Principal's Report

Dear Families,

We have nearly reached the halfway point of Term 4. It is an exciting and busy time at Jamberoo Public School. Students are continuing to engage in meaningful learning experiences while we are also gearing up to enjoy a range of events, fundraisers and end-of-year celebrations that bring our school community together.

I have been lucky enough (last week and this week) to have heard and will be hearing Year 3's Jamberoo Jabber speeches. I must say how impressed I am with our future public speakers!

Teachers are currently finalising student reports, reflecting on the wonderful progress made across the year. We appreciate the continued support of our families during this busy period as we celebrate achievements, showcase learning and wrap up another fantastic year at Jamberoo.

Semester 2 Reports

Semester 2 student reports will be available to families via School Bytes in Week 10. If you would like to discuss your child’s progress, please book an appointment with their teacher.

Tour De Cure

Last week we had our wear it yellow fundraiser for Tour De Cure. We donated $131 to the charity. Thank you to those families who were able to donate to cancer research. The students enjoyed seeing the riders and their chat about healthy lifestyles.

Crazy Hair Day – This FRIDAY

Get ready to show off your wildest, wackiest hairstyles! Students are encouraged to come to school with crazy hair and bring a gold coin donation to support the Year 6 formal.

There will also be jellies available for $1 each. We can’t wait to see all the colourful and creative hairstyles!

World Teachers’ Day

Thank you to all the parents who sent in kind emails, heartfelt notes, and thoughtful gifts for their child’s teacher. A special thank you to Nora for baking a beautiful cake for our staff. We are so fortunate to have such a caring and supportive school community.

Kind regards,

The Week In View

Stage 3 Canberra Excursion

Last week, our intrepid Stage 3 adventurers teamed up with Mrs Behl-Shanks, Mrs McGee and Mr Reed for their much-anticipated Canberra Excursion! Students explored the National Museum, taking part in an interactive tour focused on people who made a difference in their communities and the evolving identities of early Australians.

During the Electoral Education Centre activities, the votes were tallied and—after a tense third count—Apple claimed the majority win, much to Mrs Behl-Shanks’ disappointment! A visit to the Australian Institute of Sport was another highlight, where students were thrilled to watch the Women’s Basketball Team in training.

Of course, no camp would be complete without some fun along the way — from songs and chants filling the bus (somehow Mr Reed managed to nap through a chorus of â€ś6-7!”) to the excitement of the pool and slide at the Aquatic Centre.

A very special thank you goes to Mrs Milligan for her incredible organisation, and to Mrs De Las Heras and Mrs Loutitt for their support. What an unforgettable experience for our Stage 3 students!

Canberra Educational Tour Reflection

In Term 4, our Year 5 and 6 students had the exciting opportunity to attend an educational tour of Canberra, our national capital. During the excursion, students participated in a range of engaging and informative programs that deepened their understanding of Australia’s history, culture, heritage, and democracy.

The experience allowed students to visit significant national institutions, connect their classroom learning to real-world contexts and develop a greater appreciation for how our government and civic systems work.

Our school received funding support from the Australian Government through the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program. This rebate of $30.00 per student was provided to assist with the cost of the excursion.

It was a memorable and enriching learning experience for all involved and we are proud of the way our students represented our school throughout the tour.

Tongarra Representative Cricket

Leo and Ruben recently trialled for the Tongarra Shoalhaven representative cricket team. Although they were not selected, with only 10 students chosen from a pool of 26, they competed strongly and represented themselves and Jamberoo Public School with pride. Well done, Leo and Ruben!

Happy World Teacher's Day

Upcoming Events

Crazy Hair: Come to school with your wildest, wackiest or most creative hairstyle! Bright colors, wild accessories or gravity-defying styles are all welcome. The crazier, the better! A gold coin donation will be collected from your classrooms for crazy hair.

Jelly Fun: We’ll also be celebrating with $1 jelly cups at lunch time (after eating time). We can’t wait to see everyone getting involved.

Thanks for helping make our school such a fun place to be and raising some money for our fabulous year 6 students and their formal!

Class Spotlight

Walabi

Walabi students are continuing to practise their Jamberoo Jabber speeches. They will be presenting them next week and I am encouraging them to practise daily, particularly so that they know it well enough that  they can give their audience some eye contact and work on their manner.

Students are loving their drama lessons with Mrs Behl-Shanks. This week we were focusing on mood — how our facial expression, body language and voice can demonstrate our mood to the audience. Groups enjoyed choosing a scenario to act out for another group.

In mathematics, we have bene finishing up our 3D objects unit, with students developing their skill to sketch/draw 3D objects and define it by describing the number of faces, edges and vertices. They also practised drawing a 2D model of the top, side and front views of a 3D object. Students were also given six squares to investigate how many different nets of a cube they could find (see photo).

5 Cooinda

It’s been another busy and rewarding fortnight in Year 5! Our students were thrilled to welcome back Neak, our resident artist, and together we created some beautiful clay ornaments. Neak has kindly taken them away to dry, and soon we’ll be glazing them before they go into the kiln—exciting times ahead!

In English, we’re sharpening our reading fluency and comprehension skills through short, engaging texts that complement our current focus book, Worse Things. Preparation for our upcoming in-school public speaking event, the Jamberoo Jabber, has been in full swing, with students presenting their speeches in class on Monday, week 5.

In Maths, Year 5 are deepening their understanding of multiplicative thinking by investigating different units of measurement. This week, we tackled word problems involving the length and mass of dinosaurs—lots of fun with real-world connections!

Looking ahead, we’ll soon be starting rehearsals for the Christmas Carols, so stay tuned for updates.

Well done to all our Year 5 students for their hard work and enthusiasm!

Exploring Connections and Expression Through Poetry

In English this term, students have been deepening their understanding of how personal connections shape the way we interpret and appreciate texts. By reflecting on their own interests, experiences and perspectives, students are learning that what we bring to a text influences how we understand its ideas and emotions. This helps them engage more thoughtfully with what they read and write.

A key focus has been exploring how modality. The strength or certainty of words like mightshould, and must—can subtly change meaning and tone. Understanding these language choices allows students to interpret texts more deeply and recognise the author’s purpose and perspective.

Students have also been experimenting with multimodal features such as imagery, sound, movement, and layout, to communicate ideas effectively for a specific audience and purpose. This has been particularly meaningful as part of their poetry unit, where creativity and personal voice are encouraged.

As part of this learning sequence, students are working on three key tasks:

  • Compose a Free Verse Poem: crafting an original poem that expresses a personal idea, emotion or experience.
  • Definition Poem Reflection: analysing their chosen words and ideas and reflecting on how their experiences influenced their writing.
  • Definition Poem Presentation: performing or presenting their poem, using voice, expression, and visual or digital elements to enhance meaning.
Through these experiences, students are developing as thoughtful, expressive communicators who can interpret, create and share ideas in rich and meaningful ways.

Term 4 Library Reward – Borrow and Win!

This term, our library has a special reward program to celebrate all our enthusiastic readers! Every time a student borrows a book, they will receive a ticket. This ticket goes into our “Library Reward Jar” for a chance to win an exciting prize!

The winner will be drawn in Week 8, so the more books you borrow, the more chances you have to win!

It’s a fun way to explore new stories, discover new interests, and enjoy the magic of reading. We can’t wait to see which lucky readers will take home a special reward. Happy reading!

Don’t Forget Your Library Bag!

To help keep our library books in great condition, we ask that all students bring a library bag when borrowing books. A bag keeps books dry, clean, and protected, helping them last longer for all our readers to enjoy.

Please check that your child has a library bag each week so they can safely borrow and return books. Thank you for helping us look after our library collection!
