Class Hand Over

This Wednesday, all of our class teachers for 2024 will be meeting to do a hand over of their students. This will involve discussing their learning styles, social settings, strengths and areas for improvement.

Friday Week 7 - aka The BEST DAY EVER!

It's hard to call a day at The Pocket, THE BEST DAY EVER, but last Friday came pretty close! We started our day off with three amazing drama performances from the Year 10 students from Mullumbimby High. They were incredible!

After lunch we then moved into "Art Rotations" Maeve, Lily and Issy have been working hard all term to put together a day that was based entirely on the Arts. They created lesson plans, prepped resources and worked with their peers to ensure the day was a success.

Well done to all the teachers:

Posy and Alara - Poetry

Alfie and Lily (Year 5) - Craft

Maeve and Issy - Dance

Emma and Zhala - Art

Cillian and Sacha - Drama

A HUGE well done to the leaders: Maeve, Lily and Issy.

And to our class teachers who supported the lessons.

Teachers Learning

In Week 6 Nikki Perin met with the Department of Education team known as CSUS. Nikki and CSUS have been driving new learning across our classes in Mathematics. The CSUS team were blown away with the results from our classroom teachers and from Nikki's leadership. Go The Pocket!

Project Based Learning

No doubt you have heard about the pod casts, movies, posters and  the model playground builds. This learning is all linked back to our Project Based Learning direction across the Valley of Small Schools. We are super excited to be hosting all the teachers from the VoSS at our school today and tomorrow. This gives our teachers time to review their teaching, students learning and time to begin their planning for 2024. A shout out to Jess Foxwell and Holly Stanton-Gillan who are the leaders of their stage teams in this area. I can't wait to see what is installed for the next round of Project Based Learning units.

Mullumbimby High

Our Year 6 students finish off their high school transition tomorrow, heading over to Mullum High for the day. We were lucky enough to have Kelly Spilstead (Relieving Principal) and Aaron Madrich (Year advisor) working with our 5/6 class last week to answer any and all questions about high school.

Kindy Transition

This Thursday is our final Kindy Transition of 2024. The day runs from 9am - 1pm. We can't wait to see all of our 2024 Kindy children again.

Wellbeing Coffee Mornings

While our Kindy transitions have been on even Wednesday's this term, our wellbeing coffee mornings have still been running. They are held on the grass next to the Year 4 class ramp. Feel free to drop in for a chat and a coffee / tea.

Summer in The Pocket

We are SOOOOOO excited about this years Summer in The Pocket. We need a few volunteers on the afternoon to help it all run smoothly, nothing like The Winter Festival, far more relaxed. A flyer and note has gone out today with each student, if you can help out, please return the note as soon as possible. Thanks in advance.

Captains Speeches

We would love to see you all for our Captains Speeches next week - Tuesday 5 December. The speeches will be held in the COLA at 9am. Following this, our students and staff will vote. Parents of students who are running for leadership positions will be notified later next week via text message of the outcome.

Presentation Day and Performance Evening

Our trophy's have been engraved, the "I am proud of" certificates are being printed and the Year 6 cake is ordered! The Presentation Day is a highlight in any school, especially ours, as all of our students say the moment they are most proud of from 2023. Be sure to put it in your calendar. Invites will be sent home later this week.

Performance evening is another one not to be missed. It starts with a nice relaxed meal before we sit down for the show. Keep an eye out for the performance invite too!

Maeve and Issy Perform

Over the last few weeks both Maeve and Issy have been off learning new skills and performing. This is what they've been up to...

Issy

About two weeks ago I went on a creative arts camp at Tyalgum Ridge Retreat. I was selected to attend for my singing. I loved my teacher, Miss Drinkwater, and I made new friends that I thought I would never make.  I learnt a great new singing stance, how to breath when I sing and a bunch of diaphragmatic breathing.

Maeve

A few weeks ago, I went around our community and performed with Spaghetti Circus. We went to pre-schools and old age care homes. I have been doing circus almost my whole life, I loved making people happy and really bonding with my circus friends.
