and participation of all children within our care is paramount.

Acting Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thankyou for the wonderful response to our Parent/Teacher/Student Conversations last Wednesday. It was wonderful to see so many parents and the teachers were very grateful for the opportunity to meet with you all.

I spoke with Mr Brown today and he asked me to say hello to you all and to let you know that he is going ok. He was very happy to hear all the wonderful things that have been happening at St. Matthew's. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Sacrament of Confirmation

Congratulations to the students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Friday evening. It was a lovely celebration and Bishop Curtin was very impressed with the students. Thankyou to Mrs Howden for her preparation of the mass, to Mr Travers for the music and to the Year 6 teachers, Mrs Pengelly, Mr Burrafato, Mrs Fleischmann, Mrs Saracino and Ms Tuyau for preparing the students so well.

Grandparents Day

This coming Friday July 28th we will be celebrating our Grandparents. The students have been working in their classes to prepare a musical performance for their Grandparents. The hall will be open from 9am and we will begin the musical program at 9.15am.

Picking children up on time

I remind all parents and carers that the school day finishes at 3.15pm. The teachers on yard duty are there until 3.25 then the children are taken to the office. We have had a number of children sitting in the office after 3.30pm waiting to be picked up. If your child has not been picked up by 3.45pm  we will contact you and then take them to after school care. You will then be charged by YMCA for the care. The school office closes at 4.00pm every day.

Morning drop off and Afternoon pickup

As many of you are aware there are very limited spaces for parking at the start and the end of the day.

It has been noted that some parents are choosing to do a U-TURN close to the school, PLEASE be aware that it is very dangerous, and the council will fine you for doing so. If you need to do a U-TURN, you will have to go down to the roundabout near Lowson St or go around the block.

Also, remember at drop off in the mornings drive up as far as possible to the tree on the sidewalk or past it to allow cars to come in behind you.

Remember, your safety and the safety of your children is most important.

Parents and Friends’ Association’s Family Fun Day

The P & F have organised a Family Fun day to take place here at the school on Saturday November 11th from 12 - 4pm. There will be rides, showbags, food vans and much more. As part of the organisation of this day we would like to ask for your support in any way that you can. Tomorrow I will be sending out a form asking you to let us know if you are able to assist with this event. There are many ways that you can help. You can offer some time on the day, you may have a business that could donate money or products for the day. Please fill in the form and return it to school as soon as possible. The more people that support this event the greater benefit it will have for the school and the students.

School uniform

A reminder that all students should be wearing the correct school uniform. This includes black shoes with the school uniform and runners are only to be worn on sport days with the sport uniform.

Hair accessories should be limited to hair ties and headbands in school colours or dark colours.

Birthday Celebrations

We all love to celebrate our birthdays and I have been very proud of the students at St. Matthew’s who are very generous on their birthdays, sharing donuts or lolly bags with their classmates. I remind you that if you are bringing something along to share with your child’s class you will need to prepare it before it comes to school. If you are bringing donuts you will need to ensure that each donut is already in a separate bag for each child. We are no longer able to do this for you due to food handling regulations. You can leave them at the office and we will ensure that your child collects them at the end of the day to distribute to their class.

2025 Year 7 enrolments in Catholic Secondary Schools

Enrolments for Year 7 2025 (current Year 5 students) close on August 18th. If you would like your child to attend a Catholic secondary school you will need to submit your application prior to this date.

Take care,

Rachael Spooner
