed at the Sydney Town Hall on Tuesday night along with 450 students from across the state. The sound was amazing! We were also privy to several performances from school bands, elite choirs and were joined for one song by an AUSLAN choir.

We had a wonderful audience of faithful parents and heard an almighty cheer when Drummoyne was announced. Thank you to Mr Dill for coming and watching the performance and thank you to all the parents for supporting rehearsals every Wednesday.

Next term we will meet to film an audition song for next years Primary Proms and prepare for events such as Presentation Day assemblies. Happy singing and have a great holiday!

Debating Report Term 3, Week 9

This week Drummoyne PS debated against Five Dock Public School in our final round, with both teams winning their debates. The topic was ‘Modern technology is good for human relationships.’

The affirmative team, the Scomos were the away team, with Sophie Hill as 1st speaker, Aria Ship as 2nd speaker, Sienna Zheng as 3rd speaker and Arun Bains as team advisor. The teams argued that overcoming distance-related barriers is easier with modern technology and that new technologies such as shopping and booking reservations online free up more time to spend with our loved ones. They also discussed social media and how to control its use, assisted technology for people with disabilities and the convenience of online dating apps. The Scomos drove their case home with a compelling team line, ‘A new and easy way to interact with people wherever and whenever’. Congratulations to all four students for their outstanding teamwork,

The  Bartons were the home team. As the negative, they pointed out that modern technology can cause rifts between family members and strained workplace relationships.  They said it could also be blamed for miscommunications between people. Finally, they discussed dependency and addiction to technology and how online relationships can lead to cyberbullying. The Barton’s compelling team line was ‘Technology is stealing our time and attention’.

Congratulations to 1st speaker Gabi Buckman, 2nd speaker Aydin Dizdar, 3rd speaker Triet Nguyen and team advisor Sam Bains for a  great debate. Well done to  Aria, who was chosen as debater of the day for her excellent rebuttals.

Many thanks to Renee Shipp for providing transport. Also, thank you to our chairperson Lachlan, and timekeepers and meeters and greeters Demi and Amber.

Metropolitan South Public Speaking Competition

Congratulations to all candidates who represented their classes in the Metropolitan South Public Speaking Competition. The students spoke passionately on a wide range of topics, engaging with their audience and clearly communicating their opinions.

The finalists and their topics are as follows:

ES1 - Eloise Bockos - Why My Daddy Really Is Captain Awesome.

Stage 1 - Ryan Elalingam - Summer Is The Best Season

Stage 2 - Isaac Navendra - Loneliness

Stage 3 - Olive Bockos - Team Sports

We wish these speakers well in the local final to be held at Annandale North Public School  on 17th October.

Clean up DPS Day

On Wednesday, the Year 6 Environmental Leaders led the students and staff to clean up our school for our second big Clean Up DPS Day. Mr Dill  joined class 1A during the clean-up and couldn't believe the rubbish found near the Thompson Street gate - spoons and cups and other pieces of plastic and paper in a space of about 5 square metres!

Mrs Hill took the rubbish collected from the North playground by the Stage 3 students into her room and had the Environmental Leaders sort it so that it could be recorded and graphed. We are looking forward to seeing the results!

Thanks to our Year 6 Environmental Leaders for organising this important event to help our environment.

    URGENT PRODUCT RECALL - LED Flashlight Rechargeable Strobe Torch sold at the Father's day stall

    Dear Parent & Carers,

    Please see the message below from Moon & Back - Suppliers of the LED Flashlight Rechargeable Strobe Torch that were sold at the recent Father's Day stall.

    'It has come to our attention that the USB cable supplied by the manufacturer for the LED Flashlight Rechargeable Strobe Torch with strap (Product) purchased for the recent Father’s Day stall is defective in that it is unable to handle charging currents higher than 1A.

    This means that if the USB cable is used in common third-party fast chargers, or high power chargers, there is a risk that the USB cable could overheat and catch fire.

    The quality and the safety of Moon and Back products is of the utmost importance to us, and we have decided to take urgent recall action to recall the USB Cable component of the product.  As the defective USB cable poses a FIRE RISK and the potential for injury and property damage, we ask that you give this matter your urgent attention".

    If your child purchased a LED Flashlight Rechargeable Strobe Torch, please return the charging cable to the office in a sealed envelope marked with your child's name on it.

    To replace the returned product, Moon & Back will provide suitable replacement USB cables to our school in the next 21 days and we will send home the new replacements for customers who return the defective USB cables.
