Investing in Wellbeing: Our Commitment to a Balanced Environment. As highlighted in my previous newsletter, we are dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing of our students, staff, and community. This commitment to creating an environment that harmonises wellbeing with learning is a defining characteristic of what makes CPS exceptional.
The Student Wellbeing and Care, Future Directions document developed by the Department aligns seamlessly with our vision. Here are the key areas of focus:
- Positive Sense of Belonging: We aim to foster a strong connection between students and the school, enhancing their personal wellbeing.
- Staff Wellbeing: Recognising the close link between staff and student wellbeing, we are committed to supporting our educators.
- Shared Responsibility: Wellbeing is a collective effort involving schools, families, and other agencies. We acknowledge that schools alone cannot meet all wellbeing needs.
For detailed guidelines, please refer to the link provided above. I encourage you to review these guidelines to understand how they align with our goals.
Kids Health Matter has a new podcast series which answers common questions parents and carers ask on health concerns such as mental health, vaping and ADHD. It features interviews from Perth Children’s Hospital, Child and Adolescent Community Health and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services staff who share their expertise and insights on child health and developmental issues and concerns. https://shows.acast.com/kids-health-matters
Thank you to the 83 respondents who participated in the CPS School Road Safety Survey. We greatly appreciate your input. We are excited to share that 19 parents have expressed interest in joining a working group dedicated to improving safety around our school. The next steps involve collaborating with the school, P & C and the Board to develop targeted guidelines that will guide the working group's efforts. We will be in contact soon with further information. We look forward to working together to enhance safety and ensure a secure environment for all.
The school and Board continue to engage with our local MLA, government Departments, and councils, regarding road safety and carpark upgrades around CPS. As community members, we encourage you to engage with your local MLA who is a great resource to fully understand their focus and support for the community.
The Board met this week to discuss a number of items.
- Board Succession Planning – engaging community with understanding the role of the board and future nominations.
- CPS Road Traffic Survey – (see above)
- Local MLA Survey request. As directed by the Education Act CPS will be unable to accommodate this request.
- Class Placement Policy and Q & A – Ratified – will be updated in the webpage.
- Health and Wellbeing – Dept Student Wellbeing and Care, Future Directions document – (see above)
Please don’t forget that Board minutes and other information is added to the Webpage.
Finally, congratulations to Angela and Sophia in Year 6, who represented Churchlands proudly at this year's Rotary Four-Way Speaking Contest! There were 11 speakers from 6 schools on the night, and the judges reported that they were the highest standard they had seen in 15 years of judging the competition, which is a massive accolade for all involved. A very special mention goes to Sophia, whose speech on gender equality was awarded second place overall—an outstanding effort! What a showcase for our talented students, and thank you to the Year 6 teachers for supporting our students in their preparation and being there on the night.
