Kaya, Parents & Community Members,

Once again, I enjoyed attending the P&C meeting on Monday evening and continue to be in awe of the amazing work the wonderful team contribute to our school.  Fittingly, we celebrate “P&C Day” next Friday (i.e., the 19th), and look forward to showing our (staff and students) appreciation on the day.

Our Public School Review was undertaken on Tuesday of this week.  A team of external validators scrutinised a wide range of documentation across a vast array of areas.  The Review group spoke to students (our Student Councillors), a significant number of staff, the leadership team and a number of members of the school community, i.e., Board and P&C Executive community members.  While the report relating to the review will not be received for approximately three weeks (and published on the school’s website), the three main take-aways from the day were:

  • The commitment and professionalism of teachers is outstanding with a noted intent to develop and improve best practice.
  • Student data is used in a highly productive, genuine manner to improve outcomes – the school should continue using data and expand to link to greater use in ECE and moderation of student progress.
  • The school has a significant positive determination to address student needs and would be able to increase this intent if additional resourcing was available.

Finally, how wonderful was it to see Running Club up and “running” again this week.  The effort and attitude of the runners was incredible and the support of parents assisting certainly appreciated.

Important Information

Allergy Aware School

We have a number of students in the school with life threatening allergies.  The triggers for the allergies include nuts, dairy products, soy products, eggs, seafood and bee stings.

An anaphylactic reaction involves the respiratory and cardiovascular systems and can result in death within minutes of the reaction commencing.  Immediate treatment is essential.

These life threatening reactions can be triggered by touching a surface that has traces of allergens and also by breathing in allergies such as nuts, dairy products, eggs, seafood.

Glengarry Primary School aims to minimise the risk by asking for your support in creating a safer environment for all students.

Parents can assist in the following ways:

  • Not providing nut products at school including peanut paste, Nutella and avoiding any product known to contain nuts.
  • Encouraging your child not to share or swap their food or drink bottles.
  • Encouraging your child to wash their hands before and after eating
  • Encouraging your child to wear shoes while at school.
  • Carefully consider the food sent for birthday treats in relation to the class.

Thank you for supporting our Allergy Aware Policy.

Minecraft Club

We're excited to announce that our new Minecraft Club has officially launched!  On Thursday Week 2, students dove into the world of pixels and creativity, with their first challenge being to create a self-portrait using Minecraft.  Our Year 6 volunteers provided valuable assistance, helping to troubleshoot technical issues and answer questions.

The Minecraft Club provides an excellent opportunity for students to work together collaboratively, developing future-ready skills such as problem-solving, systems thinking, and creativity.  By nurturing a passion for play, we hope to prepare our students for whatever challenges the future may hold.  We can't wait to see what our Minecraft Club achieves in the coming weeks!

Sustainability - Room 1 and 2

Hello GPS community!

It is that time again to commence saving your plastic bread bags for the Wonder Recycling Competition.

Room 1 & 2 students will be responsible for putting the pink box outside Room 2 each day. Please drop off your collection on your way to the undercover area, before school.

The rule of thumb is if it has contained bread of some sort and it is soft plastic, then it is a bread bag. Please do not send in other soft plastics.  Bread tags will be collected separately and sent to the Bread Tags for Wheelchairs for recycling.

Kind regards,

Mrs Rollings and Mrs Macaulay

Health and Hygiene

Is your child feeling unwell?

If your child is unwell with cold and flu symptoms, please keep them at home and consider checking in with your GP if symptoms don't resolve

Healthy WA also recommends seeking a COVID test for cold and flu symptoms.  See links below for more info.

Department of Health LINK

DoE LINK

As directed by our guidelines, we will ask for your child to be collected if they are displaying cold symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever etc.

We have a student at school who is immunocompromised.  This means they can potentially become gravely ill even when contracting a common cold/virus.  Please be mindful of sending students to school when they are unwell, as they may spread their infection.  Please speak with your GP/health professional and see the information in the links above re: advice about keeping your child at home when unwell.

Blokes & Kids Campout

What a great night!

Over 90 dads, granddads, uncles plus kids braved the cold weather and camped on the oval.  The cool temperatures didn't stop them having fun and enjoying coming together.

A huge thank you to all the amazing volunteers (dads, mums and kids) donating their time, support and cooking skills.  A special thank you has to go to Matt Morgan who took on the role of campout organiser for the first time and did a brilliant job.

Together we've raised over $2000 to go back into our school community.
